It was mostly the same motor taken from the RZ350 Streed bike sold in the USA in 1984 and 1985), which was an evolution from the RD350 / RD400 street bike available from 1972 through 82, before becoming liquid cooled and being named the RZ in 1983 in Japan.
Never was this twin 350 motor in a production Yamaha dirt bike.
wll, a banshee motor used to be a dirtbike motor, they just put it on a fourwheeler frame for the 85 baja trial race. just thought id add that in there. but a banshee fourwheeler is quick, it couldnt be beat when it was on a dirtbike frame...
u also got to think of the weight difference banshees are fast ass bikes my dad has one its beast they weigh alot more that a dirtbike if u added the weight to the cr 250 the banshee would win anyday

@drewx420 Please reply for i hear this all the time i used to and still downhill and free ride mountain biking way harder than dirt biking yet am bored of biking quads are extremely fun and for general riding easy but jumping is harder dirt bikes are better for a mx track and would be what i would choose over a quad but on trails your wrong i believe with a nice banshee you would change your mind there amazingly fun not meant for tracks really but its not bad ass just to ride a dirtbike its easy
@YB49887 That's a 2002 or newer CR250R which is the new style case reed motor with an electronic power valve. The older "mechanical" powervalve motors (2001 or older actually made better bottom end power but weren't putting out the midrange and top end ponies of the new generation Case Reed E-Power Valve engines. The new CR's are a bit more finicky to ride, but when ridden correctly make some serious HP.
Ok listin I have a cr250r with everthing u can imigin dun ta it cooled head fmf fatty pipe upgraded carb and jeted plum out and I also have a 350 banshee and the bashed has a ton of upgrads also so and it stillant got shitt on my cr Honda is beastt! Ride one ul c lol

@YoungerPrice But a CR250 dirt bike puts out more horsepower. It's a full on race motor like the Banshee should be but it is tamed down really bad from the factory. The CR250 has much better port layout and what not where the Banshee is pretty choked up in the cylinders and exhaust. But a nice port job and a set of pipes on the Banshee and it will give that CR a run for its money.
i ran my 88 cr250 against a banshee that had about 2500 into the motor to the 2 in 1 reed cage to nos etc.he didnt spray.now my cr250 has fmf pipe,wiseco piston,twin air filter and hot rods crank assembly not bored out or anything like that even had stock reeds when i raced him i pulled him threw alll the gears.we raced about 200 yards i won by 1/2 of a car length.the closest race i had was with a LT500 nothing else has touched my cr.nd i draged alot of bikes alot of 4 strokes too.
