  • Astounding !!!! Bravo a thousand times over. And also a bravo to the recording crew.

  • Magical. Simply, fascinating. Saint-Saëns never lets me down.

  • tell me your secrets. this is masterful. i've listened to it probably 10 times in the past three days. beauuuuuuuutiful.

  • 1:05-1:25 was so beautiful!

  • im started to learn it three days ago its very nice ~~ but not easy ;)

  • nice! :-)

it's a pity we don't have a version with french bassoon in youtube (which is possibly nearer to the autor's intention...).

  • @mauriwayar y i only play normal basson too. no french basson and i only started learning this notes now but now my opinion is that they are not THAT difficult

  • A gorgeous performance of one of Saint-Saen's most beautiful chamber works, written when he was 86 years old! A superb, characterful performance!

  • VERY GOOD!!

  • SUPERB!!!!! Oh! This is so great, I cannot even put my thoughts into words.

I will simply say that I really do know that this is MIGHTY EXCELLENT! Why? I played the bassoon through out my college years. It is a MOST difficult instument to play...and it helps to have large hands!LOL! This is so sweet to me...what a lovely vibrato...and the HIGH, and very low notes were Proof of EXCELLENCE! Thank you! BRAVO!!! Sir.

  • you have won the competition for sure - bravo

  • me gusta muchisissisisimo ;-)

  • Absolutely perfect! The nuances, tone colours, phrasing, vibrato--everything! Bravi!

  • @MrWillFranklin

And yet, Saint-Saens was a strict classicist to the end, often clashing with the likes of Verdi and, later, Debussy.

  • lol... by the way... this is also live..:)... but without a picture... The second one was taken live on concert...

  • @dusanholy

Wow, this was live? The quality and perfection of this performance is just beyond comprehention!! If I ever play this piece half this well, I will be so thankful! They say musicians never reach perfection.. but this sure comes close!!

  • @emquandra You should have heard the Berwald that was on here a few months ago. That was to die for! I wish Dusan would put it back up, if it's okay with the bassoonist.

  • The first movement is actually faster than I know it to be. It's great nonetheless.

  • Yes I must really say bravo!!! I hope you and your friends will have a beautiful career in music! Keep playing Camille's music, it is among the finest. :)

  • This is such a pretty piece. Nice job!

  • absolutely fantastic!!!! :]

  • Is it just me, or is the second movement a bit on the slow side? But it's beautiful playing nonetheless. Great job!!

  • slow?? how will i ever bring up my speed for this??

  • It's about 8 clicks slower than I'm used to it too

  • Maybe it is a little bit slower, than "usually" recordings are. But there is quite long echo in the hall (Suk hall, Rudilfinum, Prague), where it´s recorded and in faster tempo sixteens would be blurred... But I hope the mood of the movement is kept...

  • Why aren't there more bassoon sonatas? This is excellent.

  • There are plenty - most are just kind of obscure.

  • I'm working on it! lol

  • Also, what fingering do you use for the high E at the end?

  • Its different on each instrument. But I usually use: middle g fingering, with double key press in left hand - a key with c sharp key, and in the right hand double press on b flat with E keys. But as I have said, its individual for eych instrument...

  • Hey Ondřej,

I am also playing this piece and the only way to reach the D# and the E is to bite the reed. Otherwise I have to blow the D and bind all the way to E. I use the high D# and E keys. I was wondering if you could be so kind to tell me exactly what fingerings you use for those two notes (D# and E), as I couldnt understand what you said here above.

    Many thanks!

    David-FFJ

  • This high notes are question of time... I can tell you what fingering I use, but your instrument is different, your bocal is different and of course your reeds are different too. You have to try and try till you can play it... ;-) My fingering for d#" is middle c# fingering with half-hole in first finger. Optional is to close second (a) hole and f# key (in right hand...) good luck

  • Thanks for the explanation, Ondřej!

    D

  • My edition of this says that the 3rd to last bar of Mvt/1 should be an octave higher than written which would link it to the high b but every recording I've heard has it as written. What's going on? lol and excellent by the way.

  • I have the same in my edition. It says its original, so Im wondering which is original - low D or middle D.

  • That was really good!

But there are some things that in my opinion could be improved:

    1) More Romantic into the 2nd part, especially by you Dušan :-)

    2) Not so much playing differently than written; I have the piece and there are some parts that are IMO completely different when changed (3:07-3:14, 4:57-5:03)

    3) More staccato where written :-)

1 and 3 are personal preferences of course, but I think 2 is important.

Otherwise, a better performance than Ive heard from CDs!

  • very nice, bravo!! good luck for the competition :)

  • ..... Beautifully Played, World-Class Musicians, World-Class Artistry. Bravo.

  • Thank you very much for your reaction. But there are many things, wich I (or we) could do better).

  • Thank you very much Dusan for your accompaniement and recording! I think it was nice and good job for nice music!
