  • i have a super 8 camera with old bl2s and shark noses on the film

  • You should contact Pentrex for a joint venture approach to restoring your movies.

  • I'm a collector of D&RGW and Santa Fe PA-1's but the D&H PA-1's are so beautiful that it is hard to not be a fan of them. Thanx for sharing your videos with us.

  • no one made a PA's look like the queens they truly were ,like the Delaware and Hudson, did that is one classy paint scheme. great video ,and love the sound.

  • The mighty PA locomotives, after the M-K rebuild, they went to mexico and damaged on various derailments, were kept on the deadline until the empalme workforce(FCP's alco hospital)slowly rebuild DH19,then officials took the engine to the puebla museum then they secretly rebuild DH 17,and painted in a variation of SP's daylight scheme, paying homage of the line's US heritage "Sud Pacifico de Mexico"..which also resides in puebla,in. Working condition, but really faded paint

  • what pa-1

    Jake

  • Bbgff

  • Ccvv

  • Cdcvvf

  • @trainzaholic I was just wondering the same thing.

  • what kind of horn is that?!!!!!!!

  • Hey Tom.

my father worked for the D&H maybe your grandfather knew my dad.

  • Please do I lived near this stuff growing up. My father use to work as a brakeman in summers in Plattsburgh, NY eventually becoming an engineer on the NJ.

  • It would be nice if you could sell the video to one of the big train video companies so they could digitally restore them, very unique.

  • Considering I've never seem an operating PA, pretty cool!

  • Phenominal Vid! I'm excited to see more!

  • This was amazing!!! The video looks great...

  • Fantastic footage. I do not know much about trains but have always loved them from the time a was about 3, I am now 41. I used to beg my mom to stop the car whenever we would cross over tracks and she would let me open my door just to reach down and touch the cold steel rail. Again, Very nice footage 1jackdk.

  • Was that alternate 7 at the end?

  • Wow, what a horn!

  • The final survivors, only to be wrecked and trashed by mexicans. Sad, but the PAs were doomed early on by their 244 prime movers. These M-K rebuilds were what a PA should've been...same body with a 251 in it! Too bad more weren't done this way.

  • Jack, I LOVE THESE OLDER FLIX!!! Please, by all means post more any way, any quality will work for me. These are the only thing I have found that turn back the hands of time for me. Regards, John

  • Great video! Love the PA units!

  • this is how locos should sound... hungry like this PA

  • The PA'S were a nice passenger locomotive.

  • Who really cares if it is shaky, and the audio is "poor" (Not that bad) What you did is preserve history of a nice locomotive... One that might never run again (That is if #190 isn't completed)

  • @bigboy4016 I don't think Doyle will ever get 190 on the rails. Trying to use the F-M trucks is proving ot be a big problem, so I hear. Those trucks are somewhere down in Mexico, you can believe it.

  • Thanks for the awesome video of a true classic train!

  • I remember riding the Laurentian ( before Amtrak) into Grand Central!! My face was black from diesel exhaust when we got to NY as I was in the vestibule most of the time. The only thing I remember is eating a tuna fish on toast in the ex Rio Grande dining car. It had triangular shaped tables. ?!?!?

  • @wicky201 Yes, that's one thing any Alco was famous for...soot. Try riding in a cab behind a set of Alco helpers sometime! YECH! Hated those things.

  • Thank you for the video.

  • Awesume horn!!!!

  • i think you should share as much of this as possible

  • OMG awesome video , love them. If you have any more of the videos from the colonie yard id lo ve to see them , my grandfather worked here for many many years till they closed it down , i know he would get a huge kick out of seeing them once again to relive old memories, He is always talking about the 40 or so years he worked there.

    Thanks in advance,

    tom

  • @tom12020 Hi Tom, Glad you enjoyed the clip. Sorry to say, this was the only movie I took in the complex, but I did manage to take some pictures around the grounds on my visit. Thanks for watching...

