  • Aragall's voice is so focused and beautiful with squillo by the bucket load .

  • Preciosa interpretación y excelente voz, me gustó

  • Pavarotti's voice was more powerful, but Aragall was so refined !

  • Aragall has the voice of an angel. Magnificent, with a tragic quality which is emotionally moving beyond belief. He is perfection in Puccini as well as in the French repertoire.

  • pavarotti is better by a mile. pav is the greatest tenor ever with much more thrilling notes than aragall and domingo together.

  • @ThePavafan I think it, too. It seems that technique of Pav was much better than the Aragall one. Pavarotti could sing longer phrases than Aragall, and he could hold high notes longer than Aragall, and he could sing easier than Aragall. It is possible that the voice of Aragall was bigger and ringer than Pavarotti's voice, but that is not the most important quality in opera singers. I think that verismo and Puccini was not well suited for Aragall,He sang very well French repertory and bel canto.

  • @CotaDangelo Pavarotti had a medium voice but bigger than Argall. He had one of the loudest voices ever because of his perfect technique. In fact on the rang list Pavarotti despite of his medium voice is on the 2nd place together with Tucker, who had a huge voice. Birgit Nilsson and Ghena Dimitrova are on the fifth place. Pavarotti was louder than these GIGANTIC voices because of his perfect technique. In 1985 in Tosca he drowned Dimitrova in every note they sung together.

  • The loudest singer ever is the tenor Carl Haus.

  • pavarotti is better by a mile

  • MUY BIEN HERMOSO BUENA INTERPRETACIÓN,, BELLA VOZ.¡ BRAVO JAUME ARAGALL!

  • Una altra volta: semplicemente perfetto in voce e dizione. Il tenore lirico migliore dopo Caruso e Di Stefano. Un catalizzatore per il mondo della lirica

  • The ultimate tenor, we will never hear such beauty again.

  • I heard him live many times in Puerto Rico. He was good. He sang in Lucia with Sutherland and it was great. But we never considered him great. I don't know why.

  • The Maestro himself says Aragall was the best in the video about himself called "The Last Tenor" Rest in peace Luciano!

  • anyone with a sensitive ear can hear that he is pushing in this aria. he could be having an off night but aragalls technique wasn't ever rock solid even though his voice was gorgeous. his career was shortened because of his technical failures unfortunately.

  • I heard Jaime Aragall live in "Tosca" in the late 80s in Sofia (Bulgaria). He sang an encore on "E lucevan le stelle " and received a standing ovation.

  • I have a documentary of Pavarotti in which he claims Aragall to be the best tenor of yheir generation. I've yet to understand why but it's possible his voice just didn't record well to my ears.

  • if you have ever heard him sing live, you would know this man is the greatest tenor in the world, pure class.

  • I heard him live in 84 in Tosca. Also heard Domingo, Pav and Carrerras, Aragall had the most glorious voice with the most thrillinh high notes of them all.

  • The problem with Aragall was that he had very good performances but also bad ones,I used to work with him in Chigago, but what a beautiful and great person he is, a real Catalan, thnx for posting!!

  • @tagliavini pav had the best high notes

  • He is great. But the finest tenor of the 20th century? It seems an exaggeration to me. And ALL the other tenors of his time has spoken of their envy of his time? Maybe you're right, but are you really sure?

  • The finest tenor of the 20th century. All tenors of his era agreed and openly spoke of their envy of his voice. Perhaps it was a good thing he didn't record as often as the others or turned down Opera houses, as how many tenors of his unparalled talent retired with a voice intact.

  • i myelf think i am like him jaime aragall have good voice but also stage freight well if there is anyone out there how can i combat stage freight would be hepful

  • It is spelled fright.

  • don't pay any attention to that mean person

the more you sing, the better it will get

  • the most beautiful tenor voice I have ever heard. we see not always the best get famous!

  • He was pretty well known, but I think he suffered from stage fright. He's one of my favorites too!

  • Thank you for your info. In the meantime I have learnt that he was a sick man for years! Still for me he has the most beautiful tenor voice I have ever heard. I am opera singer too.

  • Hesuffered from the most terrible stage fright and so turned down many opera and recording companies. The opersa he did agree to sing are the finest you will ever hear.

  • I remember seeing him in San Francisco and Barcelona several times. One day he was brilliant, the next day he was terrible in the same role...you never knew what to expect. He's a very friendly man though..

He had the same teacher Jose Carreras had,Maestro Puig.

  • absoluta belleza vocal!!!!

  • I'm a little underwhelmed. Most of what I've heard of Aragall is better than this. Was this toward the end of his career?

  • here he look tired a little bit the recording of Verona's where he sung the role on the side of Eva Marton was simply a miracle of nature he can be regarded the best Cavarradosi of last years

  • The thing with Mr Aragall is,one moment he could be extremely good and the next,he could ruin it all and lose his direction completely.

We sang in the same theaters for a while,I remember him as a adorable and warm person. Most of all a proud catalan!Visca !

