Osibisa On of the most influential brass bands of the 21 st century, producing African criss cross rydims that touches your soul and brings joy to your hearts. long live Osibisa and the people that brought most musical instruments to the planet.
sitting here in emsworth (england) and just discovered osibisa on u tube. thirty five years have just fallen off my shoulders. great to see they are rememberd x
I first heard Osibisa in the early 80's back in Hungary. Their innocent and pure music was transcending all cultural and racial barriers. Thank you for this! :)
what a tremendous, creative, soul touching, organised, blending of instrumentals making a marvellous impact....even as at now and this is way......back in the 70's.Most of all:its from AFRICA. I niinii,SALUTE THE BAND OF OSIBISA.It is really TIMELESS.........
The artwork on the albums is really rare, i feel that old album art is a style of craftsmanship i enjoy... Great soulful jam here, reminds me of one world tribe, the band created by preach freedom that i sometimes am a drummer in at festivals...
The Osibisa Band are a credit for uplifting our people and our families with their great hits and they were so unforgetable when they produce so many of their great songs during the early seventies.
The Osibisa Band brought so many memories amongst young people and they will always be remember for making us so proud of what we are as a people and a family amongst the African clan of this earth.
Criss-cross rhythms that explode with happiness! I remember this very well, but I think you’ve got the year wrong. Osibisa are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. I saw them in concert in 1971, when they were on tour with Atomic Rooster.
Although i am from the caribbean i must pay full respect to this band. They are the greatest African Band to have ever graced this planet .They are truely great musicians with highly skilled instrumentalists. This music is african rock of a very rare breed.
@kendalbeaupierre where do ppl from the Caribean hail from??? I thought u got there from Africa,.,,lolzz. No disrespect but i just caught my self smiling at the way u said it.
itistv - are you by chance familiar with a band called ASSAGAI (Spear)? Appeared in the early 70s - '71 or '72 - comprised of African musicians resident in the UK: Louis Moholo (drums) Dudu Pukwana! (alto) Bizo Mnggikana (tenor) Mongezi Feza (cornet) Fred Coker (guitar) Charles Chonogbo (bass). As far as I know they only produced one amazing album.
God, thanks for finding and posting this! What memories! One of my all time favourite bands - and this track is just brilliant! Criss cross rythmns that explode with happiness! Best played LOUD! If you can't dance to it, you're already dead!
This is an electric sound, it makes you move and move on; swinging, positive and enjoyable! Still can remember the first time I heard it; everyone should start the day with this song; world would look different!
sorry me again. When i saw them there was an amazing, complicated drum solo that went on for AGES. We held our breath for a mistake. It never came. First class.
Does anybody know a song by Osibisa? They sing something like this : " Papa mama rapidu , vaseyea ne buzu " and " A he yea on ana " Please help somebody.
I have been an admirer of Osibisa for years- the music is great, and those old Roger Dean album covers were part of the wallpaper of the seventies. So nice to see and hear this band again.
I remember fisrt seeing them at The Chelsea college of art in 1969 or 1970, not sure of the year.
They played an amazing set with over 30 drums on stage. We had never heard music like this before and it just blew us away. Afterwards myself and my mates all went backstage to chat to the band.
Grrrreat band - but I thought.... the whole Band was visiting their ancestors in Africa and got lost (in the seventies). I´m a little bit confused in the moment!
Saw these guys in the wee hours many years ago ... they followed "Monty Python" at a Brasenose College Summer Ball at Oxford. God I was pissed ... Swiss Marlis are you well? My buddy at the time is now a judge ... yes m'lud and fuck me gently!
Brilliant music mega entertainers, I gate crashed a New years eve party and it was Osibisa providing the music, I am still partying on .... Many Many Thanks.
this is way back when i was in jr.high school listening to this and buying case of beer for $7 bucks and without a ID..4 finger lids ..the good ol daze
Saw Osibisa waaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the late 70s in Sydney. It was one of the wildest concerts I've ever been to! These guys sure knew how to have fun on stage - and make some of the most amazing music to boot!
Me and my friends used to have such great times riding around the northern Illinois countryside smoking weed tripping on acid and drinking hundreds of bottles of miller high life seven ouncers all the time grooving to osibisa on an old eight track
You better open your eyes fully and see my last sentence. The fact is you have misunderstood and misinterpreted my comments. I hold the Osibisa band in highest esteem. The Osibisa band produced so many gems of music using a wide variety of instruments full of rhythm, melody and perfect orchestration with their own style of clothing without bothering about their make up or looks. But their music speaks for them.
Many thanks to itistv for the upload. What an awesome band! It is quite amazing that a group of savage looking musicians has produced this magnificent piece of foot-tapping rhythmic beauty using difficult wind instruments like oboe and trombone. The counter melody by these two insrtuments
during flute recital is simply the best.Guitar play is excellent. The deft fingers dancing on the keys of synthesiser is a treat to watch. Overall a gem of a music.
What do you mean, "savage looking musicians" playing "difficult wind instruments"? Are you saying you didn't think African musicians could play such difficult instruments because they are savages? Is that what you are saying? They were and are a great band. Open your mind a little!
vnr1945 has the usual revealing favourites listed on his profile, top of the list another dancing savage, this time blond, wearing typical tribal costume of pink bikini and Gstring. I bet the foot tapping turns to another type of tapping when vnr1945 appreciates the magnificent rhythmic beauty there.
I never had the opportunity to see Osibisa live nonetheless, their music had great influences on the music I loved and performed way back when ... Thanks for this well crafted post.
Beautiful rhythms that will never date. Oh, the joy i had when buying those beautiful vinyl records with the simply amazing album covers. Must frame and hang them.
First time I heard of them was when I was about 10 or 12 and living in Spain; I remember the flying elephants on the album cover. That stuck with me over the years. I'm 48 now and still LOVE their music. Thanks for the post.
Great Video....I remenber the group from the one concert who gives in Athens (Greece) in early '70s..I was in concert and somewere i have some photos from this concert.
