my dog is doing this just now, as if she has a cold.... its happends a few times in her life, but she has always been fine after a week or so... also your dog looks like mines haha!
ok my dog LOOKS IDENTICAL TO YOURS!!! its insane! mine is a girl i got her at a shelter in tx i adopted her brother too. shes a terrier lab mix! :D i cant believe how similar they are!
No, its not kennel cough. the dog is backward/ reverse sneezing and if you have him swallow when this is happening, it will stop. Basically the dog will start doing it and then panic that he/she cant breath. If you just calm him/her down and hold their snout so he/she will swallow, they will realize theyre okay and they can breathe.
My sheltie does this and we though he had athsma. Then we found out the truth. Your dog will be find there is no cause for concern.
My Siberian Husky just started doing this. We recently moved to south Florida from South Carolina. Maybe it's the weather change? We also have a yard here he rummages through all day. Lots of dirt so the allergy thing could make sense.
We have an Australian Shepard who has recently started the same thing. He won't do it constantly, just when he starts getting excited. He's a very high strung dog and the excitement happens quite frequently. He has been here in WV his whole life. We thought maybe he swallowed something, he has an issue with playing fetch and will try to use everything from a little piece of mulch to whatever he can find laying around.
Hey, I don't know how I came across this video, but my dog looks so similar to yours it's unbelievable! Where did you get him from? We got ours from a shelter near Atlanta.
@deezbananas We got her from a shelter in Atlanta - I guess they aren't related haha. Let me see if i can send pictures to you some how, otherwise ill try to post a video of her.
my daughter's husky also does this occasionally and the vet does not know the cause. The husky likes to chew on any and everything so I thought perhaps somthing had obstructed her breathing but the vet says no. If anyone knows what the cause is, please share.
could be allergies to anything. dust, plants or food. I live in AZ for 8 years. my 2 toy poodles leved here all their lives. one of them started having seizures and started wheezing on a regular basis. I just switched to no wheat, no soy, no corn food. Many dogs are allergic to wheat or other ingredients that almost all commercial dog foods have.
@kudzmaite0 I agree with u i have a beagle who has this same problem the vet told me it was backwards sneezing and to give him benedryl. i also live in arizona and my vet says do to the dust storms we have been getting the past couple of months a lot of dogs with allergies are coming in with the same problem.
Two of my dogs started doing this after we moved to Arizona and they were digging in the dirt and sticking their noses in rodent holes. My vets don't find anything wrong with them. Could be an allergic reaction to dust?
@KachemakKaren This was in the weeks after he came home from the shelter. It's been months now and he's all better, I think. I hear the wheezing mayyybe once a month but doesn't last as long :)
It looks like a reverse sneeze.
