Lord nelson been one but my favourite brit navy commander comes from my neck of the wood Admiral Sir George Rooke. Not only did he play a large part in the capture of Gibralter in 1704, but rooke and royal navy thrashed the arses off the french and spanish treasure fleet, at the battle of vigo bay 1702 part of the war of the spanish succession.
