I love Music Time Programmes for learning songs and playing beats of the music the part of the schools programmes on BBC2 is the best daytime schools programmes better than closing down
@michael196782 So did I, I would've been at junior school and this was my favourite programme! Great to hear it after all these years!! Cheers for the upload :)
@MOSTechnology Being a pre-schooler in the (late) 80s I never had that problem, seeing as at such a young age you basically haven't formed your preconceptions at that age! Therefore, it was one of my favourite programmes.
Looking back of course it does seem a little stuffy and overbearing, to be fair. Maybe something mainly suited to three-or four-year olds like I was when I watched it...
Luckily for me, this is one programme I never had to watch at school. And, when I watched during half-term holiday, it got switched over rather promptly. I never liked the presenter. Seemed too much like some of the less aproachable teachers you had at school.
I absolutely hated this program in primary school,.it really did a good job of putting me off being a musician at that age, I couldn't understand a word of what she's going on about, and the guy just creeps me out even now 30 years later. Scary stuff.
I recall both the puppet-animated version of the ballet Copellia, and a rather magnificent version of the skeleton dance (with two skeletons) I don't think I've ever seen anywhere else since.
@StrangerUK01 - I think there was a VHS release of the stop-motion Copellia at some point in the '80s (although not linked to Music Time) but I don't have it and I although it's my lasting memory of the programme I haven't seen it since then, unfortunately.
I think this first aired in autumn term 1984. Certainly it was on then, because my four-year-old self (far younger than the target age, but keeping the TV on after You & Me to watch it) made a recording of myself that term singing "Haul Away".
They used to make you clap with 2 fingers which made noise impossible at Primary School. If you arrived in the TV room too early, you had to watch a clock thing going round accompanied by some rather bland music.
How tortuously slow it seems now! Our shortened attention spans. I was from the Kathryn Harries and Peter Combe era - would LOVE to see a clip of them if anyone has one.
this is FANTASTIC :-) not that im sad or anything but i do like a bit of nostalga, i remember sitting in the gym in primary school dancing around to old programmes like this - not on my own of course lol
Quality! Yeah I remember the gnome too. And just like cernvantes this reminds me of a big tv on a trolley rack, with a big clunky vhs player, all sitting cross-legged on the floor. Those were the days!
I did hear that at some point during this series' run, Mari Griffith (a BBC Wales announcer) was one of the presenters. Can anyone confirm this, please?
From what I can make out Mari Griffith and Ian Humphrys presented initially, replaced in 1977 by Kathryn Harries (now one of our most successful sopranos) and Peter Combe (a successful Australian children's entertainer). Combe was later replaced for one series by Andrew Wadsworth. And here it's Helen and Jonathan - was there anyone in between?
@Scrumdidilyumpchious I thought MT was really cool! Boring in today's standards but great at the time!!

I used to think this was crap when I was a kid in the 80's. Was out of date and boring even back then.
The presenters annoyed me as well for some reason.

jonathan cohen ably brings a pleasing baritone to the table as per usual.

The woman is Helen Speirs, I'm pretty sure. Wonderful to see it again after all this time: I *loved* this programme.

God, this brings back memories of a smelly classroom and a TV on a movable rack with a top loader VHS. Bloody brilliant, I wanna go back to school!

I think that's legendary music-man Jonathan Cohen singing. The voice of the woman sounds very familiar, but I can't remember who she is.

Fantastic! I haven't seen this for years. Remember the gnome with his hand to his ear and the three fingered clapping along to the music.
