For those of you who don't know. This came out before the anime. When the movie came out, it did not get a lot of positive reviews since it left out all the other girls from the game. They decided to make an anime so all the other girls like Fuko, Kyou and Ryou, Tomoyo, and Mei could all have their own story arcs so it could feel more complete, in my personal opinion, Clannad is too long for a movie, so I prefer the game, and anime.
Well,sorry to say this but the movie clannad is absolutely different from the series,did they just changed the artist or they made this before the series were born?
@LightningStormz401 The series and movie are based on a visual novel from Japan. The movie was produced by Toei Animation before the series was produced. After the movie, the series came out, and was produced by Kyoto Animation, same people who did K-On!
Also, am I the only one that noticed how INSANELY annoying they made Nagisa in the movie? I loved her in the series, but in the movie she practically stalks Tomoya.

i finished clanned and clanned after story, but then when i started the movie i noticed that they totally failed animating the hair,eyes, and even one part the train was totally not animated well.... =/
and i was like screw this...
if your watching clanned, watch clanned and clanned after story, then maybe the movie, because the movie might ruin your view of clanned

If you saw it after the series you'll realise what a disaster it is. My advice: Keep away from the movie and enjoy the series.

I'm in love with the anime. I love the story. I love how it sucks you in deeper. But this movie...I never finished it because I wasn't able to stand how wrong this movie was. I love Clannad...but not the movie...
Omg I love the seasons and everything ... I could barely tare my eye away from it... It made me laugh and cry and everything... So great. I know icould watch again and again and still laugh and cry.. I love clannad ... I give it 5 stars!! Would love to see more of the story :-)
the onley part of the movie i truly loved was how it showed what his life was like for the 5 years after negisa's death...the anime kinda skipped 5 years in 1 ep XD still...anime rocks...movie..not so much

@alexisandme4eva one of the major reasons i dont like the movie is because its told as a flashback story, and the story sometimes has interruptions in which u see wuts happening present day, which by itself spoils the story, so ur watching the whole thing, waiting for the flashbacks to catch up, even though u already know wuts going to happen, other than that, it emphasizes more on season1 and briefly raps up season2, which in my opinion is a terrible thing to do since s2 has such a big impact

also, nagisa's voice is different, which throws off the whole feel for it

in the end, if u dont watch it, u wont be missing anything, so i wudnt really reccomend it

Although the movie was COMPLETELY different than the series, I still enjoyed it, despite the biggest flaw, having Clannad in the first hour then pretty much doing After story (with the wrong ending) in 15 minutes, was still worth the buy though.
they are more cute in the series than in the movie,..but the movie is kinda nice also, because there are lots of nice scenes too...... especially the play of Nagisa....though i don't like much the ending here... at least the true ending is in clannad after story... ^_^
Please don't hate the movie. Yes it did have many flaws but many are so fond of the series and characters that watching the movie and what was left out of it made a harsh affect on most. It left out all the great life lesson parts and it hurt the meaning of Clannad, but dont hate the movie. All of you know how Clannad is and the movie can't explain all of the crucial facts it should have been explained. The series was much much longer and movie can't explain everything with its time length.

Agreed... in the series, Tomoya helped all his friends and gave them a reason to love/care about him. HE was the "good guy". In the movie, he is depicted as miserable wreck, who really only helps one person in the entire film. (Nagisa) What makes it even more depressing, is that despite the fact that he helps Nagisa, Nagisa in turn helps him out twice as much.
Tomoya is a strong person, yet for some reason, he was depicted as weak ;/

