  • Would like to see this video with a new sound track, one where you enunciated each word rather than mumbling.

  • Have you tried Elderflower Champagne or Cordial? I've been saving up strong/heavy glass bottles all winter because i'm determined to make it this year, along with some raspberry vodka and plum wine (umeshu) because i had more fruit than i knew what to do with this year

  • I'm just seeing this now. Great video missus! :-) Y'know, all of us who are 'sick of being sick and tired' have a lot more good info to share than whats wrong with the world. I've been toying with making vids about the food i'm growing, and all the canning i've been doing, or the random thoughts in my head etc but i look at my subs and see a sea of tinfoilers and feel i got nothing to say to them... lol Nothing they wanna hear anyway :-/

  • @TheSpartacat

    I'm not 'doomy' enough... lol

  • So does Chaga, a fungus usually found on dieing birch trees. : ) they make an excellent tea! It has been used in Russia for years to treat cancer and a whole host of other problems.

  • Did you say how many cups of berries you started with?

  • Comment removed

  • Really liked your video-- enjoyed how casual it was and how you showed us your mistakes. Very helpful. Also liked your Tracy Chapman. Have a good winter!

  • hi

how long will the juice stray fresh for?

    looks good to me.

  • Just ordered Natural Sources Natural Elderberry from iherb.com.They have other brands though, but I've read some good views NS.You can get $5 off any order with ongoing coupon code TAW742 (valid for one person per household) plus you can pick 2 different free samples from the free link at the top of their page.

  • . ...cool,, never heard of Elderberry Syrup before.

  • During the cooking process (20 minutes!!!) you are killing the nutrients in the fruit!!! You should follow the raw foods guide to heating and keep your cooking to a specific temperature as not to kill the phyto nutrients in the fruit.

  • @ajahni hi what are the guidelines-i was wondering about this subject. is there a good website for info?

  • Thanks to Elderberry Syrup I've actually lived through the swine flu ! :-D

  • cool vid

  • EXCELLENT!!! : )

  • BOO!! To the uncute/fugly girl. YAY!! to the content

  • @mrlemonbreath lmao. . . then WHY are you subed to me, hmm? :P I'm not on here to be 'cute' , I'm here for my friends and to keep my mind open...

    You're hilarious . . .

  • @StarrJaded lol... well maybe I think you actually are kinda cute :) shh, don't tell anyone.

  • Hi great vid =)

  • I can't hear a word, the sound is too low...

  • @ep784 I know. . . sorry :(

  • IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO KEEP TEMP BELOW 105F WHEN ADDING raw HONEY.RETAINS THE MOLECULER CHAIN INN THA HONEY.

  • @KRAZEEKOZ Good info, thank you =)

  • @KRAZEEKOZ - She should keep the "cooking" temperature at a raw foods level as not to kill the nutrients in the berries also!!!

  • There is a hole in your spoon....

  • @xmorg haha

  • Your mother is an hamster and your father smells of elderberries!

i'll take this over the h1n1 vaccine anyday. thank you for introducing me to this wonderful food.

  • That was great!! I'll be looking out for those berries.

  • That was totally awesome....(coming from a bachelor dude)!!!

I hope you make more DIY vids, Aloha, UC!!

  • @UnderseaCaveman Cool, glad you liked it =) Hope all is well with you =)

  • Thanks alot I have made this also for the winter.....Good job on the first how to....

  • AwEsOmE

  • @donHooligan Do you and Cheri Have Elderberries there? You can dehydrate them do...just dry them on screens ...all sorts of ways to dry them. The natives did that and helped them through the winter in many different ways =)

  • @donHooligan Oh, and they also used the 'twigs' off of the berry clumps for die. Although there is cyanide in them. research em if you havent...you love that elderyberry =)

  • Thanks for sharing. I made my first batch of elderberry jam this year and canned a quart of the juice to use for medicine as needed.

  • sweet info - thanks

  • I think you did a great job with the how to video. Keep up the good work.

