  • this was great.

  • Did the station go off the air?

  • @Sheri451 No just changed it's format ... for the worst :). Thanks for watching !!!

  • @Johnnyboy792 Sounds like TV Land does now. All they show is a bunch of crap. I miss watching The Little Rascal's and The Addam's Family, and The Munsters. I also remember watching those Popeyes the music played. And The Three Stooges too. I loved the ones with Curly, Moe, Larry and Shemp, but I hated the ones with the man Curly Joe.We watched Bozo too. I tried to get my oldest nephew in his club to win a prize when the child did that threw the balls in the bucket.

  • @Sheri451 At the time, before the advent of cable, WPIX had their own family. Bozo, Captain Jack, Officer Joe Bolton and others, and they all looked directly into the camera as if they were talking to you personally just like WNEW ( I have a video of that too :0) ) Now it's been replaced by Jerry Springer, and Court shows. Where is a kids childhood ? Maury Povich Show is my my town, and I wouldn't see him if you payed me. A sad comment but i'm happy to keep the memories alive. Thanks again !!!

  • @Johnnyboy792 We also had our own local childrens entertainers, We had a man called Fred Kirby, he was a singing cowboy like Gene Autry, he would introduce The Little Rascal's and on another channel was a man I think he was the station's weatherman, he was Joey The Clown. Another one had a man called Sargent Mills, he showed cartoons along with a man called Mr Bill he showed cartoons. I hate Maury Povich AND Jerry Springer. I take care of a three year old and I only let her watch PBS Kids

  • This is clearly a labor of love! Thank you! It is a shame that the 'kidult' shows are gone for ever, with the exception of some 'personals' that I think Chuck has under his FACEBOOK page. If you haven't, you should try and 'friend' him-he's very approachable and he's a fan of his fan's.

  • @Maxxnme Will do Maxx, I sure will :0)

  • Wow, what a great station channel 11 used to be. I don't think anyone has turned on that station in my house in 20 years.

  • WPIX for Dore Gold sirs....

  • i remember every one of those, including the ones on the intro, except for bozo and the magic garden. (i was on the joe bolton thanksgiving special when i was in the second grade!)

  • Great video and great work saving a part of our past. Disappointed Chuck McCann wasn't included. I think of all the "kidult" shows, his were the best.

  • @lednew2010 Some things were just impossible to find. The fact that WPIX destroyed Ofiicer Joe, Bozo and Captain Jack really burns me. Thanks for looking Led ! :0)

  • What is the cartoon at the beginning?

  • @lvpdesign Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse :0)

  • @Johnnyboy792 Thank you! Loved it as a kid

  • CHILLER!!!!!! Thank you!

  • Loved it but where was the "pix...pix...pix" game played over the phone by viewers?

  • @pizzabagel44 LOL Some things were just impossible to find ! :0) But thanks so much for looking :0)

  • This is great! You saved the greatest for last! I grew up watching all these shows! Thank you for posting it!

  • @30kitcat Thank you for watching Kat !!! :0)

  • Not all of this was WPIX, but I really enjoyed the clips.

WOR9 and WNEW5 were also notable for their traditions of independence.

  • @laportama I also did one for WNEW. And I'm thinking of doing one for channel 9. Thanks for looking !!!

  • Jack McCarthy also hosted the St.Patrick's Day parade right up until he died. Which PIX also aired each year.

  • Awesome... thanks for posting this!

  • @ReyAce00 Thanks Rey !

  • This is outstanding, brings back great childhood memories

  • @jamessteimel Thanks James. Ill be redoing it later on this year. So much more I missed :0)

  • Just awesome !

  • @spe74 Thank you !!

  • Yep, all of this.

  • Great stuff! Yes, this was our life in our 12 station cable network in the 70s...Not bad at all. We have a retro station called ME TV in Rochester NY, 110. Not bad for today. Hopefully they will not ruin it like Nick, and TV land. Lots of luck seeing some of these ever coming back though. We are too damn uptight and politically correct these days. Cant even say Merry Christmas without somebody being ticked off...

