@vaidulisbudulis -- I'm not really playing anything in particular... just kind of a standard alternating bass pattern picking thing... nothing written down that I'm going by.
@thamastachief -- If it works, then great! It probably depends on what notes are used in a song. There are only 2 notes that are different on a C Melody Maker from a standard diatonic 10-hole harp in the key of G.
I've seen alot of lessions but this is very very good I will be using it to practice with. many thanks for your fantstic effort to help the less talented, like myself .
JUST STARTED MY 3RD EVENING WITH BLUESHARP (HOHNER C) AND I LOVE YOUR TUTORIAL.GREAT. AT LEAST I CAN UNDERSTAND MORE OF THE HARP AND I PLAY MORE OR LESS THE FIRST PART WITH YOU. THANKS.
I think you have a standard diatonic 10-hole harmonica, and that won't work to play this arrangement. You need a Lee Oskar Melody Maker in the key of G.
If you have a Melody Maker in the key of A you can play the same arrangement (the same holes) but it's in the key of A instead of G. If you're playing it with the guitar be sure to put the capo on the 2nd fret or transpose the chords to the key of A.
No... the way I play it is the way it says on the video. Keep in mind I'm playing a Lee Oskar Melody Maker, which is not a standard diatonic harmonica. There is no single "right" way of playing it and that's why there are differences in arrangements by different people. If it sounds good it's right; if it sounds bad, it's not right. And sometimes even that is subjective.
I'm playing in Em on the video using a Lee Oskar Melody Maker in the key of G. If you want to play in Am you would use a Melody Maker in the key of C, or you could also use a standard harp tuned in Am. Keep in mind the Lee Oskar Melody Maker harps are tuned differently than the others so the holes you play wouldn't be the same on other harps.
Hey, that's very nice. I play a harp, and a little banjo. Never been able to master one of those neck braces though. You do a great job, and it's nice that you provide this so others can learn. Thanks.
You are good, i love this

Can I play this with a hohner themolo harmonica?
MrMarkoll 4 months ago
@MrMarkoll -- What's a "themolo" harmonica? Do you mean tremolo? No... it has to be a Lee Oskar Melody Maker.

I have a Hohner Sonny Boy with 6 holes. It seems to work, but not nearly as great as you make it sound.

so a hohner sonnyboy will not suffice?
thamastachief 8 months ago
@thamastachief -- It probably won't work unless it's tuned like a Melody Maker.

fastfirenick 2 years ago
You'll need to use a Lee Oskar Melody Maker in the key of G -- a standard harmonica is not the same and won't sound right.

Youtube isn't the best for this, but according to my book you play it like this:
-4 -4 5 -5 -6 6 -4 -5 -8
-8 -8 7 -6 6 -6 -6 7
First part. Anyway, hate that there are so many versions of every single song online. I'm new to this, I'm not sure what's "right".