  • Elder is very powerful, the Amish use it for a variety of reasons. Since I had no health care, I used the Elderberry wash technique for my eye infection. It took quite awhile for it to be effective, but it certainly worked. My eye was free of infection, stopped watering and looking ghastly. Thank You, Elderberry.

  • nice!

  • Well done!

  • Could you tell me the botanical name for the Elderberries you are using? The ones over here in the UK (Sambucus nigra) are much smaller and dark purple/black in colour. I've never seen the ones you are using over here.

  • @tomwash1 Sambucus mexicana [cerulea] (Blue Elderberry) =)

  • Why would anyone thumb this down!! Thanks StarrJaded, your berries looked lovely and considerably bigger than the ones I get here in the UK! Made a cranberry style sauce from them last year but I think I'll go with this way this year, I prefer the idea of using honey to sugar for one thing. I believe elder are recommended for flu prevention and treatment, I think a lot of herbal remedies have them in. Peace

  • @ccodling Ahhh tis all good =) Some people just can't stand me. . . but I don't give a rip =)

I'm thinking about going out and picking some more, and drying them and make some tinctures. Or and, drying a large amount of them and storing them for winter =) That's what the natives did here for 1,000's of years =)

  • @StarrJaded Good stuff, I tend to take that philosophy towards what other people think of me myself =)

Drying them! Hadn't thought of that, are the edible raw once dried? Built myself a food dehydrator over the summer for drying fruit etc. so could do quite a large batch myself =)

  • Awesome. I'm glad to see you making this type of video. I bet you have a lot of great info to share.

Alfalfa sprouts also have that cyanide compound that is a major cancer fighter. In fact in the last year that I've been eating a lot of sprouts, I've seen a weird looking mole on the side of my forehead (that I've been keeping an eye on) shrink to almost nothing.

  • 2. Right now I'm saving up to buy some rural real estate in south western Washington. When I buy it I want to plant a lot of pemaculture plantings and wild food producing plants. I wonder if elderberry would be something that would be worth adding to the property?

  • @vention4wh Most definitely plant them =) I would at least. They are such an amazing berry once you really research their healing properties. You can take the bark and make a burn ointment too. Sprouts are VERY good for you =) Search on youtube for The Beautiful Truth . . . best documentary I've ever seen, just watched it last night =) I'll put it up on my playlist as soon as i get a chance =)

  • @vention4wh I think you'll enjoy this documentary =)

watch?v=Ye4N8EH3dog That is just the first part...there are 13, in about 7:30 min videos. Best documentary I've seen =)

  • @vention4wh Tx =) Actually, I have a lil project I'm going to be venturing into in the next couple years ;) I'm not talken about it though. . . it will be a surprise =) Only 3 people on yt know what i have up my sleeve hehe =) you'll just have ta wait n see =)

Glad your mole is shrinking =) Sounds like that documentary is right up your alley =)

  • I love when a woman can cook.;-)

  • @LouieArrighi lol. . . I don't love cooking though haha, I'd rather be out hiking or 4x4 en out in the mud =) . . . I call this making medicine and canning ;) Much more fun =)

  • hey gurl..you still here in OREGON...we seen yesterday..no lie..X-3 members we got some patriots keeping an eye on them..and good vid. make sure you wash these berries very , very good..they can even kill you!!

    doc

  • Nice vid... now all I have to do is find some elderberry bushes.

    :)

    -TEW

  • @theeastwatch you can order dried ones from the internet, or from your local health food store for only a couple of dollars =)

  • Very nice first how to vid Gal A+ Sounds great ! Thanks.

  • @happygalmarried Thanks darlin. . . I just threw the vid together for a friend =)

  • I always thought my Mom was a psychic when we came home from hours of picking blackberries in the woods for pie. How did she know how we ate half of them while doing so? LOL

    Peace SJ

    Mike

  • So is this cough syrup or for pancakes?

  • @1eyednewt Both. I take a tablespoon of it everyday to stop from getting sick.If I do get sick I take it 2 or 3 times a day. Check out the info in the description box =) Elderberry is an extremely healing berry.

