  • 2:23 yeah but then he would whip your fat-ass

  • LMAO THAT GUY SAYS HE COLD CLOCKED HIM!!!!!????!?!?!?!?!!? HE WEAKLY PUSHED HIM FROM BEHIND LMAO LMAO.

  • whats mclovin granddad do here

  • The mere fact that this ass clown is on the list and Howie Long, Lyle Alzado and Merlin Olson aren't make this list a joke.

  • man players like deion and michael irvin and evry other wideout in the league are gettin payed to score, so they celebrate, and that aint keepin them outta the HOF. mark is gettin paid to sack, so he should celebrate like the others

  • He should be in the Hall just for being with Brigitte Nielsen.

  • Too bad he used steroids.

  • @flamerggame12 Yeah like he was the only one.

  • He can't dance.

  • Lol at 2:53 what a cheesy ass dance he is a schmuck! He sure could get to the QB in a hurry though.

  • I like Jared Allen's sack celebration where he takes a knee and does the lasso move, but the NFL fined him every time he did it so he stopped.

  • Does anyone remember in 1983 when the Rams played the Jets in New York? It was very funny seeing Mark Gastineau piss off the Rams with his Sack dance.

  • @Jiltedin2007 Yeah the unsportsmanlike taunting rule stemmed off of that play. The next year the NFL began fining players for it. Basically Mark Gastineau is the reason why players aren't allowed to celebrate that way anymore lol.

  • @mpj32587 Being the case, they should ban stuff like this in College Football, because they still are doing stuff like this in the College Level.

  • if you dont want him to celebrate, block him.

  • Maybe Slater, no disrespect to him he was a great player, should have DONE HIS JOB and blocked Gastineau??? Do you think? Go Mark G

  • Why does everyone get sensitive about players celebrating like they are out there on the field...At 12 years old, I became a Jets fan back in 1982 because of Mark Gastineau. He always gave everything he had to the green and white. I can't ask for anything more.

  • That last comment confused me......great talent bad dude...why was he a bad dude because he played with his heart on his sleeve and showed emotion?

  • Man I am a giant fan and the only reason I used to watch jet games was because of Marc Gastineau. This guy should be in the Hall of Fame, hands down!!

  • HOF!!!

  • @sosdkny He will NEVER get into the HOF dream on.

  • @mpj32587

I'm not losing any sleep over this...but explain your arguments why he should not be at least a candidate?

  • @sosdkny Because he has been eligible to get voted into the HOF since 1993. And has never even been a semi-finalist, let alone a finalist to get in! Im not saying he wasn't a good player but if he hasn't even been considered in all these years what makes you think he will in the future?

  • @mpj32587

I never said he will be in the future. I said he should be in the HOF already. The guy played ten years, 146 Games Played (Regular and playoffs), 113 Games Started (regular and Playoff), 116 1.2 sacks (regular Season and playoff). He started 1 game his rookie season and had 2 sacks. The last 3 years of his career was full of injuries. There were only 2 guys feared in the 80's, one was LT, the other Gastineau.

  • @sosdkny Gastineau used anabolic steroids, he admitted it himself years after he retired. Anyone that used steroids is a cheater and will never get into the HOF end of story.

  • @mpj32587

and LT was a coke head. your point is??

  • @sosdkny LOL wow my point is Gastineau's performance on the field was enhanced by steroids, therefore he is never going to get into the HOF! is that good enough for you my friend?

  • @mpj32587

LOL! Funny how your point is that he admitted to using steroids (at what point in his career we dont know) therefore the HOF would not take him and this ESPN segment doesnt even mention the word "steroids". Nobody has ever come and said that Gastineau has not been brought in as a candidate because of his acknowledgement of using steroids. Do you really believe that his performance on the field was because of steroids? Steroids doesnt make you run faster or run a 4.5/40 yard dash!!

  • @sosdkny I did more research on Gastineau and he most likely didn't use steroids up until 85-86. So all the early years was prolly pure talent. If you watch here 1:16 that was around 86-87 when he started getting even bigger. That was also around the time steroids started getting popular among Pros. So he probably didn't use them until later in his career. So, that's why i believe the HOF committee hasn't even given him a second thought. He was good though, just not a HOFer.

  • @mpj32587

Which is also why he started getting those injuries between 86-88??

  • @sosdkny So who are your 2 all-time favorite players offensive and defensive?

  • @mpj32587

Starting watching football when I was 6 (1978). SInce I am a Giants fan my favorite players are Giants. But as far as the best??