  • The first time I heard Aragall singing (1992 Barcelona Olympic Games) I was a kid and did not appreciate opera. As I became enthusiastic, I asked my dad to buy some CDs of opera singers. For some reason, he gave me one from Aragall which I loved. On the documentary about Pavarotti's career (Last Tenor), Pavarotti said Aragall won a competition in 63 and was the best compared to himself and Placido.

  • That's called false modesty.....as history will note....Aragall who?

    lol

  • radiologist301

    "That's called false modesty"

No it is not! Aragall has always been praised by fellow tenors and opera singers. The fact that he is as popular as Pavarotti or Domingo has nothing to do with his singing, but with his media shyness and stage nervousness.

Just listen to his 1976 recording of italian opera arias and you'll see there is nothig FALSE about the great maestro's comments.

He sang Rodolfo at La Scala when he was only 24!

    A great tenor indeed!

    Viva Jaime!!

  • Great voice but a very poor technique!!

  • He was quite unsure about it sometimes,he had the same teacher as Jose Carreras, maestro Puig.

  • Corellilover-can you sing any better?

  • that´s not the point,i´m sorry but that´s a very stupid way of thinking,i can criticize any singer in the same way a criticize a movie and i don´t need to be a film expert to do it.

  • That is precisely the point! Your analogy to criticizing a movie exhibits only your ignorance when it comes to judging opera singing. Please refrain from criticizing great artists with your limited scope of understanding!

  • I am sorry for you that you can not use proper capitalization and punctuation when you attempt to write! But that is only paralleled by you stupidity!

  • now you have cross the line you fucking jerk!!

  • Poor baby!!! The truth hurts, doesn't it!!

  • jaja,take a few spanish lessons!!

  • I can tell that you are a low-life from the vocabulary that you use even in your native tongue! You are lost! Why don't you go play with you mother? Maybe it is not to late for you to learn not to use such offensive language!!

  • Sorry, I can´t waste my time with you any longer, be happy

  • jaime is the best, even pavarotti said so,if you have ever heard this man sing live, you would know he is magnificent.he`s also a great man,we have spoken with him after and before operas,he is the best of the best.

Hopy my spanish is not too bad. Know Jaime very well, and it´s really true, also his family is very lovely and humble. Have met him and his family very often, they are all great - and so is he!

  • giacomo aragall is the worlds greatest singer, some of his latest work which i have purchased from barcelona are superb,he is still the greatest singer around and he is a really nice guy.

  • Can only agree! I know Jaime very well, also his family, his wife Luisa, his three sons, have met him very often . Was invited to dinner after a evening of songs, together with his family, relatives, and friends. He has always been a very modest person. He always salutes me with a warm embrace and kisses when we meet again, he´s never been the typical kind of star like others.....He is very modest and always cares for his friends.

  • Well... I saw him four times and he didn´t sing well in those four performances. Too tight and and rushing the tempi´s. Beautiful voice though.

  • rubbish

  • The truth is the truth...

  • you dont know what you are talking about he got a wonderful voice the best

  • Oh... because I have to write exactly what you want to read... yeah right. That´s what we all heard in those performances and there´s nothing you can do about it. He had a beautiful voice and a great singer but sorry... I don´t think he was the best. PERIOD!

  • there is no BEST singer to even begin with. Every singer has it's uniqueness, and weaknesses. Every singer had at least one bad night when they can't sing properly. And, all of us have our own preference when it comes to singer. There is no absolute criterias of BEST singer. Just try to appreciate singers the way they are.

  • elcid22 you are la grande merde poor you because you don't see true art when it's in front of you. You prefer to be coarse and insulting. So here is some back to you..imbecile!

  • I really don t juge Aragall ! I just love him. I just said what made his carrier a bit more difficult. But I love him in his late as well. Always touching and something beautiful with him.

  • i don't care about Aragall's depressions, that proves he is a human being, and he had sowed us that in the satge.Callas lacked only 10 years, and she had as well psychological problems, and who cares? it will be always Callas, their voices are a gift to us, there's no judgement!!

  • Aragall had 2 problems. He was regularely depressed with repercussion on his work. But also he sang some heavy repertoire witch damaged a bit his voice. The best of Aragall is from the middle of the 60 to the begining of the 70. You must listen to his live recordings : la favorita, lucia, l amico fritz...Especially Bellini and Donizetti was perfect for him.

  • Aragall was just the best tenor of the period.Overlooked,so the "experts" say, because of the P.R. job that boosted the 'three' other career building tenors of the time.

  • I disagree a bit Vickersman, Aragall had a huge problem controlling his nerves, Corelli-like nerves. He would never have had the nerves to actually be one of the top 3 even though he deserved to be one of the top 3. That said, between Carreras and Aragall, it is difficult to pick, since both of them have a lot of passion in their singing.

  • Onegin65, thank you for posting. Aragall is my first ever Cavaradossi and i went to see his performance in January 1992 in Hong Kong. He was fantastic!

  • El més gran! The greatest! El millor! A real proof of what intelligence on a highly gifted beautiful great voice can do!

  • Great!
