I'm almost definately sure Itachi's time in the manga is drawing to a close. He over-used his Amaterasu so one of his eyes is already screwed and since Sasuke can overcome the Tsukuyomi with his own sharingan there's not much that Itachi can do...

nooo hes only used it once and that was when sasuke was a little little kid. thats the only time the other time, he used a sharingan technique on kakashi also a 2nd on in the toad place thats and the 3rd one on sasuke in the toad place. hes only used it once throughout the series sooo far

Of course just using the Mangekyo Sharingan a few times wouldn't really hurt, but Itachi was also a child prodigy which means he probably wasn't used to set backs meaning he over used his Mangekyo Sharingan. Despite Itachi being super strong and 10 times as sexy as he is strong (^^ kuku) his eyes still couldn't take the strain.

Because the Sharingan being an eye Kekkei Genkei, your chakra had to have come through optic nerve, to your retina. And because chakra is so strong, and the retina being somewhat flimsy it can cause the retina strain. The normal Sharingan usually doesn't use enough Chakra for this, but the Mangekyo does being at least 10 fold as strong.

ya before the 2 year jump itachi first met kakash iit wasnt activated but now it always is well lets say he had 20/20 visions each time he used mangeyko it dropped 1 so he used it on sauske as a child again on an older sauske in the toad place he used the fire jutsu to get out of the toad he used it on kakashi he used it on kakashis clone so now he has about 15/20 vision and thoes are the ones we know
