  • So, why worry about what will happen in the future. It's like going to Disneyland, and worrying the day will end. IT WILL... But when you're there experience it to the fullest. While you are living. Be kind and compassionate. Be at peace with all that is around you... when the time here in life is over, you can look back and say: "Well done! I have lived a good life..." Then you'll be ready to move on.

  • @KatchAFlick96 thank you

  • @Redeemer10000- Hello there. I am a Buddhist monk in La Puente, CA, and I wanted to answer your question. First off you need to come to terms with the fact that all beings must die. It is a fact of nature. The Buddha taught that old age, sickness and death happen to ALL of us. To be afraid of the inevitable is irrational... Come to that realization. Secondly, we (me, even as a monk) can NEVER know what will happen when we die...

  • you are such an inspiration

i hope you live a long i time and touch many hearts

  • @REDEEMER10000 watch from 15:00 to 20:00, it doesn't answer your question directly, but it tells you how to answer your question, If you would like me to answer it still, message me, and I will try to give the best answer I can.

  • I liked this talk a lot but I was wondering about how I should deal with fear of death if I do not believe in reincarnation.

  • Haha, if you don't meditate, you'll burnnnn for eternity.

  • Thank you!

  • But seriously: his talks are amazing. I could agree with almost every word he says. And generally I'm doubting Thomas about teachings so I rarely experience that. But this man is one of the best teachers on youtube. I hope more people will watch this one in particular. Especially nowadays.

  • If I listen to his Kung Fu story often enough will I also be granted dying hung in my closet after a breathplay wearing suspenders? :D

  • I just realize my wrong perception of life after watching this video. Thank you very much for teaching me to the right path. Thank for the joke as well.

I have a question, can i have excitement as well as peace at the same moment without fear in between ?

  • Fear Not, i am Ganga Ram and our future will be BLISS if you want it to be, Jai Buddhism, Jai Compassion, Jai Love, Jai Ma =D

    Thanks for the Laughs ;-D

  • I feel a profound, unusual sense of peace because of this video. Thank you very much. :)

  • awsome video thanks for posting.

  • Awesome perspective! Kudos!

  • It's amazing to hear Ajahn Brahm say that the emotion of 'fear' is not necessary at all, and when you think about it, it makes complete sense! I wish everyone watching this video to overcome their own fears.

  • 21:45 humans are idiots

  • yes, the attitude of fearlessness.there is also of internal search.

  • Some problems I have:

I though Buddha didn't believe in Reincarnation, because it is something we cannot experience or be shown. (Hardly important)

This acceptance of the "now" and being "gentle" with whatever situation seems to be pacifist in nature. Pacifism can be seen as a way to control people, so that the powerful can become more powerful.

I really enjoyed the whole talk though.

  • @slaughtz Violence can obviously be seen as an extreme way to control people as well and happens all throughout our world. Obviously we cannot be "gentle" in every situation but the effort to have a gentle attitude towards every situation is key. Reincarnation is entirely a personal belief, don't just believe things because someone tells you too, you have to reflect on these things and see them for yourself, don't just blindly believe. I enjoyed this talk as well, take care.

  • I love listening to Ajahn Brahm's teachings. They are so wise.

  • love it ,great talk helped me alot, was kind of down when I started listening , but feel much better now. thank you are you by any chance in perth scotland (being a scot myself I was just wondering

  • @peggy2002z No, Perth Western Australia. But doesn't matter!

  • love it ,great insght

  • inspiring...love it !

  • It's like that scene in the scene in that Eddie Murphy movie: "Why do we all love destruction and are so bored with creation?" Great talk!

  • As a severe anxiety sufferer, this video has helped me a lot. After an hour of watching, i realized, afterward that i had relaxed for an hour and felt so much better. I want more of that peace now!

  • @redkat100 hi there can i add you as friend..we have thesame condition

  • great wisdom and humour :-)

  • great :)

  • he's very queitly spoken, & gental.

i don't know anything about buddahism, but, i think he is kind.

  • If you worry about it too much it will happen....

Worry about falling in the 'acid' you will fall into the 'acid'.

Does this mean that if you worry about, let's say, having a stroke or a heartattack

    you will get one.....?

  • Ajahn Brahm is the man!

  • "Fear" is the wrong word.... Respect things, and take care of your mind. I have been guilty of letting anxiety take hold and as Ajahn says this is just the way of the lazy mind. People can learn so much from this Guru!

