I love that last quote at the end "I man tells his stories so many times, that he becomes the stories, they live on after him...and in that way...he becomes immortal"
So true about Tim Burton and so many other directors
@Fuzzyfoot88 He's not becoming unoriginal, studios are offering him chances to make films in his own style; when they start shooting and conferencing, the studios make changes to his scripts and ideas. It's not his fault
@ListedProduction Sorry. I highly doubt the man who got Edward Scissorhands, Bettlejuice, and Big Fish made is still taking orders like script changes from the big wigs. He already does what he wants, he just chooses not to come up with something that original again.
@Fuzzyfoot88 Okay, well say we take this rout than (I see your point): would it be because his idea is unoriginal, or because he's not incorporating his trademarks and styles?
@MephProduction If that's the case then James Cameron is a genius with Avatar, and a Bug's Life is next to godliness considering it is The Magnificent Seven which in turn is Seven Samurai.
He is unoriginal because it is easy money. It doesn't matter if he tells a familiar story in an original way, it's still an unoriginal story.
@Fuzzyfoot88 You can't compare Cameron with Burton, . But you can like Avatar and Bug life if you wish, It's not my cup of tea i thought Avatar was terrible. Hollywood has been unoriginal since the mid 30s, remaking, re-booting and adaptations, it's not new.. But it's HOW the stories are told. You hate Tim movies but you seem to spend a lot of time watching and talking about them., while i avoid all i hate.
@MephProduction Explain to me where I compare Cameron to Burton? Explain to me where I say I hate Burton? I never said either, so stop putting words in my mouth. I agree it is the way the story is told that keeps us watching which is why I never said I hated his films. Next time you intend to damage someone's opinion have the decency to get your facts straight.
@Fuzzyfoot88 I quote "If that's the case then James Cameron is a genius with Avatar..." You were applying my opinion to another director ,comparing them, (if it works for one then it must work for another attitude). I suggest you remember what you say in previous posts before tapping away on your keypad.
@MephProduction Wrong, I applied your comment, which was generalizing my comment, to another film, which just happened to be a Cameron film in which I mentioned him by name. We were talking about unoriginal film at that time. Apparently you can't pick up on sarcasm sir. If you didn't notice, I also did the same for Pixar. Does that make me a bad person too?
@Fuzzyfoot88 Exactly my point which you can't/shouldn't do as those film makers make films in completely different ways, Gee whiz But sure whatever you say,
Another amazing tribute. You've captured what I love the most about Tim Burton - his stories errie enchantedness (if that makes sense). I love how he can make a story seem creepy, romantic and errie at the same time. Thanks for sharing.
@kiwiifalling Shouldn't it count though? It was his original idea (and poem) that Henry Selick 100% adapted into film, and Tim Produced and co-wrote it. I could understand that it not be included because he didn't direct it, but in technicality and ownership it belongs to him, and is really his film
@kiwiifalling irrelevant it is HIS film. story, lyrics, production design, characters, casting. Selick didn't cast the film and he was not involved in writing the songs. Not all films are director driven it is common for them to be a producers film. Pee wee for example is NOT a Tim Burton film despite him directing it.
@MephProduction No, that's irrelevant to this particular series of tributes, which is strictly focusing on filmmakers' directorial work. I don't even know why you're nitpicking with ME. This is the video maker's criteria, not mine. "Nightmare" is obviously a "Burton" film to an extent, but it is a common misconception that Burton directed "Nightmare", and many viewers needed clarification.
@kiwiifalling The point had to be made it wasn't a Henry selick film, The Creator of the video did a fantastic job I'm not going to knock it, but they clearly ain't a Burton fan for such a school boy error which is why i wont knock it, i love the video. Many people feel it's not a Burton film because Selick directed it which if anyone knew anything of the subjet knows that's foolish. But we're not all in the know so i'm pointing it out.
@MephProduction That's kind of your arbitrary opinion. Henry Selick directed it and it is as much as his movie as it is Tim Burton's. That said, this is completely meaningless argument.
I'm a fan of your work but this video in particular brought tears to my eyes. I am a huge Tim Burton fan and this showcases just why he's such a brilliant director and why I love him so much. Thank you for this!
@18EPCOT These are just films that Tim Burton directed. He produced and wrote A Nightmare Before Christmas, but he didn't direct it. If it were all the movies he was ever involved with, he would be missing James and the Giant Peach and Nine.
I feel like such a schmuck for having to ask, but which movies are the songs in this video from? I can't seem to place them and the titles are pretty generic. Anyone?
Great job, but yikes to Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland. Love the rest of his work though especially Big Fish, Edward Scirssorhands and Ed Wood.
great job, tim burton is my fav film director of all time, I have all his films, great video, thanks 4 uploading it. even though he didnt direct nightmare, he produced, wrote and created the characters and story for it so it basically is his movie
You have quite the keen eye! Beautiful titles and very intricate keying. You almost made me forget why I turned my back on Burton. Unfortunately, save for Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and Big Fish, I regard his work as little more than eye candy. It's sweet, sugary treat in small doses as quirky shorts like this, but lacks the overall depth and substance of previous filmmakers you've chosen in your series. 14 films later, the novel taste of his early work has given way to one big stomach ache.
Tim Burton is the man who taught us not to be afraid of the dark, bur rather to embrace it. Love it. To Find the beauty in what other would call frightening.
I've had my problems with Tim Burton in the past, but when I see his work put together in such a fashion... that says something. (And I was really upset when I realized the video was ending, I wanted more.)
Great final quote for Tim Burton. I think is another great of your edits. It shouldnt be longer, personaly, I hate edits that go longer than 5 minutes.
@viksam009 The maker of the video is actually from the Netherlands. Typical of non-Americans to make sweeping generalizations about Americans when they don't have a clue.
Although Nightmare Before Christmas was Tim Burton's original idea and he produced it, Nightmare Before Christmas was actually directed by Henry Selick.
PERFECT! although i do agree that we could've used more dialogue. the use of perhaps a song from either Sweeney Todd or Nightmare Before Xmas in that middle section i think would've been more evocative. great job nonetheless!
Captured everything I love about a Burton film, horror, the gothic, comedy, romance, the sense of childlike mystery and lastley, and most important that keen feeling of hope. :)
Incredble- do you reckon you could do Terry Gilliam, Christopher Nolan, Kenneth Branagh, Guillermo Del Toro, Michael Mann, Peter Weir, David Lynch, or Steven Spielberg? With Burton and Anderson, they are my favourite filmmakers and I think your skills would do them justice. Thanks!
@TheGilima20 I agree with this tribute beeinh quite short. Or at least it seems so. But I disagree with the quotes. One of the thing I really like about Kees is that he does not use them. He only puts the video and audio in a perfect combination and sometimes he add´s a quote. And thats how I like it.
@crazy8adv3ntures The Nightmare Before Christmas was directed by Henry Selick. Tim Burton was one of the writers - I think this is just film he directed.
This could have been a lot better, you used a lot of similar scenes from different movies and the music was uninspiring, there was so much material to work with!
Was pretty nice, not your best though, i don't know, i guess i was expecting more visual impact considering that Burton's works always had a great use of photography and a very distinguished used of color and light... I love the final quote though (and is from Big Fish, one of my very favorite movies).
PS: please do one of this great video tributes for the great Steven Spielberg!
@blaiserfilms That's like calling Tintin Hergé's film. I made it clear when I started the series that I would only use feature films directed by the filmmaker.
@keesvdijkhuizen Does that mean you're planning on making [the films of] Steven Spielberg after Tintin and War Horse are released because that would be awesome! Viva la Tintin!
Too short I think. You could've put many more quotes from other films instead of just the mute scenes. I think you played safe when Tim Burton could've been one of your best.
@TheGilima20 YES!! this! Because Burton has 14 feature films his video should have been a bit longer. There is so much more you could of done with the video. His visuals are really top notch but it wasn't shown enough through this. everybody seems to be scared to critique this guys videos and all they ever say is "amazing" or "fantastic." yes they are reallly well made but he's not perfect and he can still learn.
@TheGilima20 I like your 'played it safe'-quote. I actually had a lot of different versions, but they were showcasing my own editing more than Tim Burton's films and that's something I've tried to avoid all throughout the series. I think it's not as simple as to think that every video can be my best, because that depends on a lot of different things. Tim Burton was just too big of a character to work much of myself into and so that's why you might experience it as safe.
OH GOD! I'm tired of your works! They're always bullseye...-_- Pure pleasure to watch.
C'mon give me a hint:
How do you grab every director's "soul" into your series?! Every video matches with the person, more directly, to his "style of filming". And I'm asking HOW?! Are you some kind of genius or something?;>
I see potential....a f**king mountain of potential!!!
I think some people sort of underestimate Tim Burton. They see him as the "creepy" director. But his films are so beautiful and honest and quirky and fun and I love how well you showed that in thi

