  • I bet the guy in the Jeep is like "holy crap what's the thing behind me???!!"

  • @rcjames01 The event to be very careful about is racing down the road and coming up behind another car while downshifting and braking hard. If the driver gets "spooked" they can sometimes hit their brakes simply as a fear response. Then one must really hit the brakes in order to avoid something silly. It happens.

  • The Cayman S is about all the car you can use in the US streets.

  • @marky2112 Well.... That's sort of debatable.... I can't imagine using even 70% of the car's abilities without either breaking the law or seriously endangering people. That's why I take mine on the track. So I can explore those upper limits safely and legally.

  • 2:44

    caw caw caw

    cough

  • @Zontalim That's called reversion. The engines is actually sucking air throught the exhaust. This happens when you rev and engine up and slam the throttle plate shut. This results in a vacuum in the intake, so the exhaust side is actually 14.7 psi higher in pressure (at sea level). When the exhaust valves open, air rushes into the combustion chamger through the exhaust.

  • @MikeSouzaYT is that why some cars shoot flames?

  • @MikeSouzaYT I think he was talking about the birds cawing and the guy coughing haha

  • @agcskates You may be right.... And I went on with a long winded explanation..... (smacks head)

  • @MikeSouzaYT hehehehehe don't worry, it happens to the best of us

  • Did you change the whole exaust system or just the exhaust?

  • @mariokart468 No, the headers are stock, leaving the primary cats in place. This is a catback system.

  • What borla model fits a 2003 996? I have high flow cats, just need the mufflers. I love this sound.

  • @Jerkface996 - I don't think Borla offers a system for that car. They do have individual mufflers if you have the skill to assemble a system.

  • You have one bad ass car.

  • The Borla costs around $1,300 at most dealers. I installed it myself. If you had it professionally installed, I'd buget for 2-3 hours of labor.

  • Out of curiosity, how much did it cost for the parts and labor for the Borla to be installed? I ask because I have an '07 Cayman S and am interested in doing this to mine as well. Thanks!

  • Wow, that is a dramatic and sweet-sounding change!

  • farking hell. that's so much better than stock

  • Is the borla XR-1 the same thing as the Borla "Aggressive" system?

  • i want to add this to my car its a little 4 cyl just for shits and giggles but my only concern is that it will idle loudly and sound like a fart can is their away to keep this from happening?

  • Great video. Just can't understand how you could update as 240 resolution. Come on, at least use 480 ;)

  • I have a Cayman S and I really do feel that Porsche made a nice little car but it does sound lame. it seems quite subtle and soft. The Borla exhaust seems like the right way to go however I fear that my neighbours will just hate me. At the moment I roll out of the garage, engine off, in neutral until I hit the street and then start up while rolling downhill. Well, I only do this in the middle of the night so that I don't scare the kids. With the Borla I would have no options at all.

  • sounds amazing, wow, great sound! this Cayman pulls very hard i see! great video..

  • One of the best exhaust notes I've ever heard (the Borla + this car).

  • Does that give you better power too with decreased back pressure?

  • @treevs

Yes. I dyno tested the car before and after. It gained 20 BHP corrected at the crank, or about 15 at the rear wheels. It's really quite noticable, mostly from 5,000 - 7,000 RPM.

  • 1:32 - 1:55. Amazing sound

  • Yeah, what about that queef sound? Is that truly how it sounds or is the vid equip distorting it? I love the sound overall minus the phizzle...

  • @skraudi

That sound is caused by 'reversion'. That's when the RPMs are high, and you close the throttle plate, it will actually suck air into the engine through the exhaust. That makes that raspi sound. It's not as bad as the camera makes it sound.

  • it sounds like a queef when the revs die down

  • I have this car :D

  • sounds awesome dude, sweet ride.

  • This kit sounds great!

  • Wow, the Borla exhaust sounds SO MUCH BETTER than the stock OEM exhaust system. The exhaust placement makes the back of the car look constipated though.

  • borlaaa :)

  • so what my dad drive in a lamborgini

  • capristo exhaust sounds better

  • Borla, # 1 cat back maker bar none.

  • This car sounds naughty, I love it.

  • The borla sounds ideal!! I'm looking to pick up a used low mileage cayman s in the spring, so i've been checking out youtube clips for aftermarket exhaust. I've already done my reasearch on the Cayman S and know how nasty it is!! Motor Trend and Car and Driver had been named it best car for under $100k, and best handling car in the world. Anyways. I noticed you have a similar video showing AWE exhaust on your car.....did you switch? If so, what was the price difference?

