1080p just refers to video quality, sound quality will only depend on the actual quality of the file he uploaded and the sound system you're hearing it on.

If you somehow hear a difference, it's probably just your imagination.

Not true at all. There are some videos on Youtube there's a huge difference between 360p and 480p/720p/1080p. For example 'watch?v=x27V12sAeEw'. I don't know what speakers you got, but I realize the difference by a lot on my 5.1 system. I think it's just a matter of how your render settings are..
