Wateralchemist94, your Swedish is excellent, kiitos. I just want to say that Swedish (and for that matter Norwegian) is made for singing. The old Viking chieftains paid plenty of good gold to wordsmiths and those who could rhyme and sing, and that's something that´s still felt today. Like the Yanks say, we speak/sing a "soft sort of German", in a dialect pleasing to all.
Wateralchemist: Your Swedish is really good, kiitos. To all English and German speaking people, yes, Swedish (and Norwegian for that matter) is made for singing. The old Viking chieftains gave plenty of gold to those who could use the language rythmically, and the idea has lived on.
@Erikulfsson Thank you so much! I know I can speak a little Swedish, but I still need to improve my grammar and diction :) That's why I'm thinking now that I want to go to study to Sweden after a year and a half and learn the language properly. (I've lived in Sweden a year when I was like 4 years old or something, and now I want to get back, because it feels like a second home country to me, in fact!)
Fantastic! I'm also wondering about the translation. Abba has recorded hit songs in more languages than I speak (3), but I don't speak Sweedish. Even in a language I don't speak or understand, the music is beautiful and poetic. The lines are fluent and rhytmic and they rhyme. I've heard translations of songs that don't exactly match up. That is to be expected considering grammar and regional expressions. Just as wonderful in Sweedish as in English, although I don't speak Sweedish.
I'm from Australia and visiting Sweden (staying in Stockholm) for two weeks from December 26th. This is a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to visit Sweden, even if it is the middle of winter!
I am Portuguese-Swedish, i was born and lived in stockholm until i was 4, but all my family from my fathers side is finnish! I don't speak swedish at home because i live in portugal with my mom, my father is in sweden so im able to practice since i travel to sweden twice a year. I still remember a lot of swedish i understand almost everything but i can't speak that good i don't have so good accent, so im trying to re-learn my accent by singing these songs by ABBA!
@radikborov When i was like 7 yeah i could understand a bit my grandma used to speak finnish with me... Now I only can say the basic things like Hi, where are you, how are you, thank you, etc. Yep and guess what, my stepmother is russian LOL So yeah I have an half brother and an haf sister who are half finnish (swedish by nationality) half russian! LOL
@radikborov I've got Portuguese and Finnish blood, all my family from my mothers side is Portuguese and all my family from my fathers side is Finnish (emigrated to Sweden in the 50's if I'm not mistaken), I've got two full brothers all younger than me and then my parents divorced and my father is married to my stepmother who's russian, I've got 2 more siblings from that marriage... Finnish-Russian kids lol Yes, I visit my father twice a year, summer and winter holidays... Do you speak german?
@radikborov im 50% finnish 50% portuguese... My father being finnish (swedish by nationality he was born in Sweden like me) and my mother Portuguese. I've got 2 full brothers, then my father remarried with my stepmother who is russian and I've got 2 more half siblings who are half Finnish half Russian so I got to know a bit of russian culture and way of living... They live in Stockholm. Nice!! And do you speak german?
@bkt25 Schön! Na ja, ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen, weil ich es wie Fach habe.
It's my second foreign language after English and it's good to speak German in western Bohemia, because our nearest 'Bundesland' is Bavaria in Germany and we visit them and they visit us. And as far as Russian is concerned I can understand that something due to its Slavic origin. My native Czech is Slavic, too. But you know that.
@radikborov Ich kann noch auch ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen. Ich studiere im Fakultät. Privet! Kak dela? Yeah Is Czech much different from Russian or both have close grammar, etc? I don't understand russian nor Czech, unfortunately!
@bkt25 Well, Czech and Russian have the same origin so if you're Czech or Russian you recognise each other. Some words are very similiar such 'apple-CZ 'jablko' and RU 'jabloko' or 'river' CZ 'řeka' RU 'rjeka'. But many others are different. Russian uses 'azbuka' but it's simple. Grammar is also very close but you'd find exceptions. I mean a Czech and a Russian would understand each other if they wanted. Our parents and grandparents still remember many things, it was their obligatory subject.
(by the way I can speak english but I am to lazy to do it.... :D
Good classic to hear on Youtube!. Danish Born, lived in the UK for about 20 years now, and also go to Flemish-Belgium (Flanders/Vlaams) since I've been 14, and picked up Dutch/Flemish really well. I would say that Dutch is a bit similar to Swedish, but Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are all very similar Scandinavian languages and people from each of the countries can understand each other.. Like Dutch and Afrikaans! lol
Nooo probleeem!!! Everyone can speak their own language around here! But u have to understand that I talk only finnish, english and little swedish, japanese, german, spanish! Got it? ^__^