Tough to say with so many great players at different positions.

LT was the greatest defensive player I ever saw and since we are narrowing it down to two guys, I would say Ronnie Lott after him.

Offensively, Jerry Rice #1 hands down maybe Payton or Barry Sanders after him.

  • @sosdkny I see, well im a lil younger than you i am a Packers fan and my favorite offensive player and favorite overall is Randy Moss, go figure. My favorite defensive player has to be Reggie White though the minister of defense R.I.P.

  • @mpj32587

    Good Choices.

  • @mpj32587 He by far wasnt the only one and the NFL didn't ban them till 1987 and did't give fine or suspensions till 1989 so get of the guys back. when he was using it was legal.

  • @sosdkny Don't even dare put LT and Gastineau in the same sentence. One player is cocky ass douche for a second rate organization. The other, is a HOF LB who is considered one of the best defensive players to ever play the game for one of the class organizations in the NFL. A true great player can completely transform a franchise, and that's what Taylor did.

  • @cityhawk

Chill out, I have been Bleeding Blue for 34 years. Just saying, in the 80's they were both feared.

  • @cityhawk Oh no LT wasn't cocky and a drug bag and how about having sex with a 16 year old girl, leaving the scene of a accident. second rate org if it wasn't for superbowl 3 you wouldn't even be watching football and if you don't know what I mean by saying that I'm right. I don't think anybody is saying Mark was better than LT but he was damn good.

  • I do give a fuk how much he celebrates. If u don't want him 2 celebrate, stop him from getting the fukin sack!! Don't matter how he was off the field, what were his stats? How dare these judgemental stiff shirt bastards deny a stellar athlete like this his props. If I was gastineu I'd tell them pricks 2 shove their HOF up their ass

  • Was a big deal back then, but nowadays if seems like every meathead who makes a tackle celebrates like that...or any bigmouth who catches a pass...or the waterboy who makes a successful cup fill...well, you get the picture. It's sad this attitude has filtered down to the college game where everyone has to be a showoff and make a point about how talented they are instead of letting their skills speak for themselves. Ok ok, I'm gonna go put my leather football helmet on now and sit in a corner...

  • Gastineau used to live down the block from my grandmother in the late 80s when he was with Bridgete Nielsen. My cousin met him at a boat dock and said he was an asshole.

  • The funny thing is all Slater did at first was give Gastineau a shove - the brawl erupted after that when other players went after Gastineau and to a lesser extent Slater.

  • Now every pass rusher celebrates, and these dudes love it. I know I do.

  • Dave Duerson mentions Gastineau's marriage to Brigitte Nielsen - in his NY Jets book Gerald Eskenazi tells a hilarious story about how Nielsen showed up on the sidelines during a Jets-Redskins scrimmage, then Gastineau got a tattoo "Gitte" on his butt.

  • 2:10 I almost said "Gastineau sacks Peyton Manning."

  • Defensive ends reading the quarterback's lips? According to Goddell, that's stealing signals!! ;)

  • This piece only hints at how controversial Gastineau was. Joe Klecko and Marty Lyons hated the Sack Dance and Gastineau would always make it harder on teammates - he'd regularly defy team rules and the result would be what were called "Gastineau Rules," which were stricter versions of the rules he defied. He got into fights in the two strikes and then deserted the team halfway thru 1988.

  • Bottom line: You don't like the dance, then block him! Stop him from getting the sack! You may not like his antics but real men answer with action, not words.

Btw...his single season sack record still stands. That idiot, Favre, gave Strahan the sack record. No disrespect to Strahan. He was one great pash rusher.

  • RIP, 1:23

  • Good pass rusher.Bad against run

  • Guys like leonard little and donte stallworth have actually KILLED PEOPLE! Why the fuck is Gastineau a bad dude? Because he danced?

  • @chris371 Because he was never a team player and he deserted the team because the league was going to test him for 'roids.

  • Gastineau was tough when i was a kid, but he was on roids

  • bunch of stupid no nothing idiots in this video. the real reason he wont go to canton is obvious for those who are not bind to the reality of the nfl.

  • I miss the jets 80s uniforms they shud bring em back, that logo was ahead of it's time

  • Ok let me get this straight: they won't put him in the HOF because he liked dancing after sacking the QB. This is pure BS

  • im a jets ffan loved Mark, but the dude was on roids...sorry no HOF just like Bonds Sosa McGuire, Clemens sorry! plus he crossed picket lines and quit mid-season making up some BS story about his wife having cancer when he was scared of failing another drug test.

