  • Henry, living out his childhood dream. Amazing!

  • I've always been a huge metalhead, but lately I've felt like metal is missing something. It's not doin it for me anymore. That said, I just wanna show some love for The Ruts. I just discovered them a few months ago and it's what I've been searching for all long. And I'm a big Rollins guy so this whole show is just like pure junk food to me. Amazing.

  • Can this be true??? Two of my favorites on one stage??/ Henry Rollins and The Ruts!!!!!!

  • is this the show he was talking about on his dvd?

  • @lodie311 Don't know the DVD but pretty sure it is - during his spoken word tour the videos from the gig got loads of 'hits' . It was a really special night and Rollins was I think pretty touched by the whole thing. Cheers

  • cheers bloater

  • @tonedial always a pleasure!

  • graet

  • bloater999 screw everyone else I thank you for any video at all of the this amazing time

  • @MSKpurvis Pleasure mate!

  • Wot a night it was!!!!, Such a great gig but so so sad.

  • Ruts 'H eyes' was among my first singles from when I was first buying in 1979/1980 nice try by Rollins and no disrespect but his vocal style is not up to that track, an honourable stand in though and with good purpose..Foxy is remembered fondly...what a superb band The Ruts were.

  • The Ruts! oh yes...

Henry best man for this job by far!

  • Good effort Henry but it's the saxophone which gives this song it's punch like neon lights reflected in puddles on a lonely rainy city street at night...

  • One of the greatest punk gigs ever

  • saw Henry doing a spoken word performance n Brissie a few months ago , great night

love this version of this song

always sad to see another iconic punk figure leaving for pastures new

    RIP Foxy

  • Henry Rollins is hot as fuck and his is a god!!!!

  • rip foxy, from paul and mark.

  • Oh, too cool! Thank you so much!

  • malcoms dead, and that sucks but henry rules!

  • There's like 40 minutes of Henry speaking about the ruts, it's really worth seeing.

  • he spoke about this on the last tour in 2008, sadly i have to confess i hadn't listened to the ruts, but did enjoy what was being played before he came on, listneing to him talk about these guys with such passion, its fantastic, you coul not get a bigger fan of 'the music' than henry rollins.

He is god, in a pair of vans,

  • @wordupassholes seen it, i'm amazed by this performance! i just cant believe he seemed to feel like he did a bad job, i could understand him feeling a little intimidated because of all his idols up there with em but everyone did there part and everyone did it good from what i can see.

  • @NiggaWiddaAttitude I think that's just Henry's self-loathing coming out bro. I doubt anyone felt he did a bad job other than himself, he's simply beating himself up like he always does. He is an awesome dude and I hope I get to meet Rollins someday and tell him from the heart just how much he has done for me and the rest of the world by being the great, albeit wacky, agressive and hardcore dude that he is.

  • Rollins gets to live out all of our dreams........when he's an old man he can sit in his rocking chair and tell people he sang for the mighty RUTS !

By the way - there's the best guitarist of a generation, playing his last ever gig, and five minutes from death.....and the camera man decides to focus upon Rollins?

  • I didn't have a lot of choice; I was using a fixed lens and pinned in by a heavy mosh pit with Foxy playing off to the side with Rollins in front of me - I did get more of Foxy in my other vids - or better still buy the official video and you'll some great close ups of the great man!

  • Can someone upload the original?

  • this is the orginal!

  • thanks for uploading.this is great!

  • Yeah blah blah blah. It's you against the world isn't it? If you don't like what's going on in the country, stand up and say it like these performers have been doing their whole careers. And for what it's worth, it's not your point of view because anyone with a half a brain can see they didn't do it for their egos.

  • wow..heard him talk about this at spoken word in belguim..cant believe its here..beautiful song..i just got my ass handed to me

  • Sounds good to me - but Foxy, the guitarist, was dying from lung cancer and passed away a short while later so if there are any short-comings I for one will let him off!

  • fuck off you spanner - go and see a live band and have some fucking emotion in your heart for an awesome moment and stunning tribute.