  • @vintagetoyroom Thanks Vintage ! If your from the NY area, I also did one on Metro TV Channel 5 and one for daytime TV. I live for retro TV ! Thanks for looking and MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!! :o)

  • @Johnnyboy792 not sure if this link will work, but check out vintagetoyroomDOTcom..We are ALL about retro toys. I have written 4 books on them. Long live the 60s and 70s!

  • @vintagetoyroom I got it vintage. Thank sever so much. This is a great awesome site !!! Thanks you !

  • Kids these days will never know what sign-off was.

  • MR. MAGOO!!! lol. and Felix, and omg all of them.

Hey John, what were the call letters for Channel 9?

  • @Kryssaira WOR TV

  • I was ON the Howdy Doodie show...me in the peanut gallery!

  • The " Magic Garden" was one of my favorite. I would watch everyday even as a teenager

  • Johnny Boy,

Thank you for this video it really tapped in to my youth and for that I thank you sincerely. A purer time....

  • Johnnyboy i really miss wpix i grew up on this ch so much i really wann cry because its my childhood

  • @daminmancejin Ahhhh tears of joy... thats what I was going for !!! LOL Just kidding Damin. Thanks so much for looking. If you haven't seen them, check out my Saturday Morning Memories & Daytime TV memories. Time warp time :0)

  • Johnny was Twilight zone and Star Trek part of this time period??

  • @toecutter1967 I know... I know...... and the Yule Log too... man did I hear it from the peanut gallery LOL !!

  • 1972: "Write Zoom (z-double-o-m) box 3-5- oh, Boston Mass ohhh two-one-three fourrrr...Send it to Zoom!

    Today.."e-mail...... or z-mail"...(not sure)...

Definitely better back then. You had to wait for a snail mail response...builds suspense.

  • @modularhalfpipe LOL Thanks Buddy !!!

  • @modularhalfpipe ,

No that was PBS Chanel 13 WNET in New York.

  • @Johnnyboy792 There was also "Eleven....eleven alive"! Jingle where they used the WTC as an "11", "Crazy Eddie... His prices are INSANE!", and I don't know how many times they showed the "Tokyo" monster movies in the 70's...I lived in Western Mass and saw all this... Amazing coverage, and An Awesome job you're doing!

Any memories of WSBK TV 38 in Boston? It was Boston's equivalent of WPIX...

  • @modularhalfpipe Nothing from Boston Buddy, elsewise I would have added ZOOM :0) But I know the TV coverage was about the same. We were pretty lucky as kis :0) Thanks for looking !!!

  • You forgot one icon of WPIX: the Yule Log!

  • @modularhalfpipe Coming after the New Year in a remake :0)

  • Johnnyboy...Thanks for all your hard work, it obviously is appreciated by those of us who remember the good old days. The comment about smelling the Sunday gravy (and it IS gravy, not sauce) cooking while watching Abbott and Costello hit a nerve with me. Reading about all the great shows that WPIX broadcast makes me kind of disappointed with Nick and TVLand. That's what I thought that they'd be showing not Andy Griffith 20 times a day.

Anyone remember having to let the TV "warm up" ?

  • @fscap811 Not only do I remember that-but we had a "portable" Zenith and I put "portable" in quotes because it took two people to lift it up to take it anywhere!

  • @LFD254 I know what you're talking about...those sets were humongus. But on cold winter mornings, I could stand by the back of the TV set watching the glow of the tubes and keeping warm from the heat they gave off! My parents had a b&w DuMont set that lived forever...I didn't know that the "Wizard of Oz" was in color for a lot of the movie for many years.

  • @LFD254 My father was an NYPD cop and in the early 1970s he went to a place called "JGE" which was a warehouse store solely for cops and firefighters and he bought our first color TV. It was a Motorola console model and it took him and two other cops he worked with to wrestle it into the house. years after it died, we still had the console-dad took the dead TV out of it and saved the wood box for use as a quasi bookcase!

  • This past Wednesday September 7,2011 marked the 50th anniversary of the debut of"The Dick Tracy Show"on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC.

