  • is that a lyon & healy harp?

  • That is so beast when the lower strings start vibrating after she plays higher notes and she stops the vibrations!

  • I don't know anything about music, this stuff fascinates me.

  • OMG, you are so beautiful!!

  • I have been playing the harp for one year now. I really wish I could keep my little finger down on my right hand as Mrs Vaughn can. I have seen many students' finger flying up in recitals.

Is it something you can either do or can't or is it something that has to be worked on and how much does it matter?

Maybe an expert can look at my videos and see if I'm waving about too much.

  • the harp is my absolute favorite instrument

  • @zzindorf She's in the LSO, so clearly she has muscles, and she should be playing.

  • Lawl, no one cares what you think about her. She has a made a career in music, not public speaking. She could be sick for all you know. Respect the woman's talent, and her willingness to pass on her knowledge and guidance to other players. How disconcerting it is to see that you've let such a trivial thing get in the way of the purpose of this video. What a superficial mindset. I feel sorry for you.

  • Lovely. Thank you for sharing this beautiful music and your interpretation and technique!

  • Karen you are amazing. i wish i had you as a teacher :)

  • instrument sounds so good, yet is so hard to find harp players

  • I'm a harp player if u ever need one :) (shameless little bit of advertising there)

  • im a harp player and this is pretty sweet. i like the tremelo advice alot

  • oh this is impossible.....now i want to learn to play harp!

  • hahah the harp is really nice :)

just that sometimes your fingers might get hurt and got callous X) but it's worth it anyway :D

  • wow....

    THATS A VERY GOOD FEELING...

  • WOOOHOOOOO please be my teacher :)

  • She's my teacher - and she is lovely. And fabulous. :) I'll let her know she has another fan though! xx

  • this is so cool seeing someone who has taught me, teaching on youtube!

  • I was thrilled and moved to hear you teach this master class

  • Amazing. I wish you were my mum.

  • what a wonderful instrument ¡¡¡¡

  • Harp sounds nice. Relaxing...

  • I play the harp but i dont have a peddle harp :( I still want to try to do it!!!

  • i love how the harp is able to do all of those glissandos :D

  • Wonderfull.

This woman must be an excellent teacher.

It's a true pleasure to listen her lessons.

  • The Competition is not open to residents of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Myanmar/Burma, Syria, Zimbabwe and any other U.S. sanctioned country.

    Patético

  • That puts a whole new light on this - what a shame and narrow vision. Whatever happened to "Peace Through Music"? I am very disappointed to learn this. It cant claim to be a true global event. Is this US State cultural censorship?

  • They wouldn't allow their people to go to the U.S. anyway.

  • oh i like this film, she must be good teacher :)

  • i play like a maestro on .....ukelele. Can i join LSO? lol!

  • though i wont be able to match the talent of some of the other harp players on youtube, ill try this piece out o.o its very professional looking sheet music, its kinda frightening... this video is very helpful and i REALLY wish i had a pedal harp (i have a lever one) as the begining tremelo part is impossible to do the "correct" way without pedals *sighhh* but i bet they would supply a pedal harp if i won...which i probably wont... but the attempt is the fun part in this competition!

  • this is amazing

i wish i played the harp

    ive always wanted to :)

  • She is very pleasant to watch and listen too!

  • How come piano isn't featured with this YouTube Symphony? Harp is awesome though, but I don't play. Only piano... I would really like to learn cello one day though.

  • well first of all its an orchestra which usually isn't a problem.but usually there is only one piano and how many people do u think are gonna audition.

  • Piano part has been added, last I checked. :)

  • Thank you, Karen, you are adorable!

  • What a talented and classy lady. I never knew harps had pedals - what a cool instrument!

  • Ugh, I could have watched her teach for ten times 10 minutes! Haha, this is awesome.

  • that looks really cool i dont play but nice

  • Thank you for the help!

  • thanks for taking the time for this

  • wow cool instrument... and btw the first instrument i know where you really can get hurt even if you do everything in correct way ^^ 5 stars

  • How long does it take to master a harp? o.O

  • long ;) depends on how often you practice and how you teacher support you = several years

  • It takes between 3 and 5 years usually to get to an advanced level. But really it depends on how much you already know about music and how committed you are to developing it. also, you never completely master it - it is always a learning process

  • Thank you for this video Mrs. Vaughan. It is always interesting to see how other harpists interpret those classics and to see wich fingering they prefer to use!

  • =]