  • @drdrave1 I've actually had 3 different systems on my car. The Borla is my favorite in regard to sound, but it is a little on the loud side. I still have it, and look forward to putting it back on.

  • @drdrave1

I've had three systems on my car, because that's how I am.... I still have the Borla, and drop it on the car now and then. It's by far the best sounding.

  • This car has great engineering. During the revs, I did not see the vehicle move or shake at all. Usually, with that much power, you see movement on a car that small.

  • @ranchwagon66

If you watch the tailpipe real closely, you'll see it move a little during the blipping. The entire powertrain is one unit, including the exhaust, and they are isolated from the car through fluid filled rubber motor mounts. Also, the suspension is tight and sport, so it does not allow the chassis to roll from acceleration torque.

  • @MikeSouzaYT using one of the few engine configurations which is inherently perfectly balanced helps too ;)

  • @MikeSouzaYT ouch, that's some bad depreciation right there. why would a cayman depreciate into the 30k range? they're ludicrously expensive new.

  • @TechThem22

Well, ludicrously expensive is a matter of perspective. The 2006 Cayman S base price was $59K. So falling into the mid/high 30s is a depreciation of ~$20-25K (~36%). That's not a huge hit on a 5 year old car (2011s are out now), but it is a huge hit for a Porsche. Porsche's usually hold their value better than this. But the current economic conditions here in the USA are hurting values of all uneccesary luxury spots cars.

  • i hope the cayman depreciates as much as the cayenne so i can get one lol

  • @TechThem22

Values were crashing for a while there, but then they bounced back a little. You can get a nice used Cayman S in the mid $30Ks now.

  • I hate my average income even more now.

  • @nielsboex :D

  • i'm really looking into buying this exhaust system for my porsche cayman s, but on every single site that sells it, including borla.com, it says that this exhaust system isn't legal for highways and public roads, and is only for racing. how did u even get any body shop to install it in ur car? did u just install it urself and u haven't been pulled over for driving with it yet??

  • @SmoothOperator4444

Technically, any exhaust system but the factory exhaust is 'not legal' for street use. This pertains to every car on the road. The EPA laws do not allow tampering with the catalytic converters. So every manufacturer of every aftermarket exhaust system that does must provide this discalimer.

You won't have any trouble getting it installed.

  • @SmoothOperator4444 i've got the AWE exhaust it sound literally the same...maybe even a bit better

  • sounds amazing man props to you

  • aaahhh!! what incredible sound!!!!!

  • sounds fantastic

  • Hm. I'd rather have the boxter. But the funny thing of both those cars is that they're really affordable! And the girls won't notice they're cheap! They don't know shit about our great hobby!

  • Nice harmonics coming from that Borla.

  • Incredible Sound !! I can't believe you actually own this car ... wow it must be so much fun to drive

    my dream car !!

  • @antoine1598

it really is a blast to drive. I consider myself very lucky to own it.

  • @MikeSouzaYT Unless you won lottery I don't call this luck, you worked hard for it and you deserve this car ! I'm 17 and I'm working hard and started saving some money to be able to buy a car similar to yours !! which is simply amazing

  • wow incredible what improvement

  • @surgingpuma

Yes, but with some drivind adjustements. The car can drone or resolate between 2,200-2,800 RPM under load. So you have to keep the load light in this range, or donwshift. I wouldn't recommend this on an automatic shift car.

I've logged about 6,000 miles on mine, including a 1,000 mile trip to Atlanta (from CT) and back. On the highway, it purs like a kitten. It's in the city, in that lower RPM that you have to make sacrafices.

  • @MikeSouzaYT what do u mean when u say "It's in the city, in that lower RPM that you have to make sacrafices."?? do u mean in the city u have to drive in lower-than-normal gears or higher-than-normal gears??

  • @SmoothOperator4444

Chose a higher gear to keep the engine out of the 2,200 - 2,800 range.

  • Terrific sound. When you took off from the yield, you might as well have been at Le Mans. Let me guess, New England? Conn?

  • @stableshadow Yup... Good guess.

  • @MikeSouzaYT I used to run my 944 on the back roads of Greenwich and New Canaan. Grew up there.

  • even the factory exaust sounds great!

  • Is there a difference between a flat-six, straight-six and a 6 cylinder or is it the same thing with different names?

  • Yes, very big fundamental differences that will make them sound different too.

  • @PS2Gameplays hahahahhahah!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @renegades9699 what's so funny?

  • @PS2Gameplays bro if your gonna watch videos about cars at least knwo the difference between a flat motor an inline motor and a V motor. major major major differences

  • @renegades9699 Flat-Six, Straight-Six and a 6-Cylinder are not a V6.