@MMAkrazy That movie is bad, and it's not made by Kyoto Animation. But to be fair, it is impossible for anyone to compress the whole epic story into 2 hours plus some more minutes. Just impossible. So just watch the TV version, that's perfect enough!
The movie was utterly terrible, and it had lost me in about 40 minutes. The music wasn't all too good, compared to the anime. The characters not being likable was a huge let down. They tried making Okazaki so laid back to the point where he was trying not to talk to Nagisa, which in turn made her awkward to watch. The art wasn't all too good, nor was the timeline. The anime had lessons and clever references to itself. The movie attempts the same, but with terribly disappointing results.
@mrhoppy654 I agree with you, but I would really love to see a season 3 from the orginal creators, like, I know it's not going to follow the whole story, but I think it would be cool to have it like Nagisa never died, I think it would be awsome. Which I hope for becuase this is my birthday and It kinda sucks because I'm getting a little depressed becuase Nagisa died, so I really hope they are working on something like that. :D
@TheLegoFanMan In the end, she never really died I guess. I mean she did, but that was changed when Ushio died and Tomoya wished that she as saved which seemed to send back time I guess to Ushio's birth and Nagisa survived as well as Ushio. Don't you just love run-on sentences? Haha.
@bstarqueen11 Yea, Netfix freaking FAILS AT LIFE for describing the video thingy. On Netflix is says somthing like, "Tomoya thinks about what his life could have been life" Not what rrally happens, how like his life does a re-start and Nigisa does live. It's kinda confusing if you don't know what is going on... I just realized, i'm not on my main Anime account... Lol my main is Ushio Chan, which is aucutally funny becuase how Tomoya and Nigisa name their child that... I had no idea. XD
The movie was not even CLOSE to being as good as the show :( Atleast the show followed the manga right. The movie had some scenes that were correct but other then that, because of so much going on in the story, they made up a whole bunch of stuff that did not happen and events went on too fast.
I made the tragic mistake of seeing the movie before the anime...I am halfway through after story now, and I can say it is the most emotional show or even film I have ever seen. And I haven't even seen what I know will happen from the movie...bracing myself.
Moral? DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIE BEFORE THE ANIME!!!
And watch the anime, if you don't mind learning that yes, oh yes, can anime make you cry.

Can someone help me? I understand there are only 23 clannad episodes not including the after story so where does the movie come in? Is it after episode 23 and before the after story ?
@lynnluv123 The movie is essentially just a recap, so I'd recommend watching the actual anime (Clannad + After Story) as it tells the whole story in it's entirety and not just under 2 hours or so :p (It's still my top anime, you won't regret it!)
@lynnluv123 Go to animeready. com and just browse for Clannad, all the episodes are there including After Story. Whether they all still work or not i'm not too sure though :p

While the anime resembles the game more closely, I still like the movie. It has its own original flair to it, and Nagisa seems far more uplifted, cutting out alot of the slice of life, having to deal with her shyness day by day. While that's what stretches out the content of the game and anime, the movie has to cut that all out and focuses purely on the main plot points, themes and the humour. It's different and very decent as a movie and maintains all the original voice actors apart from Tomoya
Theres a movie for Clannad. Are you serious?! Why not just watch the show? If you dont have enough time in your day to watch the show then don't even watch anything of it at all. Besides the animation looks awful in this!
toei should really keep to doing less dramatic animes. leave stuff like this to key where they clearly does this type of anime far too well. afterstory made me cry :'( the writer is a jackass.

@Morone91 you might know since your comments 4 months old but there is one more they did more recently, it's called Angel Beats! (it really has and exclamation point in the name). It's a great anime, like all there animes, but Angel Beats is a weird one for Key, it leans toward more of an action anime. It's funny, serious when the time comes, but sad. I found Tomoya to actually be detestable in the movie. I love him in the series! Movie creators, WHAT DID YOU DO?!

Agreed... in the series, Tomoya helped all his friends and gave them a reason to love/care about him. HE was the "good guy". In the movie, he is depicted as miserable wreck, who really only helps one person in the entire film. (Nagisa) What makes it even more depressing, is that despite the fact that he helps Nagisa, Nagisa in turn helps him out twice as much.
Tomoya is a strong person, yet for some reason, he was depicted as weak ;/

im sorry but the movie was bullshit! the anime was soo much better!! my fave anime ever!! the movie was just horrible and A LOT OF CHARACTERS WERENT IN THERE INCLUDING FUKO AND THE ENDING WAS TOTALLY WRONG!!!!!!!

