So 4E borrows a lot from WoW and videogames. That carries no judgement whatsoever. Why should that stop it from being a great game? Last time I checked people love WoW and videogames (I bet these guys do too).
D&D 4E is different. If you can't take your new edition being different from the old one, you shouldn't really play 4E. For anyone else wanting innovation, you should check it out, at least.
D&D had to dummy down the system because their new target audience are so fucking stupid now days and cant keep their attention on anything for more than 5 minutes. Adding charts and tables and rules infinity keeps these WoW-Heads interested by befuddling them about the game. Thats right, I said 'befuddling'.
Nerd as he may be(although that begs the question, what are you doing here?) he makes a lot of good points. Tabletop WoW is a perfect description, and definitely reflects my view of the 4th edition.
ive played every edition except 4th. i own everything for the original D&D stuff, mystara stuff and literally every tsr product for 2nd edition. then i got sucked into 3.0. then 3.5. i will not even be attempting 4th, sorry. why bother when my group always ends up playing basic D&D rules with some 2nd edition thrown in. 4th is all supercharacters, there is no structure and being a dm is like an unpaid thankless job. no thanks.
Agis261 owns the 4th rules and basic box set (still sealed too), and he prefers 2nd....but has found a happy middle ground GMing with 3.5 for the group. He found 20d system works with d&d but not with the other system well like 20d modern. Autumn and Czar Blandon are 3.5 GMs and players...but will play 2nd for it is still one of the fastest game system to throw together for a beer and nuts game.
Well i have a copy of the books on my laptop and i have to say its different but in now way is it better than the previous editions. The game designers say it is all about character customization but its really not its more your this and this is your job deal with it. There is really no multi-classing its feat based which yet again losses its customization skill. Im a little upset at them alienating everything i knew to be common place in DnD.
yeah Agis261, director of Wasteland Tv saw it last friday and wasn't really impressed with it...he felt it was dummyed down more then 3rd was.....(Agis261 prefers 2nd edition)
A "4" = FAILURE....