The idiot is too dumb to beat a f----ing urine test!!! lol He an idiot! Hey, Canada person, he's not in the HOF for a lot more than dancing!

  • Makes no sense he's not in the HOF for sack dancing when players today are gyrating for 5 minutes after almost every play. He was playing when 'old school' was giving way to a new generation of players. He got 'sacked' for his antics by the old school old boys club at the HOF. At least thats my take on it. Cheers from the north..go Jets. Notice how they interviewed Philly sports reporters?..they hate everyone don't they..even santa claus.

  • Gastineau should be in the HOF. One of the greatest sack artists of all-time.

  • So sharpies and cell phone antics are kewl but a dance, oh good god it's forbidden!

    GTFO,

Sound like a bunch of winey fukin haters.

  • Is that Mark Gastineau or the Ultimate Warrior?

  • Gastineau's best years with the Jets were from 1980-1985 & from 1986 to 1988, injuries & distractions off the field led to his decline in play.

  • He should have starred in Jack-Ass. Talk about breaking your neck in your own pool.

    Awesome power...Horrible persona.

  • Awesome hair..................

  • He owes nobody an apology. He changed his life, and should be admired for that. G_d bless him. Boy was he Great.

  • Mark was great...My dad had season tickets back then...what a show....

  • It's the coke baby!!!

  • These sportstalk mutherfuckers talk so much shit. Fuck em all!!! When they can match what gastineau did, then talk. The guy had charisma,u gonna hold that against him? If u gonna get mad at him 4 gettin a sack, fukin block him!!! If he gets no sack he can't dance!!

  • Every GM in the NFL would KILL to get a pass rusher like Gastineau, even if he was a jerk.

  • He held the sack record for a long time, he should be much higher

  • He ended his career in Canada for the B.C. Lions........So sad!

  • Sports talk windbags can talk all the trash they want about Gastineau and his on field persona. Bottom line is, NONE of them have ever put shoulder pads on and are in no position to say what they would've done if they were playing across from him. Was Gastineau cocky? Yes. Did he back it up? HELL YES!

  • @thunderstruck665

The TRULY sad part about sports today. It is dominated by guys who have no clue what it takes to be Great. Sports writers and radio jockeys who never played the game on any significant level critiquing guys who have ACTUALLY done it. Why the hell should someone who never played the game be allowed to solely decide who gets in the HOF? And why do too many fans sit for hours listening and calling into a sports radio show to talk to a sports jockey who never played the game?

  • I remember hearing a story of a doctor laughing his ass off @ GASTINEAU testicles size being as small as peas cuz of all the roids this clown took

  • thats the worst celebration ive ever seen. that would not offend me at all lol.

  • great player.

  • I love Gastneau and Klecko they both should be in canton ohio these two are good enough

  • As a kid I loved his antics because they were always backed up with onfield production. The man was a BEAST.

  • Last seasons NFL sack leader was the Broncos Elvis Dumervil with 17. Defensive players don't even get 22 sacks anymore (Gastineau's record) THAT is how good Gastineau was. What a true NFL LEGEND.

  • I can't pass him as tough guy defensive end with the gay mullet mustache combo

  • @keef1989

Dude, it was the early 80s.

  • im glad big mike broke his record, this guy was an asshole

  • Excuse me while I go put on my Gastineau jersey! Do you hear me Pro Football Hall of Fame?! The record holder for most sacks in a season with 22. A record he held from 1984 to 2001!

  • TO of the 80s can you say steroids!

  • Im 40 years old now but as a kid before I learned that your heroes should be judged on other than what they do sports wise, Mark Gastineau was my hero.

  • Gastineau was awesome and he should be in the HOF!! Watching Gastineau and Lawrence Taylor in the 80's was what football is all about. His antics?? You mean like, grabbing a pen and signing an autograph, or grabbing a cell phone, or dancing after a tackle? Ask Ray Lewis where he got his chicken dance from? 107 sacks in 10 years!! Michael Strahan didnt get going till his 7th year. Gastineau could have played OLB. That would have been amazing.

  • @sosdkny

    5th year actually.

  • I hate sports analysts and hall of fame writers... they always try to say what a player should and shouldn't do. I understand if you've played the game (PROS NOT COLLEGE) but some of them look like wet noodles casting judgements... it annoys me.

  • he is #1 by far he ad. 20 sack per year

  • Had Jackie Slater been a REAL man, he would've had the balls to look Mark in the eye as he took a shot at him instead of hitting him from behind like a little douche. Who cared if Mark was cocky? He had every right to be because he always backed it up on the field.

