I'm not a fan of these guys, but i remember them doing a show early on in their career and Don Bolles (the drummer for 45 Grave) was sound man and ... whatever, this is a well done cover of a great fucking punk rock song.
so on the floor of my room in reform school was RHCP's first album.. and we were also listening to 45 grave at the time.. most people don't realize that RHCP sprang from the california hardcore scene, this is just them paying homage to their peers. funk at the time was really unusual for an la band, hardcore like this was more common. i think it's really cool that they did this cover. dream syndicate, the germs, celebrity skin.. these bands are all connected to 45 grave.
yeah, and theres references to some of those bands in some chilis things, like for example in the californication video, the car that anthony drives the license plate says "GERMS" on it
just because you don't like it, doesnt mean it's shit, or not good. it's not my type of music, but im not letting that stop me from enjoying my favorite band.

great until the guitarist screws up the solo and doesn't even do his own totally different version. just lame. most of this rocks. thanks. and i have more respect for RHCP a bit...but replace the git!
Haha.. love it.. they did this at the City of Manchester Stadium a few years back, the week b4 the Hyde Park gig think. Unfortunatey we were in the seats, we went mental and cleared three rows of people infront!! Landed head first between the seats.. Ooops.. apologies to all that were in our way! Awesome cover!! lol
Fuckin' A! Never heard this one before. The RHCPs must have gone to and loved many a 45 Grave show. Thought they did a good version, tho i much prefer the original. Anthony ain't Dinah, and John ain't Paul Cutler. But damn they really did the song justice, which is a credit to the Red Hots. Evil lives!
i loved watching this... i used to play 45 grave songs as a teen guitar player in the early 80's... paul cutler was the reason i liked 45 grave although occasionally dinah cancer would belt out a scream that would rival yoko ono. it was all in good fun.
didn't hurt to have rob ritter on bass and don bolles on drums.
This is a really cool performance...bags of energy, bags of attitude. It's a shame the Chilis haven't had much of either on their records since the early 90's...they've continued to write good songs for the most part, but in the studio, the fire has been slowly going out. 'Don't Stop', for example, is a decent enough song, but sounds so mild, so gutless compared to, say, 'Higher Ground'. They definitely need to work harder to translate their live energy onto their records.
RHCP were good only up to 'get up and jump'///the ABORIGINAL version of this is much better and darker and abstract...and much better where it counts. THIS IS A PARODY
this is so cool. could it get much more intense? you would think the mosh pit for a song like this would make everyone go insane!!! they are all just standing there...
you are SO right....doesn't matter. with a band like RHCP, the fans are just as shallow. they'll never get IT...it's about the party...not the grave which 'skares' them!
I remember seeing them play this in Manchester and I was this grubby little kid at the front wearing a TSOL t-shirt dancing my ass off, surrounded by a bunch of really confused looking indie kids.
deathrock? .45 Grave was punk dude... the Chili's have had a firm and solid appreciation for punk and the Chili's were apart of the early 80s punk scene in LA. Hell, Flea was in Fear for a bit. You don't have to like it, I don't really care what you like, you're just looking for a reaction. Besides, you should at least appreciate that they covered it, most people, even most punk and metal bands don't know who .45 Grave is... whatever, I'm done now.
great grreat great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great
