  • great video :)

  • Thank you ,this helped :)

  • tom cook i liked your video i have ben watching videos on movie making you have good things to say thankyou

  • Hey, thanks, man. Very helpful. Don't forget about the fact that there are many very young and ignorant people who won't actually ever become real filmmakers who only watch youtube videos about making films and then leave comments like "YOU SUCK" or random things about your hair....strange. Thanks again for the help.

  • Hey buddy, your advices are interesting, thou it would be useful to me if you mention or write the specifications of your cam, the same you show in the video. One more thing, at the moment to pick up a camera. What features or, in other words what should I look for in a camera in order to be good for my filming project as a beginner. Talking about specifications like pixels, resolution, etc. And what "cheap" good ones do you recommend?

  • this helped a lot m8, thanks 5/5

  • stop trying to be funny and stop taking DRUGS

  • Don't pay attention the those Internet douchebags. You can really tell you have a passion for filmmaking. Your advice was great. Thanks for your input.

  • lol... you... cool :P

  • dude your funny LMAO

    good tips though thx!

  • YOU SUCK!

  • If your videos reflect who you are, then you must be 100 feet long. Ten minutes? Seriously?

Also, I agree with everyone else who said you need a haircut. All it does is take away from your message.

  • goood

    5\5

  • Wow that was really helpul!

  • thats great but you don't talk about you , who you are : realisation or cameraman or i don't know!!!!!

  • I have always found that the shorter, and more action-packed the films are, the more my audience likes them! Get rid of all the fluff!

  • thanks, ill start recording with my canon XL1. but i already made a video before i got it. but i made a short film u can check it out if u like

  • Ooh you've got a canon XL1, I read that was good for indie filmmaking :)

    that really helped

  • it was a cool video for someone like me who's just starting on shorts. i wanted to know more about other aspects like what type of story to choose? how can one save money & time while filming? and do you think, like Shekhar Kapoor said shorts are where the future is?

  • great tips

    thank you very much

  • great video, been trying to come up ideas for a five minute short, it's really hard, your comments were spot on about giving it your best, I'm going to subscribe.

  • Thank you for the tips, it really opened my eyes, especially the coffee thing

  • excellent video

  • Thanks, buddy. I'm making one right now.

    Check it out!

  • Just thought I'd post my short film as a response to your video (waiting for your approval). Just thought it'd be a great chance to show people what I've done with a crew at Film School...technically my first shot film. The idea wasn't overly expanded enough for the short running time as it clearly leaves many things unanswered (which isn't a bad thing), but I focused more on the themes and the tone, especially in the framing and the performances. Tell me what you think :)

  • O god he is got a boring voice!!!!!

  • Just watch the video with the volume down.

    Make films young lad!

  • Petro,

I have watched the film, I want to be critisicing but the tips feel a bit obvious and the content is a bit boring, did you edit it?

  • Was English a sceond language to you? because the grammer and punchuation in that last comment was a bit of a minefeild (and this is coming from someone who has dyslexia)

Ok, so the content is a bit obvious to you, maybe because you already know this. But I made this video to answer someone's question they asked me, so I made this video within a few minutes of reading the message.

It's my own opinion and it would seam by the other comments that this video was helpful...

  • Petro,

English isnt a second language to me (born british) I also have Dyslexia and am 14 years of age. Like I said I don't want to be a Simon Cowell, Im a young filmmaker and have made many films on many projects. I was just looking at any production quality advice. Why didn't you email Jack my body. It would be so much easier!!!!

  • inspiring tips, thanks!!

  • very good

  • Great Job! I Love your tips! Thanks for making this video :0)

  • Thank you so much for making this video. It's been a big help. I am very interested in making movies because I have aso many stories that I want to tell people through film. Could you plz make another video explaining in full detail how to hire/aquire actors? Thanks!

  • well i'm so glad i already do this things...makes me feel good i'm on the right path :)

  • Hey, thanks, some wonderful tips. Keeping the vision for a film is key.

  • brother, i'am working in a media Media company as a researcher (preproduction). Now I would like to make a short film on my own. I didn't do filmmaking course. Do you think I'll be able to do a short film? If you could kindly help me by giving some inputs, hope I will be able to do a short film. I had seen your golden tips of filmmaking. I need your encouragement.

    Daniel from India

  • yes. You can be a filmmaker no matter what. You learn from your experiences and mistakes. Get an idea, write a script, get some actors, and see what happens.

  • thank u so much, from now on I think I could do it.

  • great reality check thanks

  • what model is that?

    (camera wise)

  • Sony HDR-FX1e, check my other videos for footage for the camera (the Halloween short is a very good example of what the camera can do)

  • hey thanks petro1986! this inspired me even more. someday i'd like to be out there filming in hollywood.

  • I love this! Thank you so much ~

I was just writing a script .. and planning stuff when I came across this to enhance my short film to be :D

  • glad to be of help!

  • Great advice I really liked it.!

  • Thanks for the advice , the short films i have made so far have been just plain wierd , so i'll try and incorporate your advice into my production work so i can make a good short film.