  • @4thekidsTV Thanks for the info :0). WNEW channel 5 coming up soon !

  • @4thekidsTV I loved that show... try showing that today with all this political correctness bs!

  • Awesome video compilation. I was born in '68 (so I'm not a baby boomer), but I still remember most of this stuff.

  • @EvenSteven2004 Thanks Buddy !!!

  • lets see I think my memory goes as far back as 77. I rmember most of this stuff good compliation. The best memory was the three stooges right b4 a yankee game would come on a sunday. then after the stooges this week in baseball would come on.

  • @redsuxh8r LOL You missed some good stuff before that Red !!! Thanks for looking ! My WNEW channel 5 should be coming out next week !

  • @Johnnyboy792 yeah defnietly lookin forward to that thanks!

  • MARVELOUS video. It brought back some nice memories of some happier times in my past.

  • @VegasJohn1 Thanks John. WNEW channel 5 coming soon :0)

  • Does anyone remember the commercial they use to air for the summer camp. It had a talking animated balloon in it. I remember watching WPIX ever morning before going to school and the commercial was always on. If anyone know of it let me know.

  • I was born in 1966 and i fondly remember 98% of these shows especially Magilla Gorilla, Batman & Superman. I remember doing my homework and watching Popeye on Ch. 11. It's unfortunate times have changed and the kids today are deprived of watching "kids" shows that i grew up watching like "The Magic Garden" and "The New Zoo Revue" Wow! Those were the days.

  • @kdemonde I've always told people how much better TV was when it was family friendly. 900 channels today and I still watch these shows on DVD Thanks so much for looking !!! :0)

  • Oh this was the best channel WPIX's Channell 11 new york n.y.. They had "Space:1999" i loved that station for those tv shows . i would say '75 and '76 they were fantastic. WNEW channel 5 had the original Mission:Impossible which was great and WOR channel 9 had U.F.O (a cool brittish sci-fi show filmed in '70)

  • They should go back to the same lineup instead of the junk they're now showing.

  • @RichB17 You got that right Rich ! Thanks for looking ! :)

  • SO RIGHT! And that goes for WNEW Ch 5 and WOR Ch9 too! Those three stations then gave more quality entertainemtn than the 600 or so channels we have now!

  • @LFD254 Ya got that right. I should be posting WNEW down the road soon :0) Thanks for looking !

  • @Johnnyboy792 -I grew up in south Queens NY. Our old B&W Zenith was always on 5,9 or 11. On 5 we watched Paul Winchell, Sandy Becker, Sonny Fox/Bob McAlister and of course the legendary Soupy Sales while on 9 we had Cluaude Kirschner, those stop-animation Marvel Hero series and the Million Dollar Movie. ( had the Mets, 11 had the Yankees. What more could you want or need?

  • What a bunch of GREAT STUFF! I could watch those programs for ions!!

  • @sparkle11231 Thanks Sparkle ! We all could :0)

  • If anyone can tell me the name of the cartoon shown at the very beginning of this clip I would appreciate it. The one with the two cats in the car coming out of the cave. Thanks.

  • @GrandmaLoves2Scuba Thats Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse Grandma :0) I hope you enjoyed it ! Thanks for looking !

  • This is priceless. thanks so much for posting . Those were the days . All my favorites.

  • @alanwilkov Thanks so much Alan ! With 900 cable channels on today, it was better when we had 7 channels :)

  • WOW did you hit a remember when nerve!!!!

  • @billiebudapest Thanks Billy Boy !! It was a great time :0)

  • Dear Fright Night, "Dick Tracy","Gigantor"first appeared on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC back in the early to mid 1960's."Mr.Magoo"was first seen on WNEW TV Ch.5 in NYC in the early 1960's and later on WPIX TV Ch.11 in 1970's.

  • Thanks for posting the Golden age of television. It's a shame they don't make great shows like those anymore. At least we have our memories

  • A lot of memories there.

  • Until I was 8or 9 I thought Channel 6 from Schenectady was the only TV station ...