  • anyone else notice in the final shot of PA no. 17 the dome car has the amtrak logo on it?

  • I like the sound of the bell on the engine it sounds really nice.

  • Hey could you make a DVD of this and the Amtrak one for me so I can give it to my dad for Christmas?

  • Alco PAs are COOL locomotives!!!

  • nice ALCO!!!

  • NICE!

  • Great video. Love the D&H Alco PA

  • any gg1s

  • @Seekanddestroy1ful there are some GG-1's in my videos. Just got to look. I'll see if I can get some more posted. Thanks for looking. Jackmp294

  • any pennsylvania gg1s

  • Sound sucks(no offence) BUT the video Quality is GREAT!!!! (Thats the most important part) The video makes up for the sound!!!!!!!!!!100%

  • The sound is actually great on the film. The guy that reproduced it had the volume turned up to high while he transfered it to VHS, and its way over modulated. You should hear some of my film. Holy CRAP. Someday, when I can afford it, I'll get all 11, 400' reels professionally done. I bet that will cost a bunddle. LOL. Thanks for watching. Jack...

  • whether they are going fast or standing still the alco PAs always look sharp

  • FYI Colonie is spelled C-O-L-O-N-I-E.:)

  • Beautiful locomotive

  • This movie is awesome. As a person born in 1987 and living in Poland, I've never had any occasion to see working Alco PA locomotives. Thank you!

  • Thanks for posting! MORE PLEASE!

  • WOW the DH17 now live in Mexico in the Museum in Puebla the museum name is MUSEO NACIONAL DE LOS FERROCARRILES MEXICANOS you want this loco in youtube want PENTREX PACIFICO RAIL PA DH-17 5* sorry my english its bad

  • Wow Thanks so much for posting this! I love the D&H. The quality of video and sound is pretty good in my opinion :D Thanks for putting it up.

  • Thanks for posting this. It is amazing to see and hear PAs. I'm 33 and I've liked them since I was about 9 years old, but never heard one until I saw this.

  • DUDE WTF Your holding out on me of your classic film!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for sharing the sound and sights of a real Alco PA, This has made my day.

  • Cool! How much were those movie cameras in the '70s? Thanx fur sharin'!

  • $300.00 range, if I remember correctly.

  • Whoa! Thanks!

  • I know the PAs all still exist but what about passenger cars? I know that Diner 152, Lunch Counter Buffet Louge 43 and the business car that was kept by Guilford are still around and also the 5 ex Rio Grande 52 seat coaches went to south america. Does anyone know what happend to the other diners and the world fair coaches?

  • Awesome engines and fantastic trains both Adirondack and Laurentian.. fantrips were great too. Thanks for posting this video

  • Well we've got to get them. Washington states Cascade has been running for years everyone loves it. It also looks HOT! Or is that cool? Anyway Tilt trains are a way of speeding up on old tracks. Wisconsin just bought two 47 million dollars trains. For Chicago-Milwaukee service (Maybe Madison soon) God look at all the money spent on the turbo at Supersteel. They just need to put diesel engines in them and run them to Scranton and Boston.

  • Oh, I also loved seeing the D&H world's fair coaches from 1939 on the back. With a exDRG&W diner. Today this really should be a Talgo Tilt train Look under German Tilt train on you tube to see what I mean. D&H has alot of curves.

  • I got a video clip of the tilt train passing my house when it was being tested by Amtrak. From what I understand, it didn't work out, as the passengers tended to get motion sickness when it was moving, and tilting at the same time. Thanks for looking. Jackmp294

  • Very nice, enjoyed it! I loved the D&H too. My favorite was EL and DL&W. It took me years but I finally got to ride the A&S to Binghamton years ago. So I have the D&H ridden all the way Binghamton to Montreal.

  • ugly

  • As a teenager in the 70's I drove by the Colonie shops all the time to see the PA's; was lucky enough to ride a few fan trips behind them with my Dad; Thanks for posting these-way better than my faded still photos!