  • @1eyednewt I made some cough syrup out of garlic, onion, and ginger. Chopped them up, and put the onion garlic and ginger at bottom of a qrt jar, then a layer of evaporated cane juice sugar, and repeat layering until filled to the top of the jar. Let sit for 4-5 hrs and then take a spoonfull of the syrup it created =)

  • I ate one raw once it was so bitter.

  • @Mythicist You shouldnt eat them uncooked! Wash them and cook them, or dry them.

  • I bet elderberry wine would be tasty.

  • @TheHippness It is =) my friend has made some before...that and elderberry tinctures are great for winter colds n flu. Tincture is simple, take dried elderberries, put them into a qrt jar, and fill with 190 proof vodka. Yup I said vodka...it kicks the bug n its ass. ;)

  • @StarrJaded That sounds REALLY good! I've never had elderberries. I'm gonna have to get a hold of some..

    Thanks =)

  • I used to go in the woods (next to the house) to pick-em many years ago. My mother made jelly & syrup with them. Yumm!!!

P.S. If I leave now I'll be able to make it to Oregon by Friday morning for some pancakes with elderberry syrup. ; ) Haha!

  • @june201955 Well weren't you lucky =) I never had elderberry anything until about 11 yrs ago or so.

and hahaha, my kids loved it =)

  • Thanks for sharing this

  • Your father was a hampster, and your mother smelled of elderberries

  • @anastasia81472 lmao... you crack me up woman :P

  • I used them in smoothies(The blueberry most).

  • Awesome, thanks StarrJaded! Can you used dried Elderberries? Probably would take more that way and may have to add more liquid.

Did you pick yours or order them? Can't remember if you mentioned that.

I'll have to tell Mom about this! She makes comfrey and plaintain salves, and aloe spray.

  • @ChrmdLabradorite yes =) watch?v=XOYzWyFGkqM

I bet your Mom already knows about it though ;) hehe

Hubby picked these ones on his way home =) They grow everywhere here out in the woods and along mountain roads =)

  • @StarrJaded Yeah, she probably does, lol. Thanks so much for the link. That's wonderful you have so many close to you!

  • Sorry, if I missed it, but did you say you picked them yourself? Take care hon, nice to see you :)

  • @CanadianPatriot1973 My hubby and I picked the ones I used a week or so ago. These ones he picked on his way home. They are everywhere here in oregon =) Hope you're doing good =) <3 I'm off to get some things done for the day =)

  • Cool, thanks.

  • ★★★★★

  • awesome...thx, and you are Beautiful ; )

  • I love these types of wild edible / medicinal plant videos.

Thanks for all the additional info in the video description.

My medicinal plant book also warns about the unripe berries along with the bark, root and leaves. It says they can cause cyanide poisoning.

  • @DrRonPaul2012 Yes, you are correct! I just added an annotation to the video. Wish I would have verbally mentioned it in the vid though. The elderberry bark is also used for making burn ointments =) Elderberry is such a powerful and multipurpose plant.

  • I haven't seen those in Pennsylvania. Interesting.

  • @jdouglasfisher I sent you a PM, maybe that would help you find some in your area =)

  • Fun! :o) Thank you.

  • YUM!

  • @SheepDoggOne Mmmhmmm yummy is right =) It's delicious over pancakes too =)

  • No sugar?

  • @DrDissent

Im on your tail today pal! ahahahah

  • @SheepDoggOne Please remove your spy camera from my office! lol

  • @DrDissent No, I used honey. I don't ever measure, I'm one of 'those' cooks :P I put about 1 1/3 cups of honey from my father in law's honey bees in the elderberry juice. The honey adds even more healing aid to the syrup.

If you put a lil bit more honey in the berry juice it makes an excellent syrup for pancakes. We had pancakes with this syrup the other day and my kids LOVED it & it helps them not get sick.

  • @StarrJaded Ahh I forgot about the honey.