  • the car sounds good stock but add a Borla exhaust and WOW!!!

  • when the video started off I thought I was already listening to the borla, and I was impressed haha. Then the actual borla started and I was really impressed haha.

  • A very nice sound, loud, deep but quite neutral! everything I like!

  • far far away from ferrari and lambo sound

  • Cool.... You couldn't have provide a better compliment. If my flat 6 Porsche engine sounded like a V-12 Ferrarir I'd be worried I want it to sound like a Porsche. Not a Ferrari, Lambo, Mustang or Corvette.

  • @MikeSouzaYT hahahaha ! there's no replacemant for porsche exhuast

  • @denissianto cuz thats what he was aiming for? not. my opinion this is the perfect sound...the flat 6 with the borla gives a beatiful sound when ur behind the car :) well made video comparing the two. :)

  • @denissianto Far far away from lambo and ferrari prices to ,It sounds good for what it is. u don't compare VW's whit jaguar's either or do you?

  • love that sound!! one of my fave cars of all time!!

  • BEST MUSIC IN A YOUTUBE VIDEO AWARDED TO MIKESOUZA - Fabulous job on this. Best comparison video I have seen. Just got a 2011 Boxster Spyder and shopping an exhaust upgrade. Your video sealed the deal. Was considering Tubi or Copristo. But after see/hearing your vid I am going Borla. Any thoughts on pairing with cat free headers?

  • as its driving away and back sounded beautiful. good job on that cayman

  • germans build the best cars omg ...

  • A just so you know, at 1:38 I got a bit of a chubby, that sounds excellent!

  • Love the sound man, nice shiften as well, nice to see that the porsche is getting used properly.

  • Wow, quite a big difference. The race exhaust sounds fantastic!

  • Like both of them!Nice car!

  • DROOL... Imagine with a Turbo on it too...!!

  • sounds nice dude!!

  • sounds amazing!!

  • Sounds great man, the XR1 mufflers are awesome. Even though it's a straight-through design they managed to make it sound clean with minimal drone at cruising speeds.

  • Sounds mint but I bet the drone and loud sound gets old in the cabin after a while

  • hey how much does this system cost?

  • I like the second one better ! =D

  • ,':) sounds NICE!!

  • why do we hear the exaust when he is like a mile away

  • That sounds really nice! The best exhaust system for a Cayman because it's not obnoxious, and it still sounds like a flat 6.

  • doesnt sound good, sounds and looks cute

  • 1.37 sounds like "goodbye looser" :D

  • this is an unusually well made video. good job. nice car too. sounds fantastic.

  • @rkjpsn Thank you....

I have no affiliation with Borla. I've actually tested several exhaust systems for this car. This was my first test, and a very enjoyable one.

  • very very nice!

  • i put one on my civic only because its suppose to increase gas Mileage and performance. the fumes supposivly circulate, double back to the engine and so so

  • But, can I get a Porsche that moves like that and is totally silent? That would be cool. Like a low flying UFO.

  • the best exhaust comparaison i've seen.

    and what a sound!!

  • k ty

  • That is one BAD ASS car. That exhaust is music to my ears.

  • can you put this same part on a boxter s?

  • Yes, it will fit a 987.2 Boxster or Boxster S, 2007 & 2008. It may fit the 2005 & 2006, but I'm not sure. Check the Borla website.

  • @utuberevlimitracing i think so because the boxter is the convertible version of the cayman

  • Yes. This system will fit a 2006-2008 Boxster or Boxster S.

  • love it. i really need to get aftermarket exhaust for my 08 boxster s

  • Man, that Borla sounds fantastic!

  • Borla seems to be one of the better exhaust for this Euro Car....surprising great on her!

  • nice heel and toe downshifting.....i see your a true enthusiast!

  • The fact that you noticed suggests you are too. :-)

  • @MikeSouzaYT .....if you ever come down to westchester a bunch of my freinds and i meet up once in a while....a bunch of really fun fast cars...

  • Westchester as in White Plains, NY area? I use to live in Port Chester, NY a while back :)

  • when do u use your heel and when do u use your toe?

  • SWEET

  • The stock sounded awesome just like the borla exhaust.Nice car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is this in connecticut?

  • Yes

  • i just jizzed in my pants

  • Sounds aggresive and brutal, very good exaust!!!

  • it would have been funny as hell if when you came back from your lil joy ride that your camera was stolen. cause if i saw that on the side of the road it would have been mine. no givesbackies

  • :-) I was a little worried about that. But there are two things that put me at ease. 1. This is a very nice area. 2. People are totally unconscious when they drive. I bet no one even noticed the tripod and camara.

