Incase any of you are wondering, I'll tell you why this happened. It generally only happened on PC, but I was known to occur less often on consoles.

Basically, the game mistakes the enemy (doesnt have to be an enemy, can happen to any living creature, except yhe player himself), for a companion. This causes the scripting of the enemy to be re-written from 'non- essential' to 'essential'. This means that, like companions, the enemy then cannot be killed.

The glitch can last from a few seconds up

That happens every once in a while in the PC version, while spawning certain enemies or NPC's, sometimes they're tagged as "essential", which makes them go unconscious...but this thing...it's fucking Chuck Norris...

This isn't possibly a problem with the gun or the explosions, but actually a glitch with the ants. They sometimes spawn invulnerable to all forms of splash or projectile damage. You can still kill them with a melee weapon, however. Just be on the look out for them in the future.

Fallout: New Vegas really needs patching for this kind of shit.