@MMAkrazy That movie is bad, and it's not made by Kyoto Animation. But to be fair, it is impossible for anyone to compress the whole epic story into 2 hours plus some more minutes. Just impossible. So just watch the TV version, that's perfect enough!

The movie was utterly terrible, and it had lost me in about 40 minutes. The music wasn't all too good, compared to the anime. The characters not being likable was a huge let down. They tried making Okazaki so laid back to the point where he was trying not to talk to Nagisa, which in turn made her awkward to watch. The art wasn't all too good, nor was the timeline. The anime had lessons and clever references to itself. The movie attempts the same, but with terribly disappointing results.

@mrhoppy654 I agree with you, but I would really love to see a season 3 from the orginal creators, like, I know it's not going to follow the whole story, but I think it would be cool to have it like Nagisa never died, I think it would be awsome. Which I hope for becuase this is my birthday and It kinda sucks because I'm getting a little depressed becuase Nagisa died, so I really hope they are working on something like that. :D

@TheLegoFanMan In the end, she never really died I guess. I mean she did, but that was changed when Ushio died and Tomoya wished that she as saved which seemed to send back time I guess to Ushio's birth and Nagisa survived as well as Ushio. Don't you just love run-on sentences? Haha.

@bstarqueen11 Yea, Netfix freaking FAILS AT LIFE for describing the video thingy. On Netflix is says somthing like, "Tomoya thinks about what his life could have been life" Not what rrally happens, how like his life does a re-start and Nigisa does live. It's kinda confusing if you don't know what is going on... I just realized, i'm not on my main Anime account... Lol my main is Ushio Chan, which is aucutally funny becuase how Tomoya and Nigisa name their child that... I had no idea. XD

The movie was not even CLOSE to being as good as the show :( Atleast the show followed the manga right. The movie had some scenes that were correct but other then that, because of so much going on in the story, they made up a whole bunch of stuff that did not happen and events went on too fast.

I made the tragic mistake of seeing the movie before the anime...I am halfway through after story now, and I can say it is the most emotional show or even film I have ever seen. And I haven't even seen what I know will happen from the movie...bracing myself.
Moral? DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIE BEFORE THE ANIME!!!
And watch the anime, if you don't mind learning that yes, oh yes, can anime make you cry.

i've only seen about 5mins. of it and im gonna be completely honest, clannad the movie is a total disaster compared to the series. after seeing clannad and clannad after story i would expect better but the movie was a big disapointment. clannad is the only anime ever that made me cry (and i seen alot of anime) so that would make clannad number 1 in my top 5 animelist but the movie is a hole differnt story ahah

I dislike how they have completely changed the art style from the original visual novel/ anime series. I don't recommend watching this movie, as it's basically a "squashed" up version of the series's.

@lynnluv123 The movie is essentially just a recap, so I'd recommend watching the actual anime (Clannad + After Story) as it tells the whole story in it's entirety and not just under 2 hours or so :p (It's still my top anime, you won't regret it!)

While the anime resembles the game more closely, I still like the movie. It has its own original flair to it, and Nagisa seems far more uplifted, cutting out alot of the slice of life, having to deal with her shyness day by day. While that's what stretches out the content of the game and anime, the movie has to cut that all out and focuses purely on the main plot points, themes and the humour. It's different and very decent as a movie and maintains all the original voice actors apart from Tomoya

@Morone91 you might know since your comments 4 months old but there is one more they did more recently, it's called Angel Beats! (it really has and exclamation point in the name). It's a great anime, like all there animes, but Angel Beats is a weird one for Key, it leans toward more of an action anime. It's funny, serious when the time comes, but sad.