  • @MikeSouzaYT

I'm certainly unconscious when I drive. That explains the pillow in my BMW.

  • 3. You were driving a badass Cayman S... you would've caught them :)

  • I dont care about pks , this car rocks !!

  • What is 'pks'?

  • PK= Horsepower

  • that sounds sexy as hell

  • i have a question, a stupid one i guess..

i have seen a few vids in which when the cayman starts very fast the stock exhaust wobbles. i suppose (and hope) this does not happen with the Borla right?

    1:35 indeed! oh yeah!

  • Well, actually. It's not really the exaust that's moving. It's the whole powertrain. The engine, transmission and exhuast are one unit connected to the chassis through rubber mounts. So when you really load the engine, the whole assembly can and will move a little.

I'm sure there are some exhaust systems that are moving relative to the powertrain. This one does not. It's very solid.

  • thanks alot for the answer, it really helped :D

  • OMFG 1:35 i´m gettin HORNY!!!!

  • Whoa! That seems so strange to hear a Porsche sound like that! Sounds fantastic!

  • never been a huge fan of the cayman... but with that borla exhaust, it sounds damn good.

  • wow they both sound sweet, i like the borla tho alot

  • Considering getting this over the M3.

  • M3 would be more practical, this would be more fun.

  • I'd agree with JackMitchell123. I say, go test drive each extensively. That will make it more clear which is right for you. They are very different cars.

  • me too heh

  • I would have the same problem. M3 has some practical points with usable rear seats, bigger boot and genius engine but everything I have read unanimously say the Cayman is a brilliant all around driving machine and will put much more powerful cars to shame on track/road due to pure driving dynamics.

  • I agree. You'd be amazed at what 300 hp can do in this package.

  • wow sounds amazing im begining to get tired of my car. how much did that exhaust cost you ?

  • I got a pretty good deal on it. I paid about $1,000. I bought it from a friend, new in the box, never mounted or used. I was given to him as a gift and he didn't want it. You can get this setup from several sources between $1,350 - $1,500.

  • these prices are all american right ? well if so i think i might just make the trip down there and get it all done. parts and things are much cheaper in the states unfortunately...

but have a merry christmas !

  • I like the idea of the Cayman......the fact that the 911 has most of the weight in the back always kind of scared me off.......this mid-engined arrangement sounds like a better way to go.

  • In the right hands, the 911 is an amazing platform. The Cayman is faster in amature hands, and even intermediate hands. You should see all the Caymans at the PCA track events and watch them chase down 911s. Look at some of my recent vids from Limerock.

  • faaaaaarrrrrrkkkk

  • bellissimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I dont care what people say about the cayman s, its a badass car!

  • @streetfightking88

Cayman > 911 Car and driver 2009 drivers car of the year, watch vid, reviewer even admits that it drives better than any 911 even in its standard non, S form.

Much better car technically speaking, except engine power, and better looking too.

Axe the 911 and boost the cayman up

911 is the caymans only obstacle to supremecy hahaha(evil laugh)

  • That car is not slow as shit and is a great driving experience! That exhaust note sounds pretty clean. Is that with catback only? or full exhaust (headers and back)? Do you guys offer a set of equal length tuned headers?

  • I removed the bonehead comment about the car being 'slow'. Just wanted to say so here so people don't think you're crazy.

  • This is a catback system only. I wasn't comfortable or ready to change the headers. (Check Engine Light Issues).

I don't sell or make these products. Just play with them. :-)

  • woah it sounds so much better

  • I got a question. Is this exhaust legal. because on the Borla website is says its not. But i guess you didn't get stopped by the cops yet.

  • cops don't give a shit. loud exhausts fall into the same category as loud sound systems.. it's very rare that you'll actually get pulled over for either one. that porsche sounded fucking amazing tho.

  • awesome sound!

  • my god...that exhaust sounds sooo much meaner!!! i love it!!

  • Something doesnt sound right just before is goes back down to idle after reving.

  • its just what happens with most exhaust....accept it :p

  • Yes, that is often reffered to as Reversion Gasp. When you rev an engine up like this, then slam the throttle body closed, it will suck air from the exhaust. A straight through system like this will emit a gasp under that situation.

  • so much better

  • Sounds so good at 1:30

  • hella fake

  • You think I fabricated it?

  • Video well done!

  • I may gonna order for my Cayman that one!!

Don't think gonna be alloud in Switzerland, but who cares....:D

  • g'damn! that sound is awesome!

  • faaaaaaaaaaantastic. That sound is amazing.
