Mayakovsky never actually joined the communist party, Stoklari. Next to his suicide poem he left a note indicating he wished he had "fought it out" over party officials forcing him to remove banners in an affiliated theater insulting and satirizing party bureaucracy. For a fan of his, you seem to have not read "The Bathhouse".
mayakovsy was true genius, true revolutioner. his poem "LISTEN!!!!...." that is pasted here, was written when he was 20 year old. just think about it. what an understanding of world. he was the rapper, that was the first time russian poetry got right direction.
I was crying when i was in the museum of Mayakovskiy in Moscow, observing the room where he committed suicide. I dont have enough words do describe my admiration. Personality, poetry, voice, appearance I was all shaking looking at his clothes and personal things. When I read his letters to Lilya Brick i was so mad,I couldnt hold myself. he is the ONE, forever.
rubish! In his suicide note he never mentioned anything about "disapointment" and "stalinisms". Mayakovsky was a true revolutionary soul till the end, and no "softened brain, like an over-fed lackey on a greasy settee" would ever understand.. my friend!
He commit suicide because he became part of the establishment of a repressive stalinist state. He had hope the soviet union would be a more liberated society but it many respects it was quite the opposite.
When VM was touring his readings the translation on the posters 'Futurists' in the town were similar to 'footballers'. So the children actually thought footballer's were visiting their town. A lot of the published works from 1910 tro 1916 were sent to Paris for sale and were so limited.
One of the earliest banner waver's of Mayakovsky was Alexis Kruchenykh. He published his verses in 1913. Those ephemeral publications are so rare and usually the litho/print has been removed. Esp. if Olga Rossanova, Rodchenko. Excuse my poor name translation.

He was revolutionary - and he hated any type of bureaucracy. A lot of his last poems were satiric. So I can say - he was disapointed.
But I think it is only a part of suicid's reason.

Nice to hear his voice.
He looked like a cruel and brutal man, and his arrogance showed in his works. Great poet though.

They're infinitely better in Russian, in fact there is pretty much no point in reading them in English.
