The engine isn't big enough to provide enough speed to put lift over the wings. The wings were twisted and not in keeping with the teardrop shape required for lift. MacGyver's DID!!! This myth was NOT busted!!! Had they made this airplane like MacGyver's, I'm confident it would have flown.

There are some substantional Rules in aviation to run a plane.

Center of Gravity was too far nose heavy and elevator was not liftet so far.

Even if they should made it the wings were totaly twistet so a roll would occur.

There are a lot of selfmade planes wich are flying pretty well.

Mythbusters have spend a lot of money without knowing what they proposed to do.

I think the point a lot of people are missing here is that MacGyver was supposedly able to construct a working aircraft, from scratch, with no testing and in a relatively short amount of time. The MB's did exactly that, and it didn't work. MacGyver busted.

I'd love to- but I'd rather see Jamie and Adam make one. The busted plane could have made a 40 degree sink rate if it hadn't hit more cliff on the way down :) it was beginning to pull out of the dive, and then splat!

Bamboo? Nah. I don't have the space, nor the budget (getting good pieces of bamboo like that isn't that cheap). I have, however built aircraft using a different wooden material--balsa. I've built both sheet-wood winged gliders and covered-framework wings, so I'm quite aware about how shoddy the work in this was. The Macgyver plane looks like..well, a large scale model build. The MB one...looks like a pile of garbage, not to put too fine a point on it. :-/

This was just plain STUPID. Of corse it IS possible to build a bamboo airplane, it's a lightweight material. But with these wings? If you put a rocket engine into that crap it wouldn't fly, let alone with that little thing.

Wow--that was absolutely *lousy* workmanship on that design. The wings were too thick, and had no actual airfoil to speak of (compare to the 'real'--so to speak--Macgyver version with *thin* wings, and what looks to be either sheet-wood or *taut* sheeting...which is what *real* planes used to use), not to mention *severely* warped. Even if they had gotten lift, they'd have gone into a spin right off. In this case, the *Mythbusters* are the ones busted. :-/

Um, the wing was huge :) Of course it can't fly the thing was like two feet thick hehe. And you'd need a lot more drop distance to create enough wind speed moving over the lifting surface with that much weight.

Why don't the mythbuster performs about the Rambo III & Die Hard 2? Have you seen the part at middle end part of the war when Rambo using machine gun from the tank got hit on the helicopter before it explodes? and also John McClane uses fire matches on the fuel trail that follows on the gasoline of an airplane before they flew and explode?