  • You're an idiot and old enough to know better. If the band and the fans enjoy it, who the fuck are you to tell them they shouldn't?

  • the ruts were easily one of my favorite bands...it's great to see my old friend henry revive these classics. almost brings a tear to an old punk's eye.

  • ..... a Traffic Island Castaway....

This would have been a massive single had Malcolm not died. Another underrated band imo.

  • Who was playing sax ? Was it Gary Barnacle ?

  • Im downloading this right now

  • Brave of Henry Rollins to step into Malcolm's shoes and revive this pearl of a Punk Classic. Sad the circumstances, I loved this original. signed Old Punk

  • SUPREME.

  • God I wish I'd been there. The ruts were a fantastic and talented band.

  • It was a brilliant but emotional night

  • whoever said punk rock was dead, RIP Foxy & Malcom and hats off to Henry. Love the ruts

  • Ruts = One of the best band in Punk Rock history.

Malcolm Owen was one of my hero. Great crazy genius man! Good tribute and performance of HR here.

  • 24-F-NY-single - MSG me on MSN. ID is in my profile. m

  • you dickhead - rollins was invited by the remaining members of the band to sing, who are you to slate him? fuck off yourself

  • @satanismybrother Good shout fella.

  • Pistols were a boy band, for the conscience of punk you have to look at the ruts.

  • who started it all aSSS HOLE

  • The Ramones?

  • Has anyone got the set list for the Ruts songs they went through that nite? R.I.P. Malcol Owen and Paul Fox.

  • The dvd that's on sale has the whole set captured....

  • yeah i just saw Henry tonight for the Australian leg of the provoked tour and spent a long time talking about the Ruts and this show

  • I Just watched the Melbourne Show of the Provoked tour! man i wish i had've gone it!! that would have been so good!

  • Thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • Pleasure!

  • i just saw HR do a spoken word tonight and he talked a lot about this performance

  • Same thing, had to check it out, Winnipeg show?

  • haha i was there too.

  • How lucky am I? Seen The Ruts '79 with Malcolm

they were shit hot, fuckin brilliant. Then next year Ruts D.C. at Deeply Vale Festival only 3 weeks after he died but the band still played, that must have been hard . Seen Henry Rollins too, not Black Flag but his talking show in Bristol - laugh? Entranced? Loved it? What do you reckon. All those people were/are fantastic performers.

I know I sound a gert showoff - but I don't care It was all really special and am so glad i seen it.

  • Hey Bloater999, thanks for this vid and the info. I ordered the DVD after watching this and it is the greatest thing I have ever seen. I will kick my own arse for the rest of my life for missing this gig. I spotted you in the front with the camera/phone too!

    Nice on mate...

    Nap

  • Pleased to hear I've been of help! If you've got the stamina the other gig to do is the Rebellion festival in August....

If you ever see me at a gig be sure to say "hi"

    Cheers

  • ruts ,awesome band,r.i.p.malcolm owen,never forget you

  • Saw Henry last week in Dublin, he was, as always, brilliant. An unrelenting, hard working, genius. Just like any die hard Ruts fan this gig was a dream come true for him. He is , as he says himself, a privilaged fan willing to help a friend. What a decent, selfless hero. Henry is the king of all men.

  • I'm with you 100% on this. Saw Henry last Sunday in Glasgow. That's why I'm here!

    Nap

  • Every respect to Henry and everyone who helped and performed at this amazing gig it was a BRILLIANT eveing..

  • Looks like he left his horse at the bar!

  • This is actually a benefit show WITH the surviving Ruts (they asked HR to fill in for the deceased Malcolm). The benefit was for Paul Fox who died a few months ago.Henry kicked ass.....

  • God will look after fox and malcolm, what is the next big band? hard to follow but there will be someone (hopefully not on drugs). Thank you for your time gents. from an old damed/ruts supporter (trying to listen to foo fighters and erm.. getting there)

  • SAW THE RUTS BACK IN THE EARLY 80 s a few times ...this is a good cover of shine on me..

  • I'm crying...

  • Rollins talked about this when I saw him in Santa Cruz too... after his story I had to see it. I have the In A Rut album and love every second of it.

