The Buddha did not teach Buddhism, he taught Dharma which is universal. Organized religions are loaded with dogma and doctrine. The historic Buddha didn't propound a belief system but rather just a simple and pragmatic way to understand our own suffering so we don't go around creating more suffering. Buddhism is not a religion.
In a way, this video shows a lot of misconceptions on how westerners view the concept of Buddhism. But informative, this video is not save for the one man.

Also, Buddhism does not have a single book that centralizes the concept.
i think the buddha is a personality of god. just like christ. and krsna. buddha is the awakened one. budhism is jsut like christianity or hinduism it teaches how to see the world spiritually. Psychologicaly, to see the world spiritually is to have lose the ego, to be open, vulnerably. psychologically people have a neurosis mostly caused by lifes suffering. theese religions teach people how to perceive suffering as a learning tool, how to accept it instead of perpetuate it.
buddhism is salvation from sufering , through building wisdom through practicing meditaion and contemplation . understanding of cycle of rebirth , and its sufering , every existence is sufering cos impermanence
