Polaris sucks compared to Can Am, Polaris would break in a split second if you ride it even close to hard and the exhaust note sucks compared to a Can Am
Dirt Trax does alot of tests on utility atvs yet i never see reviews when they actually pull something with the bike. I would like to see how the bike handles when you are pulling a heavy load, how the brakes handle it and how much the bike will pull.
Polaris has came a long way over the years. People are still thinking of the old Polaris' models that tore up a lot. They're a lot tougher now than they were years ago. Performance wise they can't be beat. Specifications speak louder than ego.
to bad any polaris will break if you ride them even relatively close to hard, buy a honda or a yamaha and you will be much more happy with you bike when your not bringing it in to change something that broke every other week
i have 350 miles on my 2011 850xp and it has oil geting in the air intake and i guss this has happened to alot of people with them between the 2009 and 2011 850xp i love mine but i was wondering if that happend to u guys when u had it and u where riding it
When you do wheelies, is it in low or High? I can get it up in low but if i go in high i have to "stand" on the Seat... So can someone teach me how u do it? :p
@dirttraxtv well the 850xp eps i rode sure wasnt variable and had terrible feedback at higher speeds, the power they put into it is excessive and takes away far too much trail feedback
In you "cons" at the end you have "sideways engine robs power" listed. I thought that since the crank was now facing the same direction as the driveshaft that the sideways engine actually allowed for better efficiency than the old sportsman. Is this incorrect?
Love 'em both. Whichever you choose, you'll have a great ATV in your garage. Base part or your decision on which dealer will offer the best service. A solid relationship with your dealer could make or break the way you feel about your ride.
@dirttraxtv between the 850xp and the renegade 800xxc which one do you like better and worse for what reasons. For fast trail riding in central texas with rock crawling and the occasional mud which would you prefer and why?
Thought about buying either this or a new 800 Outlander...Just not too confident in their reliability and track record,,,Already recalls and front end problems..Have also read of owners having lots of CVT belt trouble.
@TheClaytonBaldwin Thats on the new 850xp...I think they had a recall to start and then there was some bearing joint problems on the front..Also the back and think they had cvt complaints..They may be worked out now though on the newest models..Both units are said to really burn your right leg up..I know can am slightly changed their single spar frame for 2011 making it a bit stronger..There were complaints for years it would twist...
@donny I want something comfortable, reliable, and powerful, but nobody has all 3. At my local canam shop I see a half dozen outlanders with the motors out every time I'm there. Polaris isn't much better tho, and Grizzlys dont quite have enough jam. I had a brute force but wasnt impressed with the reliability and was hard as hell to steer with a load. I should just buy a Foreman and be happy in the back. Slow and steady right?
@TheClaytonBaldwin I would say the Sportsman is the closest to what you want..Especially the comfort part..They ride better than anything..Including the Outlander..I had a Rincon for a couple of years and it was the most comfortable till the 850xp came along..I sold it...I had heard bad things about the Outlanders but never about the motors..I thought the Rotax was supposed to be really reliable and durable..

the power steering on the sportsman isn't progressive!

Its actually called Variable Assist, which delivers more assistance at lower speeds and less at higher speeds.

@donnyaldridge the 800 rotax is currently the most powerful atv engine you can get, it has 71hp and the sp850xp has 70.