  • yukerstein

You were at the show 2 days ago in las vegas?

    As was I!

    Henry is the fucking man.

    Never forget Paul Fox.

  • hell yeah

  • Just saw Henry do spoken word tonight, and he talked alot about this show. He said it was on You Tube, so I wanted to check it out. Thanks for posting!

  • Sad, but not unexpected news, today (21/10/07): PAUL FOX OF THE RUTS DIES AGED 56

"Legendary guitarist, Paul Fox, died at home in Uxbridge at 3AM this morning.

Paul leaves behind his sons Lawrence and William and his wife, Sharon.

    He will be dearly missed."

  • R.I.P. Foxy

    One of the very best

  • Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I am only just learning about this gig. What was the lineup for The Dimmed? They were old tour mates going back to the beginning.

Got to see Ruts D.C. support their album at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC. 1982, I think it was. I have an autographed copy of West One (Shine on Me), the seven-inch. Good for Paul Fox for going out so strong. The Ruts should have easily been as big as the Police. A genuine crime. I'll miss him sorely.

  • "The Dimmed", I assume you mean the Damned?; if so it was the Captain, Vanian, Monty, Pinch and Stu - I've posted some videos from their set too.

There is an official DVD of the gig on the way (not my from the crowd footage!) which will also include a disc of historic Ruts footage.

    Cheers

    Alan

  • sad to hear the news about foxy, i was lucky enough to see the ruts with the late great malcolm owen before he sadly took his own life.

    henry done the lads proud

  • He didn't take his own life. It was an accidental heroin overdose which often occurs when an addict is trying to come off but has a lapsed and their tolerance is diminished or the heroin is stronger than usual. It's a dangerous game to play.

  • Fantastic stuff mate. Just noticed all these videos of yours from the gig and as I wasn't there, this is the next best thing. Wonderful uploads!

  • Cheers - I try my best... Rebellion later this week too!

  • Don't forget your camera lol

  • Never leave home without it!

  • I have a few Ruts up from Rebellion, good quality too.

  • Great night, met a skinny Buster Bloodvester up stairs! Rollins was excellent.

  • wow this is so honourable of a thing to do, respect to henry rollins and to everyone involved in this, hope you all buy the dvd when its out cos this band was part of my/your punk heritage

  • GREAT STUFF ALAN. KEEP IT COMING

  • shivers!!

    great filming!!

    wish i'd been there...

    thx for sharing this!!!

seems like ol' hank did a good job!!

  • Yeah . thanx the film is great , I remmeber seeing someone right down the front holding a camera up all the time! Any chance to getting a disc of the whole thing?

  • Thanks a lot!

  • It was one of the best gigs I've ever been to as well. I dont know how you managed to film from the mosh pit but you did a good job and captured it really well.

Any chance of seeing the Jah Wars footage even if it is incomplete?

    Cheers

  • It's difficult filming at the front, but my camera is very small and I work on the basis that I'm there to enjoy the gig first and foremost and if I manage to film that's a bonus - hence every now and again I lose it a little!

I'll have another look at Jah Wars....

    Cheers

  • OK it's up!

  • SUPREME.

  • Oh my god! I was there too with a couple of mates. We all agreed it was THE most amazing night. I'm 38 years old, and I've honestly no idea how many gigs I've been to in my life. I truly believe this was possibly the very very best. I'm not being dramatic, it really was THAT good. Massive respect to Henry. He was perfect. His words were heartfelt & his angry vocals were unbelievable. He captured the very essence of The Ruts. I hope Foxy had the night of his life. I'd be amazed if he didn't.

  • Thanks for posting

  • Its great to see them re-united altho this was a bittersweet performance - Paul Fox looks happy - thanks again for posting!!!

  • Thanx Alan for putting this stuff up. I was there & will never forget it. I'm 40 & never saw The Ruts it's a shame that when I did, it was under such sad circumstances. Shine on Foxy

  • No problems - I never saw The Ruts at the time either, and I'm, ahem, a little over 40 too.. It was sad circumstances but the gig was one hell of a celebration!
