My main concern as a 'hobbyist' indie game developer is I just don't have the time to pay attention to things like this, sure I read them in news feeds, but that's as far as it goes. I barely have enough to time to spend on developing my game as it is.
What is your advice to someone, like me, who wants their games to be taken seriously but doesn't have time to do all these extra things?
1. Do you write your own engine or use a pre-existing one? If you write your own, how much have you been able to re-use between your games?
2. How did you go about learning all the skills needed to produce quality games by yourself. I'm a college student in Computer Science looking to create a game dev club and was wondering where you got your knowledge. Books? Videos? Mentors? School?
Thanks for doing this and I'm excited for your upcoming videos.
Have you taken any steps to make your games more cross platform friendly? Did you think about other platforms while coding your game to make porting easier? Do you have any plans to port your games? Oh, and thanks for doing this series, really digging it so far.
I'm interested to see what happens to the prices outside of the US if this happens. Where as $1, $3 and $5 for a game is simple, here in the UK it would be £0.63, £1.89 and £3.15 and that doesn't have the same ring to it.
@cantstraferight That's a really good point. I imagine it would follow the same convention as WP7 apps, so 1 USD gets listed as 0.79 GBP and 0.99 Euros. Presumably devs would get a cut of the corresponding increased (or potentially decreased) amounts? Time to start catering to the European fanbase!
As a programmer, my biggest question is how do you stay motivated to complete a whole game? It's easy to be excited about about starting a project, but too often the excitement fades after you've spent a few weeks working on it and realize what a daunting task it is. By the end of the month, after you've hit multiple snags, it's hard to stay focused and keep making progress. Is there a system you employ to keep yourself going?
I have always been interested in the market side of indie development. You can already see that with the recent price drops on games like Soulcaster and how that has affected sales. I agree with you in saying that it could possibly mean a more unified system, but I am not sure if I want my credit card attached to my xbox account with all of the recent hackings and such
How do you defrost your toaster's strudel icing?
Do you prefer when you cut off the nib for the icing to be really thin? or Thick?

1. What program do you use to create art assets for your games?
2. What is your opinion on the UDK and Unity game engines
3. Is any coding language "better" than the others? If so, which would you recommend being essential to learn
4. I love your face (not a question)