Imagine the surprise when I moved downstate with a relative and discovered that almost every channel had a station on it. I was zoomed in1956 discovering this. Ch. 11 is represented here real well. I kinda liked Ch.5 too with Soupy Sales & some of their other strange programming (Metromedia). Thanks for this. Very kewl montage.

  • Thanks Mike ! As a matter of fact, i'm working on a video for channel 5 now that should be out sometime late next month. Tanks so much for looking ! :0)

  • Since I was born in 1955, that was my favorite TV station growing up. Thanks for all the wonderful memories!

Oh... where was "Romper Room"? Or was that on Channel 9???

  • @SteveBrant55 You're right Steve... it was channel 9. And they were awesome memories for me too. Thanks for looking !!!

  • Awesome,

  • @ShipAhoyCP Thanks Buddy. It was my pleasure !!!

  • Boy did this bring childhood memories...Thanks so much!!! I LOVED IT SO!!

  • @Evelyn6989 Thanks so much Evelyn !!!

  • Thanks for posting this. it made my day

  • @dboxer12 Thanks Boxer. You might like my Saturday Morning TV Memories 1964-1975 too. It'll really take you back :0) Thanks for looking !!!

  • this is a very special montage you made!

  • @NYer79 Thanks Pal. It was special for me too :0)

  • oh my god man...you just brought me back to my childhood and teenage years in the late 60s to the late 70s---thank you thank you thank YOU, love this !!

  • No Star Trek or Twilight Zone?????

  • Looks like I better do a new one huh Joey ? :0)

  • The only thing missing was Twilight Zone! Those were the days- a whole generation will never know the fun we had on Channel 11. On the other hand, about 95 percent of these shows are now on DVD!

  • LOL Been chastised for it :0) Also The Yule Log. I'll be doind a revised edition down the road :)

  • @Avatar610 That and Star Trek... How can you do The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners without including Star Trek. That was the late night line-up for damn near 20 years.

  • Curly Hoard invented breakdancing!

  • These shows were in COLOR? I didn't see color until my house until the Smothers Brothers!

  • LOL... Hey Shar-Bear... ya never know what you find on Youtube :0) Thanks for looking

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks Maverick ! It was a great time !!!

  • @Johnnyboy792 You're welcome.

  • The only this they missed here was the annual Yule Log...

  • @srusso61287 It'll be in the revised edition :0)

  • What a trip down memory lane! I remember every one of those shows, even Bozo...used to watch it when I came home from kindergarten around noon or so (1967). Also watched Joya Fun School and The Galloping Gourmet (loved its jazzy theme music). Although I better remember Addams Family as a Ch. 5 show and Dick Tracy & Mr. Magoo as Channel 9 shows. Local TV ruled back in the late 60s thru the '80s! Now...CW11, Fox5, My9...corporate tv just sucks :-(

  • thanks !

  • This may have been mentioned already, but on Fridays in the 70s there was a show with Joya Sherrill called "Joya's Fun School". Great video. Thanks for sharing!

  • @nyyhec Sure was.... and man did I try looking for that one too :0). Thanks for looking NY !

  • I miss you WPIX 11, Makes me wanna cry. Why CW why. You suck!

At least as the WB, you had enjoyable programming.

  • LOL.... well we have our memories Jilly.... and Antenna TV now. Thanks for looking !

  • @jlly16 WPIX still does have the Honeymooners at 1am on Sunday nights/early Monday. Their digital subchannel, Antenna TV, has some good classics.

  • @johnissoevil I've seen just about every episode more times than the law should allow. LOL

I miss the 8'oclock movies, the entertaining sitcoms. :) Oh well, thank goodness for Cable and Satellite . Now I can watch those same movies I used to enjoy and old sitcoms and so much more.

  • @jlly16 Yep, and just about every show that had been rerun on 5, 9, and 11 over the years are available in seasons on DVD. I have the entire Odd Couple series. :-)

  • @johnissoevil From the late 70's until the early 90's, New York had the best late night hour of TV, before hitting the sack. The Odd Couple followed by the Honeymooners. I thought it would last forever. Thank God for DVD's !!!

