I've always been a huge metalhead, but lately I've felt like metal is missing something. It's not doin it for me anymore. That said, I just wanna show some love for The Ruts. I just discovered them a few months ago and it's what I've been searching for all long. And I'm a big Rollins guy so this whole show is just like pure junk food to me. Amazing.
@lodie311 Don't know the DVD but pretty sure it is - during his spoken word tour the videos from the gig got loads of 'hits' . It was a really special night and Rollins was I think pretty touched by the whole thing. Cheers
Ruts 'H eyes' was among my first singles from when I was first buying in 1979/1980 nice try by Rollins and no disrespect but his vocal style is not up to that track, an honourable stand in though and with good purpose..Foxy is remembered fondly...what a superb band The Ruts were.
Good effort Henry but it's the saxophone which gives this song it's punch like neon lights reflected in puddles on a lonely rainy city street at night...
aw com on man this is not even close to malcolm owen...please...wtf is going on...i just want to see malcolm perform it like in my record collection....this guy is no substitute...awful truly awful...
he spoke about this on the last tour in 2008, sadly i have to confess i hadn't listened to the ruts, but did enjoy what was being played before he came on, listneing to him talk about these guys with such passion, its fantastic, you coul not get a bigger fan of 'the music' than henry rollins.
@wordupassholes seen it, i'm amazed by this performance! i just cant believe he seemed to feel like he did a bad job, i could understand him feeling a little intimidated because of all his idols up there with em but everyone did there part and everyone did it good from what i can see.
@NiggaWiddaAttitude I think that's just Henry's self-loathing coming out bro. I doubt anyone felt he did a bad job other than himself, he's simply beating himself up like he always does. He is an awesome dude and I hope I get to meet Rollins someday and tell him from the heart just how much he has done for me and the rest of the world by being the great, albeit wacky, agressive and hardcore dude that he is.
Rollins gets to live out all of our dreams........when he's an old man he can sit in his rocking chair and tell people he sang for the mighty RUTS !
By the way - there's the best guitarist of a generation, playing his last ever gig, and five minutes from death.....and the camera man decides to focus upon Rollins?
I didn't have a lot of choice; I was using a fixed lens and pinned in by a heavy mosh pit with Foxy playing off to the side with Rollins in front of me - I did get more of Foxy in my other vids - or better still buy the official video and you'll some great close ups of the great man!
Yeah blah blah blah. It's you against the world isn't it? If you don't like what's going on in the country, stand up and say it like these performers have been doing their whole careers. And for what it's worth, it's not your point of view because anyone with a half a brain can see they didn't do it for their egos.
Sounds good to me - but Foxy, the guitarist, was dying from lung cancer and passed away a short while later so if there are any short-comings I for one will let him off!

Henry Rollins is a dull, depressing bore.and tribute/benefit shows only serve to benefit the egos of those who perform them and the ageing children, like you, who mindlessly patronise them.
the ruts were easily one of my favorite bands...it's great to see my old friend henry revive these classics. almost brings a tear to an old punk's eye.
Brave of Henry Rollins to step into Malcolm's shoes and revive this pearl of a Punk Classic. Sad the circumstances, I loved this original. signed Old Punk
they were shit hot, fuckin brilliant. Then next year Ruts D.C. at Deeply Vale Festival only 3 weeks after he died but the band still played, that must have been hard . Seen Henry Rollins too, not Black Flag but his talking show in Bristol - laugh? Entranced? Loved it? What do you reckon. All those people were/are fantastic performers.
I know I sound a gert showoff - but I don't care It was all really special and am so glad i seen it.
Hey Bloater999, thanks for this vid and the info. I ordered the DVD after watching this and it is the greatest thing I have ever seen. I will kick my own arse for the rest of my life for missing this gig. I spotted you in the front with the camera/phone too!
Saw Henry last week in Dublin, he was, as always, brilliant. An unrelenting, hard working, genius. Just like any die hard Ruts fan this gig was a dream come true for him. He is , as he says himself, a privilaged fan willing to help a friend. What a decent, selfless hero. Henry is the king of all men.
This is actually a benefit show WITH the surviving Ruts (they asked HR to fill in for the deceased Malcolm). The benefit was for Paul Fox who died a few months ago.Henry kicked ass.....

He didn't take his own life. It was an accidental heroin overdose which often occurs when an addict is trying to come off but has a lapsed and their tolerance is diminished or the heroin is stronger than usual. It's a dangerous game to play.

Thanx Alan for putting this stuff up. I was there & will never forget it. I'm 40 & never saw The Ruts it's a shame that when I did, it was under such sad circumstances. Shine on Foxy