  • mark gastineau is my moms uncle sooo.....

  • @balance555ify sorry my bad he was my moms COUSIN!!!

  • that dance is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 22 sacks = beast

  • Alot of Ends "dance" when they get a sack... not that big of a deal.

  • It's not that big of a deal 'anymore'. You have to remember that this is really getting into the first generation of guys that didn't have to have 2nd jobs to make ends meet. I mean, Billy "White Shoes" Johnson was still active at this time and he only celebrated when he would run a kick off for a touchdown.

Now, everyone prances around like a little bitch for everything they do. If they get knocked on their ass good enough they're ready to fight. That's bitch shit in my book. JUST PLAY BALL!

  • HA! Gastineau's sack celebrations are gentleman like compared ot the shit that goes on today. lol

  • Mark was rare physical specimen at 6-5,280,who ran 4.6.He was difficult 2 cut&had an ability to counter a lineman's moves on the fly.Explosive strongman was best power rusher in the league for 4 years before Reggie came in 1985. Mark's overt physical skills was an unequaled mix of determination, size, speed, quickness, and strength. In 1985, Jets switched from NY Sack Exchange 4-3 to 3-4. Mark missed the first month but was still 2nd in AFC with 13.5 sacks,as he lined up anywhere in a rover role

  • In 1985,that new 3-4 with Klecko on the nose, &Mark's rover role rather than a down lineman, allowed Mark to be moved from side to side,up&down in a formation designed to primarily to protect him & free him up to rush the passer. But more significantly he was a force against the run.He could always run down sweeps but in the 4-3 his enthusiasm for getting to the QB left him vulnerable to draws&traps. But 1985 rover role let Mark to take on more blocks, cut through traffic, and get to ball carrier.

  • In 1985,4 years after recording 20 sacks in 1981, and 1 year after recording 22 sacks, then an NFL record, without any QB running into him, Mark was still faster than most quarterbacks, quick enough to pursue runners,& physical enough to demolish man-to-man blocking with uncanny leverage. He was still like a sprinter out of the blocks when he pinned his ears back, and the rover role of moving him around the line kept opponents guessing. By season's end he had 94 sacks in 86 career starts.

  • But in 1986 Gastineau made just 28 plays-26 tackles and 2 sacks-and finished the year on a knee that went bump in the night. He was always pretty tall anyway, and his balky knees made inviting targets. By 1987,his burst was gone. But Gastineau was a great player from the last half of 1980 to the first part of 1986.He was great for 6 years not 3. Should he be remembered for starting fight against Jackie Slater? I DO know anybody who gets sack on the incomparable Jackie Slater did something great

  • Let me get this straight, the guy is not in the HOF because some thought that he danced and showboated too much!!! That's a bunch of BS

  • gastineau played in an era before ESPN was what it is today and showboating attention grabbing stars like TO and Ochocinco were less common. Gastineau was too over the top for the era he played in.

  • BTW, that dive was sick.

  • Do people say the same stuff about Neil Smith? I remember that guy was doing some baseball swing or some type of celebration every sack he made. Nowadays guys like Chad Ochocinco make Gastineau look like a pretty mild mannered and humble player. Of course the difference is that the media eats it up. NFL players today are 5 times the showboat that any 80s player was.

  • If Favre didn't lay down for Strahan and give him the single season sack record,Gasitneau would still have this record for who knows how long. It's a shame that Favre,Strahan and the NFL handed over a record that is very hard to earn just because they'd rather have their brand and product associated with a player that has a squeaky clean media image. Strahan is one of the best in his own right but he didnt earn the sack record w/out Favre literally laying down for him.

  • @Gamebox27 I agree with that to a point - it doesn't seem like defensive ends act like Gastineau anymore; the flamboyant and controversial guys are the WRs, the defensive backs, and a few quarterbacks. Trench guys like Gastineau seem not to be that way anymore.

  • cocky and ugly but pretty good

  • Say what you want, Gastineau was pretty fucking good.

  • Mark Gastineau was really ugly

  • he should have been the best but he was ass hole

  • He'd fit in with today's NFL primadonnas and showboats.

  • Great ball player! I have been a Jets fan for over 30 years,I enjoyed watching him play when I was a kid.Off the field he had tons of issues, but now he has given his life to Christ. He was an awesome player, not well liked, but he could play the game!

  • That's BS he was awesome!!!! He made it a real show & let fans know it's a blast to hit people & he CAN!!!

  • @marcusvan That's easy to do when your on roids!