I fucking love you

This could have been a lot better, you used a lot of similar scenes from different movies and the music was uninspiring, there was so much material to work with!

Was pretty nice, not your best though, i don't know, i guess i was expecting more visual impact considering that Burton's works always had a great use of photography and a very distinguished used of color and light... I love the final quote though (and is from Big Fish, one of my very favorite movies).
PS: please do one of this great video tributes for the great Steven Spielberg!

@blaiserfilms That's like calling Tintin Hergé's film. I made it clear when I started the series that I would only use feature films directed by the filmmaker.
keesvdijkhuizen 4 months ago 32
@keesvdijkhuizen Does that mean you're planning on making [the films of] Steven Spielberg after Tintin and War Horse are released because that would be awesome! Viva la Tintin!

@blaiserfilms That movie just looks like it's made from Tim, he must have had some part it it or the director was influenced by time!

@unconditionalluv huh? he was the producer. he created the whole project!

The quote at the end really sums up this whole series, I think. It's a shame that you're only doing another two. (12 in total, right?)

Too short I think. You could've put many more quotes from other films instead of just the mute scenes. I think you played safe when Tim Burton could've been one of your best.
TheGilima20 4 months ago 30
@TheGilima20 YES!! this! Because Burton has 14 feature films his video should have been a bit longer. There is so much more you could of done with the video. His visuals are really top notch but it wasn't shown enough through this. everybody seems to be scared to critique this guys videos and all they ever say is "amazing" or "fantastic." yes they are reallly well made but he's not perfect and he can still learn.
SpaceboundJoker 4 months ago
