That's hysterical. His singing couldn't put them into their right brain and he fell out of his right brain as a result. Religious worship is so interesting. He's so upset at the end with their response.
Wow, I'm surprised someone from that church even found it important enough to video. I would have been clapping, raising my hands and shouting after a rendition like that.
Video is great! People are truly unresponsive which is very sad to me. Nothing like praising the Lord with uplifted voice! David Phelps is always so wonderful...course that goes for all the Gaither Vocal Band members as well as the Homecoming gang (not gang in a negative sense of the word). :)
My soul rises to meet the Lord when I hear this man sing. The Holy Spirit flows from his heart as music comes from his soul. Praise the Name of the Lord forever!!
The congregation wasn't use to the power of this song and David Phelp's gift. How can anyone sit there motionless and not be excited about How Great Our God Is??
Generally I do not question how people worship.... But let me ask a couple questions. If they were at a concert with some star, would they be this 'dead"? If it was their favorite sports team? Their favorite NASCAR driver? If they sat there expressionless there I can buy it here. And let's suppose you don't think David Phelps can sing (can't imagine how) this is talking about the greatness of God. When I hear this song it is God I worship. I appreciate the talent of David.
I'm not sure there are words to express how amazing this song and David Phelps are. God has certainly blessed him with an amazing talent. Mercy...that note at the end was flawless!
Forgive me, it is not my intention to be rude or judgemental, but can anyone explain why the audience is so ummm...stoic? Is it part of that particular church's doctrine not to display enthusiasm? I don't see even a single smile. His talent and ministry is pure awesomeness - Rejoice!
If you want to hear the greatest piano rendition of this, type How Great Thou Art-The Collingsworth Family. Kim Collingsworth plays piano as well as David sings! Come on, check it out. I promise you will never regret it!
whilst you guys are busy having a conversation proving nothing but how oblivious to the message you are......ponder on this instead
what a woderful gift god gave to david, its amazing that he can make a song a masterpiece like he does...thank you david for focusing on gods music....had you not i would never have been so impressed that i found everything you did and listened....and found god....thank you
Amen! I love the arranging talent God gave David, and I love this arrangement as well as the traditional one. David was also raised in a traditional Southern Baptist home (as was I) but thank God he broke free of the that and let God reign and not religion......God isn't Southern Baptist ya know! LOL Go David, let the Holy Spirit keep leading you in these beautiful songs for the Lord!!!
shyuk04...this is the reason the church is dead? Song style changes over time...its how things work. As long as a song is proclaiming the name of Christ, there should be Christians supporting it. As the late Jerry Fallwell once said, there is no sucht thing as a Christian instrument, just Christian musicians, and lyrics. Turn How Great Thou Art into a Christian rap song for all that I am concerned, that has probabably already been done though. Blessed be the name of Jesus
I agree that there is no such thing as Christian instruments and I was not bashing the song..is it really a sin for me or these church members not to like the arrangement. The first lesson a performer needs to learn is how to understand his audience. You can not be an effective performer if you do not understand who you are catering to. This song cannot be made better than the original..only arranged differently and I do not think that should happen.
Here's the reason the church is dead..they rearranged a classic hymn. That does not set well with me nor did it set well with this church. This song can never be made better.
I'm not complaing...I am simply telling you why the crowd was not standing and rejoicing as some people think they should...most people don't think remakes of songs are ever as good as the original. Obviously this church felt that way.
a great saying: "the past is a guidance post, not a hitching post"
i didnt see any youth in that church, which means the church will die with its members. the original was good when it was written, maybe even controversial, but times move on, this version is much more appropriate for today. As it has the same lyrics it has the same message so you can knock that, and as for the arrangement, much more appropriate for a worship team of today, we no longer use just organs.
I just come from a very traditional Southern Baptist home.. I attend a contemporary worship service at my church and love every second of it, however we shy away from changing the arrangement of hymns, they stay the same. Why? because no one in my church likes to mess with things like that. If it ain't broken, why fix it?
agreed...God does have a better future. I don't understand why I am being chastised for saying the arrangement was not to my liking nor was it to the liking of the church. Like I said earlier...as a performer you need to understand your audience...maybe this would have been better in a more youthful audience, not this one. Rule number one as a performer...know your audience's demographics.
your audience is God, when singing songs of worship, it doesnt matter whether you like it or not, it doesnt matter whether you like the song, because the song isnt being sung for you, its being sung for God....Rule number one is nothing about knowing demographics, rule number one is actually commandment number one
Once again I agree...rule number one is commandment number one. This started as a comment based on the people in the church not being excited about the song and the arrangement, not about whether or not God was excited about it. God is excited about anything we do to glorify his name. I simply said the performer should know who he is performing to at the moment, but some have turned this into a thing of me denouncing the Creator and what not, that is far from where this originated.
OMG, absolutely agree an awesome version, awesome annointed singer, that even if you didn't know the song you would get out of your seat and jump...WOW! OK folks wake up! I wish i knew what church this was...atleast they clapped..LOL
Baptist church I fear.... Having been in one for years, they just do not get the BLESSINGS the Lord brings and how much is lost without the excitement and love he brings to each of US.
what?!?!?! i would have been standing up arms outstretched worshipping with him. that song always moved me spiritually but with that voice behind it i would have been thanking God twice over! God bless the man!
I think that's a given..No one is is putting David above God or even comparing him. I guarantee you that many of those people not wanting to "praise David" would have no trouble shouting amens and hallelujahs and praising the pastor for his wonderful sermon. It's just encouragement to let David know that we recognize God has given him an awesome gift and we would like him to keep using it to glorify God and edify church members.