  • @Johnnyboy792 There's a few syndicated shows I do like on WPIX now, outside of the Honeymooners. Family Guy, one of the best animated shows out there. And they've snatched Seinfeld back from Fox 5. I have both 9 and 11 on Dish in the Superstations package, always good to watch to see what's going on back home in Jersey on the news. :-)

  • @jlly16 It ain't what it use to be Jilly. Thank God for memories.... and DVD's :0)

  • Wasn't Ultraman and Speed Racer part of the lineup as well?

  • @VizD1 Sure was. Will be added down the road in my remake :0) Thanks for looking !!

  • @Johnnyboy792 Gigantor came on with Speed Racer...and don't forget F-Troop. I remember coming home from school and watching Captain Jack and Office Joe. A few years later Star Trek and the Honeymooners. WPIX had some great shows. Some of the shows that originally aired on other stations eventually ended up on WPIX when they went into syndication. Not sure if Gilligan's Island, Get Smart, or The Invaders were on WPIX too?

  • Not sure about the Invaders, but Gilligan & Get Smart were all over the map. Gilligan was on 3 fifferent stations. Thanks for checking it out Orion !!!

  • I believe it was Chiller Theater were I saw "Night of the living dead" for the first time back '74 or '75. I was in my early teens. I watched it across the street at a friends while my mom & brother watched it at home. When it was over I stood on his porch and shouted to my mom that I was too scared to cross the street so i was spending the night. She readily agreed.

Great video. Wish they still showed the little rascals down here in the raleigh area.

  • @udi2day That's interesting. My dad told me when he first saw "Night of the Living Dead" on either WPIX 11 or WWOR-9 back in the early 70's, at a friend's house; after he left his friend's house everyone on Flatbush Ave looked like zombies, he said..lol

I grew up on WPIX in the early 90's, and boy did they have some spooky movies on around Halloween time.

  • Thanks Cool ! At a time when there was only 13 channels, there was always something to watch. Now with 300 stations, it's hard to something good. Sounds crazy, but true. Ask your Dad about the Creature Features on Channel 5, on Saturday nights too. Thanks for looking !

  • Superb. TV in all its innocence and story-telling ability. Say what we will about today's digital age and special effects, but for us baby boomers the 'oldies were the goodies.' It's great to share some of these classics. Much thanks!

  • Awesome video! Brought back lots of memories for me. I also remember Cell Block H. I can remember watching Vincent Price movies after school as well. I grew up in the seventies but watched a lot of WPIX, even when I got older. My friends and I used to hang out till about 11, then catch the Honeymooners and after that we'd run to White Castle for a hundred or so belly bombers. What great times and great memories! Thanks for posting.

  • @timmysull Hey thanks Timmy. I'll be redoing it down the road because there was so many shows I left out. Thanks for looking :0)

  • great vid!!! i remember all those very well. i think you should do a part 2 and include every kids x-mas eve nightmare, the yule log. does anyone remember a show from wpix called prisoner cell block h??it aired weeknights at 11pm in the late 70's . i remember the late night lineup like it was yesterday, prisoner, odd couple, honeymooners, and twilight zone. ahh, summers staying up late when there was no school. i got so pissed when the yankees went into x-innings and the shows were nixed

  • @maddmaxx426 Thank you Max !!! I fully intend to redo it.... and wasn't the Yule Log the Christmas Suck all ? Ant that late night lineup of the Odd Couple & The Honeymooners was the best !!! Thanks for looking !!!

  • "The Supercar"TV puppet adventures films are now available on DVD..I don't know which video co. has rereleased the shows onto dvd for the home video market?

    But.."Supercar"is available on dvd.

  • @TheStanbabe Cool Stan. Thanks so much for looking :0)

  • Dear Murf,Sadly..Mr.Ray Heatherton AKA"The Merry Mailman" and "Capt.Ray" the weekend sea capt. host/performer of WPIX TV's"Popeye Show"passed away on August 15,1997.

  • sweet memories, the only thing missing is the general manager asking"whats your opinion,we'd like to know."