  • Fear is good. But too much of it is disastrous.

  • if you watch a little further you'll hear him talk about not having ANY fear... instead... it is respect for things that have power not fear of them that will allow us to look at things as they are.

  • I totally agree with you. I just realized that fear is actually self reinforced thinking. And it comes from desire and ignorance.

  • exactly... fear seems mostly to be knowing that there is a possibility that the things we desire might not happen.. the more you accept a current moment the more you can live without fear

  • Thank you Ajahn Brahm for everything you do, you've created such a profound change in my life and I'm sure the lives of those around me.

  • @brynnbateman I THANK YOU TOO

  • So beneficial. Thank you for doing what you do** Such empowering and truly truthful stuff eh! Be still xx

  • Thank you for this useful video.

This interesting talk has grounded and encouraged me and made me think of others.

  • True, fear can control you, and it is used as a means of control. I still find myself scared sometimes when I meditate because I'm afraid I'm going to hell. Sometimes I think I should get rid of my Buddha statue, because I'm scared I'm going to hell. What's up with that?

  • Devilockjesus...........Have you listened to the YouTube speaker - Ravi Zacharias.....who grew up in India and has ...........this idea and many others talks (listen to his Q&A University discussions)..........which I feel would BETTER explain what it is - you are looking for!.....let me know what you Think~

  • you were brought up as a christian? the fear was put into you at a young age, it sticks more because you were more impressionable then.

  • Devilockjesus The Buddha statue is to remind us the purity of the Buddha and with that in mind, we hold him as an example to do good. I felt the same way you feel before and I decided to light candles, burn incense stick and offer flowers' The candle is to show us the way, the fragrant of incense stick is to remind us the good qualities of the Buddha and the flowers is to remind us that everything is impermanence. We learn to appreciate things, people around us and practise hard for liberation.

  • It's because of your old conditioning. Don't worry about it much. If there is a creator who truly knows your life, then he will know why you chose this path instead of your former one. He will know that it wasn't for selfish reasons, but rather a search for the truth.

And if he doesn't like you searching for the truth, it's worth going to hell isn't it? :)

  • Hmm, God will send you to hell because you listen to Buddha's teaching? Guess too late for that now isn't it? I want to go to hell. Why? If i go to hell, then someone else will go to heaven.

  • @Ashitanoyuki

Nah its actually the ones who threatens others to hell that usually go to hell. lol They forgot that one corner-stone phrase of their religion: ''Judge Not!''.

  • Cant I download this video

  • Namaste :-)

  • Wonderful as always

  • Wondreful!!!!!

  • I was not sure at first. Started very serious, flat affect. Oh my false expectations. Great teaching, wonderful sense of humor, lovely enlightened teaching!

  • Fear!!

    Good talk!

  • Great talk, as usual. :-) But in my view it's not wise to say that our economy won't have any major problems. According to my research about peak oil, climate change, soil erosion, deforestation, pollution, population growth, species extinction and general "resource" depletion, our "civilization" is truly going down. And not just our "civilization" is at stake, but the planet's whole ecosystem is threatened by our activity. There are many evidence that this way of economy cannot be sustained.

  • If you wish to hear a Buddhist lecture on such topics, seek out books written by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

  • Thanks. :) So far I hadn't got the opportunity to read any of his books, but from his talks and other writings it is quite clear that he understands our present crisis very well. He even wrote to KFC regarding chickens. To be honest, he is the only living Buddhist teacher I know whom work I would not consider unjustly anthropocentric. This is a tough think to say, I know; but this is what I must say to clearly express my present feelings and understanding.

  • Someone asked Buddha why he did not want to stay in his three mansions that was given by wealthy merchant and kings. and instead stay in the forest. The Buddha answered that he wanted to care for the future generation. So to say that economy advancement that cause over development is bad is true

  • Thank you for uploading this lecture.

  • Wonderful talk, self-fulfilling prophecies surely are odd creatures.

I do think that sports and good nutrition have very significant effects on body and mind though. Surely the attitude towards life is crucial, but there's no reason not to improve one's well-being where it's that easy.

  • Ajahn Brahm speaks to me the most out of all of the teachers on this channel.

  • i liked the asian guy that filled in for him a few videos ago. he was talkn about how that women died and stuff. he was kinda skinny.

  • Thanks for great video:)

    Namaste

  • Thanks for uploading

  • Thank you so much. Every time I hear you speak I feel uplifted. Don't stop while you are able.
