  • calm seas, yet slow uprisings below it. A Yin and Yang, a climactic buildup. Gosh I miss sex in the 70s and early 80s before Disco arrived. What this song did in college. Just snapped me back to my meditative and more peaceful moods. Wat Thai on sunday for a refreshing does of buddhism too. Thank you for posting this. One of the girls I hung out with in college exposed me to JLP.

  • One of the best electric violin players i know. His music and fantasy making music is fantastic.

    Rob

  • In case it hasn't been posted here yet, Ponty is touring with Return to Forever and the concert date were just announced. You can go to Return to Forever's web site for dates.

  • The tune sounds a bit like the ending if a Hendrix track - nice.

  • I seriously wanna know who in the fuck had the gall to dislike this.

  • @burningrob Probably some dweeb I pissed off on some other video

  • The 70's were great for all kinds of music!

  • @poppa8169 That's for sure, especially Jazz Fusion and Prog!

  • You stupid oafs, you're just yesterday's rains mushrooms...grow up...and bloom for other's beneifits...before you make comments?

  • @zurendranmennon Go fuck yourself you ignorant and inbred moron.

  • jean is great, i can listening at his music all day. i think he's the best mood string man ever. love you jean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey Karl, I just wanted to let you that I sent your Cosmic Messenger vid to Jamie Glaser and Ralphe Armstrong...that is an awesome vid!

    Thanks for posting man!

  • haha. only a matter of time before someone connected the two.

  • @kelamuni They do suit each other don't they?

  • LOL.I used to walk about the house going EEYAAAEEYAAHEEYAAAEEEYYAAAEE.Imitating JLP's phase shifted violin.

  • @gebass6 Haha, nice!

  • Speechless!!!!

  • Still blows my socks off!

  • @poppa8169 Mine too!

  • Now, this music is `Spiritual`! This is what I want at my funeral! Gesundheit.

  • @terrygand You're welcome!

  • I have always Loved this song, and the Video is a fine addition Thank you!

  • @clairphonic Your very welcome, and thanks to you for the nice and kind comment.

  • Ponty blows the roof off the house, no?

  • @Countrychiddler Definitely!

  • @karlmoles65 One of the first to incorporate synth sequencers into fusion jazz. and take the electric midi violin with it. Introducing a world of emmense vibratory electronic arpeggio sweeps worthy of cosmic interest.!

  • @Countrychiddler You ain't just whistlin Dixie.

  • Newday you don't know me vewwy well. First off: I instinctively gravitate to an artist's LEAST popular tracks - I don't know why, been that way since I've been listening to music. And I have a Jean Luc Gem for you: "Art Of Happiness". This thing spins heads no matter what event I play it at.

Know who Paul Davis was? "Cool Night", "Do Right", stuff he was known for? Well, "65 Love Affair" does for me what none of his other works does. Weird. Guess I was born *different*.

  • @Zickcermacity I'm often that way myself. I pretty often like a band or artists lesser appreciated works.

  • @karlmoles65

Cool! Still, I can't understand a Paul Davis anthology without '65 Love Affair on it. That song charted higher and stayed longer than the other ones I mentioned back in 1981.

  • Considered to be his best. For those who like it, I won't disagree, but allow yourself to test the whole body of work. The best place to sample is the 'Le Voyage; CD, but he did play on another label as well, that is hARDER TO FIND. tHE cd 'Civilized Evil' meets, &, possibly exceeds the bar set here. Check it out & enjoy.

  • @newday613 I have eight of his albums. This is actually yes, my favorite song from him. Civilized Evil I do not have however. Think I'll check it out though. Thanks.

  • One of his best........Enigmatic Ocean.....and it's 34 yrs. old. Still amazes......

  • @i40gordy That it does

  • I have this in album, cassett and cd, I had it in 8 track but, you know 8 tracks!

  • Jean Luc played with Zappa, look up Kong Kong and

    watch?v=pXkkcr7ABjo&feature=related

  • @TheSeekerDude he was great with Zappa too

  • From 46-47 sec it sounds as though someone lifted the needle from the record! Anywho - if you want a good intro to Jean Luc Ponty - THIS song is it. Anyone else have a Jean-Luc Ponty favorite they cannot live without?

  • @Zickcermacity I'm sorry I was kinda inexperienced when I made this

  • @Zickcermacity "Renaissance" from his "Aurora" album. Cant find it on here but there is some good versions by his Renaissance trio

  • @Zickcermacity Cosmic Messenger is still considered JLP's signature piece, but on the CD 'Civilized Evil', try 'Once A blue Planet', 'Forms of Life', & 'In Case We Survive' are excellent choices. Also, " A Taste For Passion" is also a good choice. Examine the titles & the sequence of the songs for the theme for ' A Taste For Passion'.

  • @newday613

Not to mention "Art Of Happiness" is not even posted to YouTube - and it's on the Cosmic Messenger title!

  • I always felt this song would be perfect for a long journy (trip) montage in a movie.

  • @googoobh Same here, that's why I made it

  • NOT OF THIS PLANET - Galactic Music! Very cool video from 2001 Space Odyssey, would have made the movie even better !

  • @lgbm777 Thank You

  • Its sad theres only 5821 views on this amazing song. Ozric Tenctacles and Jean Luc Ponty our by far the first jam bands to bring about the new era of music like sts9, shpongle, etc.., simply outdoes anything you hear these days. 10 out of 5 stars all day. Thanks for the upload!

  • @faitholi Thank You for the comment!

  • I saw the Jean Luc Ponty Cosmic Messenger Tour at The Mill Run Theater in Schaumburg, IL in 1978...it was amazing!

  • OMG so lucky!! I was 12 in 1978

  • I was only 15 in 1978, but I had friends had who were 17 and drove. I waas a bit ahead of my age musicly because I started playing guitar in 1973 at the age of 10.

  • That's pretty awesome!

  • I used to play this for the rock and rollers and the jazz fusion people back when this came out, yeah I'm old...

  • You and Me both

  • @xtranet1 I saw the Jean Luc Ponty Cosmic Messenger Tour at The Mill Run Theater in Schaumburg, IL in 1978...it was amazing!

  • i just discovered this guy's music after listening to him with the mahavishnu orchestra and its some of my favorite music now, what are some top albums you'd recommend of ponty?

  • The album this came from is easily His best. I'd also recommend "Enigmatic Ocean"

  • Imaginary Voyage

  • I know one of his masterpieces is Computer Encantations for World Peace. His music will expand your mind. Welcome!

  • Taste of Passion and Civilized Evil.....

  • Try anything you can find, he even plays African music, and played with Frank Zappa and George Duke usering in the jazzfusion an age in the 70s that use all intruments including Stanley Clark at lead bass. Return to Forever will give you satisfaction.