  • @cpinilla2 LOL.... Richard Hughes... I intend to add him when I do my revsion down the road. Thanks for looking :0)

  • they should add links to the song to purchase and stop blocking songs that are already on itunes I had to pull three videos

  • @dj7661 I see LOL. Either way I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for looking !

  • @Johnnyboy792 how did you get around it so you could use film cuts classic and they did not block it which option did you use to complete this video

  • @Johnnyboy792 @Johnnyboy792 how did you get around it so you could use film cuts classic and they did not block it which option did you use to complete this video

  • @dj7661 There wasn't really a problem with the videos at all. It's only a current movie they care about or something recent. It's the music that may create a problem. I worked around it though. One time I put a Disney Video on and the artist complained. I reposted it, and mentioned his name, giving him full credit, and he left it alone after that :0)...... a got a plug and made him happy ! Most of the footage comes from old video tapes I've kept over the years.... im a real hoarder. Thanks !

  • I did a remix of change clothes jay z, a shirley caesar song they blocked the audio how can I get around it you are publishing film with no issues what is the workaround

  • AWESOME HOW DID YOU CLEAR THE FILM THEY ARE BLOCKING SONGS

  • @dj7661 How do you mean bro ? Who's blocking the songs ?

  • Great video! Do you have the entire clip of the Chiller opening with the six fingered hand?

    Thanks.

  • Semper Fi !!! And thank you !

  • Thank you.

  • Semper Fi ... and Thank you !!!

  • Awesome video, it really brought back some wonderful memories. WOuld love to see a few more included, particularly Star Trek, Twilight Zone and Barney Miller. Ever think about doing a WPIX Christmas video as well?? Thank you for the memories.

  • @rmcnyc With all the request i'll have to....BTW.. you left out Speed Racer, Gigantor Jeannie and so on :0).... i've been getting it from all sides. Dont know if you saw it but I just completed a SATURDAY MORNING MEMORIES VIDEO & I should be posting a DAYTIME TV VIDEO 1965-1975 in a week or two. Thanks for looking. - Johnny

  • This video bring back some great memories of my childhood coming home after school and turning on the boob tube. I hope you update it with the missing shows, Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jennie, STAR TREK, The Nanny and the Professor, Don't Pick the Daises, Tom & Jerry and Underdog

    Thanks for the memories

  • @jarniotes LOL It's coming down the road... that's a promise ! Thanks for looking !!!

  • MAGILLA GORILLA!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!

  • @betteboop57 I knew you'd like it Betty :0)

  • The best part of the Yankee games was if they ended early they would fill the time with an Abbott and Costello short.

  • Never though 45 years ago when I saw bozo he would still be around as Sarah Palin leading the tea Party.

  • That was great -- now how about the OTHER great channel for boomer kids: WNEW Channel 5 - Sandy Becker, Wonderama, and so much more (including my favorite: Astro Boy!!)

Oh and one more WPIX Classic: THE YULE LOG!! Thanks so much!

  • @TheChoralChick Working on in a few Chickie.... right now, i'm working on Daytime TV Memories 1967-1975. Stay tuned :0)

  • Great memorys.. now that was TV.... reminds me of WSNL TV67 in ISLIP. same stuff.... I sure do miss WSNL...

  • FANTASTIC! Would've been perfect if this had Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jennie, STAR TREK, The Nanny and the Professor, Don't Pick the Daises, Tom & Jerry and Underdog. But this had the Rizzuto call on the Chris Chamblis HR series clincher in the '76 ALCS!!! Tremendous! Have not heard that call in over 30 years! F-Troop! My God I loved ch 11. Now I'm gonna watch all these shows tonight on youtube...

  • @GeMoneyLuv Thanks Buddy ! There's been so many shows that people reminded me of, I think i'll have to redo it in the future . Thanks for looking !

  • HOLY MACKEREL!!! I've been harassing the wrong person! I confused you with the guy who posted the lost pictures of the NY blizzard! Sorry! I'm just getting over a serious flu. That's my excuse. Keep a'rockin'!

  • @PhilTravisano Whoa that was close...... I was almost at war with a Pisan :0)... just kidding. Thanks Phil !
