John Myung is my second favorite member. Partially because he's Korean and I am too =_= but also it's because he's quiet. Like he's the most mysterious person in the band and every "normal" thing seems to be out of the norm for us to see him do.

He's also one of the most amazing bassists I've ever heard.

Dream Theater is just the greatest! Compared to the other members of DT I would put Myung last but hest still one of the top bassists in the world. In his originals....he has A LOT OF STYLE and just an incredibly jazzy/cool sound .. Dream Theater is art...They all belong in a top ten of their instrument....actually labrie, rudess and petrucci belong in top 5. THe man can belt a fuckin soprano G sharp with the power of an opera singer and do every style under the sun and still gets hated.

What are you talking about?! please do your research before commenting on stuff like that. At one point in his life Labrie's range was at least up to a soprano Bb (Bb5)!!! If you think that after listening to Learning to live and that F sharp, that you've heard some high notes- you haven't heard anything! In classic dream theater that F sharp gets hit ALL THE TIME.....more recently I'm talking about the G# from a cover of cemetery gates which proved that Labrie still had those notes around 2004!

They are all great musicians and have alot of jazz techniques in their music. But to me it still "sounds" horrible. So i guess my point in all of this is that it's just my opinion.

I think they're all great musicians, yea grant it that rudess has gone through julliard and played with the dregs and tons of bands and is just a prodigy of a musician, jp, jm, and mp are all fantastic. ok they didnt do the julliard thing but they're educated musicians, they understand music, and the can make musical sense when playin all of the insane time changes and counter rythems blah blah...point is is that, they're all fantastic and you need all of them to make dream theater. even james!

Well the keyboard player RUdess went thorugh Juliards gifted childrends program then continued his musical education as an adult so obbiously he is quite good. As for Petrucci if you have only seen a few of his solos it is easy to dismiss him as a shred king but if you familarize yourself with his work he is actually much more he is a G3 standard and educated at Berkley. I just think that Portnoy and the bassist are quite a bit below Petrucci and Rudess.

It's not the bass he's playing, it's him who's playing it. Find a bass that works for you. Yamaha basses are good but his are made by hand and customized so they're aren't like the kind at the store. Get one you like that feels good for you. Don't worry at all about looks or color just feel and sound.
