You have to be kidding. Russians still afraid of Stalin? I have heard it all, but that one surely made me laugh. Uhm, for your info, Stalin did not persecute Jews. His own Politburo was full of them and they remained there even after he died. The Army was equally populated by Jews. The youngest Front commander of WWII, General Ivan Cherniakovski, was Jew, so was Major General Dovator, a prestigious tank commander. You can say many things about Stalin, but he was not a persecutor of Jews.

He made very drastic efforts to paint them all as traitors (many historians believe this was to be a precursor to new purges). And there was also the Anti-Zionist Committee of the Soviet Public.

@CubanColonel Actually, as much as I hate to have to say it, Stalin did persecute Jews late in his rule (after the "Doctors' Plot"). Even Molotov's own wife was deported to Siberia. It's unfortunate, but even the racially-egalitarian USSR persecuted the Jews.

I do not agree totally with you. The doctor's plot are just pure conjectures of what could have happened that never actually took place. The Soviet government was made in great part by Jews, and as I exposed previously, so was the Army. Stalin's favorite Front commander the brilliant General Cherniakovski (at 37 a full four-star general and the youngest Front commander in history) was Jew and so were many other talented generals.

Not only that, but the USSR was the first country to have a department in the government devoted to the rights of women, and they were the first to officially legalize being gay.

Si entiendo tu punto de vista y es coherente. Me refiero especialmente a una situacion de igualdad de condiciones como la guerra fria (USA VS URSS). Ni los sovieticos ni los norteamericanos lanzaron bombas atomicas durante la guerra fria, cosa que en mi opinion hubiera sido diferente con los nazis. Incluso opino que Stalin no la hubiera lanzado (¿no llego Stalin a tenerla despues de la guerra?). De cualquier manera entiendo tu punto de vista pero opino diferente.

if you want a system that converts mountains to soda cans or forests into tissue boxes as quickly as possible, then capitalism's your best option. that's what GDP is.
on the other hand, if the entire population of new jersey suddenly had cancer, it would increase NJ's GDP by virtue of medical expenses, despite the very dramatic blow to their wellbeing.