  • This is outstanding film! Love every second of it!

  • Great stuff. Thanks for making the effort to transfer to digital. Please show us more.

  • Nothing prettier than a D&H Alco PA!

  • Fantastic! I'm in awe of these machines now for the first time in my life.. Born too late, and still pictures don't do them justice!

  • Very nice! Splendid video

Thank you so much for leaving the sound track ALONE.

I want to hear the ALCO powerplant NOT some overdubbed music!!! It is odd that some folks seem to think their film editing skills can even come close to the original....

  • WOW!!! AWESOME footage I must say. I am an avid D&H buff and seeing this really put a smile on my face. The Alco PA's and Baldwin Sharks were a thing of the past by the time I was born so thanks for recording this and putting it up on youtube! I look forward to more videos. Thanks again!!!

  • whow!! great horn!!!

  • What great memories. The world sure has changed for the worse since then. Thanks for these amazing videos.

  • Another wonderful find!

  • OK! That will do it, and yes, thats me.

    Jack

  • Don't know whats going on? But I have NEVER deleted and re-uploaded any of my videos, and I haven't uploaded any in over a month. Whys it doing that? Non one else has had any problems.

  • WHAT IN THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???? Delite, and upload what????

  • Jack, this is great stuff! Really enjoyed it

  • 8mm, VHS or digital... it does not matter... you filmed some historical stuff and the sound was rather great!!! Thanx for sharing, looking foward to seeing more!!!

  • Now THIS is a classic, alot more interesting than the GEVO shots of today, GEVOS SUCK

  • Amen to that!!! I'll take some old ALCO's Geeps or F's anyday... Now if we can invent a time machine and go back... Thanks for watching. Jackmp294

  • Great video, the PA was always my favorite. I remember seeing a pair of these D&H PA's back in the 70's on a special run between Baltimore and Washington. A beautiful sight.

  • 1jackdk, you never cease to amaze me! I have always wanted to know what a PA sounded like! Did you take the footage yourself? How'd you get the sound? Sound camera? Sorry 'bout the sound camera questions. Most commercailly available video cameras of the seventies had no sound! According to Pentrex adding sound to their ancient clips. Thanx fur sharin'! PS, awesome vid, I'm favoriting this! Thanx!

  • Yes, I did shoot this myself. I had purchased a Kodak Super 8 sound camera in the 70's. Very primitive thing. Holds a 3 1/2 minute film cartridge, with a sound track strip on the film. I have 11 or 12 400' reels of this stuff. The guy that put this on VHS tape for me did a terrible job with the sound. I may look at getting these films professionally done. The quality will be a whole lot better. Stay tuned for more old stuff... Thanks for watching. Jack

  • Absolutely brilliant Jack, considering it's age the quality of picture and sound is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm Welsh! :o) 5* Bob

  • Thanks Bob, for all the complements on this clip, and others. I will be posting some more soon. Thanks for watching, and take care, Jack...

  • awsome videos. love seeing the old stuff, very interesting. Keep em comming please :D lol

  • Will do!!! Thanks for watching. Jack...

  • Wonderful! Love to see the classic stuff!

  • Nice footage! Thanx fur sharin'!

  • Awesome capture.!!!

More Train clips would be cool.

    Cheers.

  • thats cool to see all of the old stuff 5 stars!!

  • Post everything even if you think it's crap.

  • I'll be posting more. I figured out how to lighten them up a bit. So I will get some more edited... But I don't know where to start!!! LOL. Take care, and thanks for watching. jackmp294...

  • Wow - what a find! Thanks for posting this!

  • Excellent video. One for the history books. Thanks very much for sharing.

  • Nice archive footage! I remember watching D&H Passengers trains at Windsor station in Montreal as a kid, they were always impressive.

  • very cool, 5 stars

  • Very nice, I wish I was around during those days....

  • Great video Jack, 5 Star material right there.
