George was my undergrad project mentor in 2000/2001, and the lessons he taught me a decade ago still ring true today! George will be missed; I hope Mike can continue to carry on all their fine work.
I used to make the posters at the San Francisco Art Institute (where George taught) for Cinematique and always enjoyed doing posters for the Kuchar's films. Fun memories of watching the films at the theater at SFAI. Also there, the instructor Richard Miller joined in the fun. RIP George!!
@visceralgristle Agreed. I think he meant in "owning the person" and "making love to the person" he meant owning the ART he created of the person by putting them in his film as he saw fit and "making love' to the person as in "lovingly in art form" of the film...not literally the person's body.I'm a painter and many times I'[ve lovingly portrayed a person-I think this is what he meant. nothing harsh or disrespectful

RIP George Kuchar. Thank you for your (& Mike's) years of totally cool films. And thank you for inspiring so many worthwhile filmmakers.

George Kuchar passed away late last night Tuesday September 6.
He was 69.
No plans have been set for a memorial yet.
One of the most interesting independent filmmakers of the 1960s and beyond, this is a major loss to the world of cinema.

That's a creepy scumbag thing to say. You can make love to a woman you couldn't have, with the camera, and own them. That says a lot about that man.

@DubbzNYC
If a statement like that offends you, you have no business with underground cinema.

@DubbzNYC Guess you didn't watch the movie, or else you'd know he's gay.
