I took Aikido for years... Honestly.. I quit because there is no realistic defense for realistic attacks. Kickboxing, boxing, grappling, muay thai, kyokushin karate it the way to go in defending yourself. I'm not an expert, but so far has never failed

The TKD guy must be very green. ANd the AIkido guy has nothing to work on. Aikido, from old aikijujitsu was invented in the battlefield, with people running at you, so you throw them with their own momentum (and you can see this in any aikido school or demonstration), in this scenario its highly effective. But against a static fighter, hmm, not effective and you can see that as its forceVSforce to get a lock to stick. He's only getting the better of the TKD guy because he's bad.... :)

There are always bad apples in every barrel........not surprisingly, the amateurish TKD fighters are the ones that make it to YouTube. I have yet to see a proper full-contact TKD fight on YT.

TKD is not only kicks; it uses throws, blocks, fists, feet, head, elbows, and knees. It also contains self-defense training, and a few ground techniques aimed at submission.

Also about physical "fighting" and about MA -vs MA... it's rarely about the art, but the individual. Aikido emphasizes good "Bu"(=technique) but draws more people to train it who are more interested in more "Dō" (=way). Morihei Ueshiba was man of peace, and a man of god as well.

For more "Koryu" and harder "Aiki" technique, (if someone finds Aikido not fast/good enough for PHYSICAL skills), there's always Daito ryu Aiki-jujutsu.. ;-)
