As usual good info on how to keep it cheap and simple. I have a really hard time keeping it cheap....or simple. I use a Zebra 12cm kettle which I love!!!
@markrine79 Yeah brother, I was just talking to a buddy yesterday about camping gear & how we often try to "reinvent the wheel". Good hearing from you!
i've just started getting all my gear together, prepping, camp readiness, bug out gear...whatever...I've done the fosters pot setup, with a heet stove, 4cup/1 cup holder....I'm close to ready just need a spork..and would like to have a fire piston or one of those spark tossers....piston looks easier though....and even got my mms water purifyer and the canteen and cooker..so close
@kobrabushcrafter Sounds good buddy & don't worry about some fancy smancy spork, like I show here a simple plastic spoon will get you by for a while. Light my fire has a good cheap spork as well. Or simply grab one out of your silverware drawer at home. Main thing is to get out & go do it. That's where you'll learn the most about what you need & what you don't. Good luck, stay safe & have fun.
Great review brother! I have always wanted one of those kettles for camp. Much easier than my pot... for base camp of course. Sorry this is so late... YT just put it on my viewer. Hope all is well and hope you all are ready for Christmas!
@hinckleypoland Better late than never brother. YouTube will do that every now & then. I look at it as a treat when I find a video that I missed : )
I've used that kettle as a part of my chuck box in base camp for a while, but it's light enough to backpack with. There's a steel version also that's heavier & it may not be ideal for packing.
First off I'm digging the beard, I love how you added some experience to sides of the chin. Second I noticed a hint of Shug in this vid, great homage to his channel. I like the simpleness of your kit. I'm always looking to make gear easier to carry and simple in design. Good vid.
Right on Brother! A solid little cook-set there... and under $20! I'm with you, it's hard to resist gear... there's so much cool stuff out there, eh? ;-) Take care my friend....
thanks for the boost to the hiking/camping motivation - I know it's excuses, but with the flood and then getting ready for MAG-80, getting out like that has taken a back seat. Hopefully we can get out again soon. Happy Thanksgiving!
@drzmanproject I understand my friend there's only so much time. I've not gotten out for nearly the amount of fishing that I would have liked this year.
Thank you for this option. As I gear up for some awesome winter hiking, I often play and stare, hahaha, with my gear and try to figure out which option to go with. I'm waiting for the first solid snow fall in the mountains. When it hits, a hikin' I will go.
@mizooch70 Hey I like your hiking plan on waiting for snow! There are parts of my loadout that stay the same, but I like to mix up "shelters, cooking & sometimes tools so I can keep leaning & adapt to the environment. Take care buddy
Mess kits always seem to dropping from the sky.....ideal)))))))I have that kettle....yet to bring it out into the pineys. I have some serious beard envy.....or that a two day growth for you? ☺
@shugemery I believe I've seen tarps & hammocks fall out of your sky a time or two : )
No shave November going strong here in the south. Every year I'll grow my holiday beard from Halloween to New Years. This year I have the new addition of some grey whiskers on my chin.
Your hillbilly pot is a home run, but give that kettle some attention in the piney woods. It wants to get out too. All secure
So you're a gear junkie minimalist then, or is it a minimalist gear junkie, I'm so confused. The GSI kettle is just the hottest thing out there Nice vid James....Dash
@mrriprock2 That's a good question, I think I dabble in both worlds of being a gear junkie & a minimalist. Every trip is different. Love that GSI has this halulite line, it's the answer to the increasing costs of titanium. Take care brother Dash
I can tell you are a bushman of the highest order by the way you make multiple uses from each item you take along. I am especially impressed by the manner in which you are shown transporting extra food storage and tinder for fire in your beard. Always thinking. That's what I like about you, brother.
@sabr686 But I would think the r-value of the beard would be negated by the decline in wind resistance. You should consider a vapor barrier for this reason.
Very similar to what I wanted, but now the local outfitters stopped selling that specific model, but now offer a stainless steel version. Great stuff though, may have to order online
Hey Camp! Great job on the mess kit! Under $20 and under 8 oz?? -- Outstanding! Brother, hope you and your family have a joyful and blessed Thanksgiving!
@deepwater1974 Can't take credit for that one, I heard about it from HawkLMT who heard about it from either rainbowhiker or Tinny. Just passing it along. The almonds aren't half bad either : ) Thanks
@CampfireTalk This person heard it from that person that person heard it from this person and before you know it, its been passed along between hundreds...lol.
Really nice, simple kit CT! I like that you made use of the almond can with lid. I super lightweight idea there brother.
