The two parts in wich you can only see his finger, thats the melody/solo track
The part in wich you can see him strumming is the rythm track
So there are two tracks in this video playing along with each other: rythm and melody just like the guitars in a band: a rythm guitar and a solo guitar
Strange video - the notes don't appear to follow the fingering? Some of the melody is being played while the fingers hold a chord, and there's no plucking / fingering to follow the accompaniment? It's almost as if there's another instrument off-screen playing along?
I have been practicing this on my bouzoukie for a year know and i still don't know how he does it or how he tuned it. Some one please help! 13 year old in distress!!!
The sound reminds me a lot of a mountain (lap) dulcimer. Absolutely haunting and gorgeous. Here is my analysis of the tuning: It is a fourth above standard mandocello, with the bass side string pairs tuned in octaves, and the treble side string pairs tuned in unison; the same principle as a 12-string guitar. The tuning therefore would be in perfect fifths: F' F C'C GG DD bass to treble. ( ' indicates the high octave string). Those octave strings add a lot of fullness and brilliance.
this is a beautiful tune! was hoping it was traditional! I have a Hathway Mandolin and my father has a mandola. there is something about these instruments. They just have a sound i have never really heard on any other instruments.

in hobgoblins, london, (the same model, not the same actual one), paul hathway is fantastic, go see his workshop if you have the time, google him and youll find his website
Nice playing! How are your experiences with Paul Hathway? I'm thinking of buying a mandocello (CGDA tuning) from him. Have you strung your instrument with thicker strings to make it a mandocello? Or do you use it always as a bouzouki? I would really like to hear your opinion about Paul Hathway's instruments...
"EYES CLOSED composition played on my "MANDOCELLO PAUL HATHWAY" this small assembly also makes it possible to view the accompaniment. Dominique Rivière "
Thank you for the info about paul hathway, can i ask you if you have the notes for this song? If so please send it to me so i can learn it on mandolin and eventually when i get my mandocello i can play it.
That sounds incredible. Might i ask where you can get a mandocello? I have searched on ebay and the selection is pretty low. I have decided to buy a mandocello because i already play violin guitar and mandolin, and it seems like a logical next step.
is it me, or is the neck on that mandolin as wide as a guitar? or is it a different sort of mandolin? im a guitarist, not a mandolin player, so excuse my ignorance please
It's a mandocello, which is larger and has a lower range than a mandolin. If you think of a mandolin as a kind of "plucked violin", the mandocello is a kind of "plucked cello".
Her hat eine sehr ausführliche Website, mit vielen sehr interessanten Partituren... und er spielt Gitarre, Bouzouki (Buzuki auf Deutsch) une viele andere Instrumente...
ok my friend, this is not a cello or a mandocello, but it is an irish bouzouki tuned in mandocello (cello also) tuning. The mandocello is the mandolin family version of a cello. (just as mandolins are the equivilant of violins.) I am getting one.
but this has two courses tuned in octave, a mandocello`s courses are tuned in unison...

Irish bouzouki has flat back. I think that was more for a key word incase of a search.

bouzouki and mandocello are the same instrument. bouzouki has curved back, mandocello has straight back,

gdae, low to high
Celticwithakick 2 years ago
GDAE is the tuning for an octave mandola or the Irish Bouzouki (can be GDAD or GDAE).
The Mandocello is tuned lower in CGDA, just like a cello. It has huge strings.
