  • I never like Van Dyke's style but hey he is a great hollywood actor.

  • Dick Van Dyke has gotta be one of my fave actors of all time he was born 13th December 1925 and said he was 72 so this was made either in 1997 or possibly 1998 (as his birthdays so late in the year) he's 86 this year omg!

  • Dick Van Dyke is freaking awesome.

  • @RichardElden Indeed, it was. Thanks for the reply.

  • @RichardElden The same holds true for "It's A Wonderful Life."

  • @RichardElden You would think that with that flying car that this film would've been his greatest ever. How do you know it flopped?

  • 2 Dykes

  • @ Dykes 1 show Rosie you suck

  • Dick Van Dyke is a classic example of a great actor. In all honesty, I really loved both Mary Poppins, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but what sucks is the fact that these are the only two Dick Van Dyke movies I can remember watching. Why hasn't he made any movies recently? Is it because of that show?

  • in todays world (im talking 2011) if your a kid it must suck having the name "Dick"

  • Aw I ADORE this man. Just seeing him brings a smile to my face. Good childhood memories connected to his movies :)

  • i had no idea he was the old man from the bank till now! i am ashamed...

  • @RichardElden I disagree with you on the highest of levels. His breathing is excellent and his voice, while not made of velvet, is in extraordinary shape for someone who's 85 years old. He is a very sprightly gentleman for his age. Besides, if he is a chain smoker, how is it possible he lived to 85 years????

Your argument has been rendered invalid. For your own benefit, do not bother to respond to this comment.

  • I would marry Dick Van Dyke....

  • @RichardElden I don't know what you're talking about.

  • How is it possible that he's still so handsome???

  • I want this interview to go on forever.

  • @RichardElden Lol! doesn't seem to have affected him much :P

  • Anyone notice that Rosey thought the clip she just played ("Supercalifragalistic") was from "Chitty Chitty"? After they talked about that scene, Rosey says her nephew sees it everyday with the flying car and the wings. And then she says "And what about 'Mary Poppins"? She says she's such a big fan but doesn't even recognize one of Disney's most famous songs.

  • @qwisp She knows the difference between Mary Poppins & Chitty Chitty. It's just that she didn't make it clear to Dick that it was Chitty she was talking about from the start and that was her son's favorite film. He thinks she's referring to Poppins all along and she's talking about Chitty. But yes, she didn't make it clear.

  • Wow!! he doesnt look like he aged one bit!!

  • I <3 DICK VAN DYKE more than any of you.

  • Gahh I love Dick Van Dyke he was so cute when he was young!

  • Dick Van Dyke is awesome! I pretty much love anything he's in. I just wish they would get all the seasons of Diagnosis Murder on DVD!

  • @SaviorSixtySix

    Yeah, I love him too.

I hope Diagnosis Murder was in DVD, and also the Dick van Dyke show

  • He's not the only Dyke on the show

  • @JuanMacready I'm not a big fan of Dick Van Dyke either, but you just sound like you're jealous of him.

  • it's gotta suck growing up having the name Dick. lol my Dick u sure have grown!!!! or if ur a fat kid you get the name big fat DICK. geez louis...

  • I had no idea that "Bert" from Mary Poppins was also one of the nightguards from Night on the Museum!

  • i am related 2 him

  • @JuanMacready Your mastery of the English language continues to amaze me (as well as the YouTube audience). Be honest - - you're an author, aren't you? (BTW - - "Mary Poppins" is one of the most beloved and cherished films in history. Disney and Van Dyke are legends. However, we'll let that be our secret. We certainly don't want anyone else to realize the magnitude of your ignorance.)

  • Dick Van Dyke is one of my all time favorites.

  • @JuanMacready The fact that he is a great dancer and can still do it brilliantly is a testament to his enduring talents as a performer. However, he still would not have been the right 'type' to play "Bert"....especially opposite Julie Andrews. She and Dick had a wonderful chemistry together. They still have it today.

  • @JuanMacready No, Mary Poppins does not go on for too long. The "Step In Time" sequence is one of the most brilliantly choreographed dances ever put on film. I have no doubts about Ron Moody's talent. He was Oscar-nominated for his role of 'Fagin' in the movie version of "Oliver!" (having originated the role onstage in London in 1960). I personally saw him do the role live on Broadway in the "Oliver!" revival in the 1980's.

  • @JuanMacready It does not go on for too long. Perhaps for you....not for others. His accent? Yes, it's questionable but totally acceptable. Once again, NOT the only decent film he was in. Your opinion only. As much as I love Ron Moody ("Oliver!"), he was way too old for "Bert" and he couldn't have danced it the way DVD did. Also, he's the wrong "type" for that part.

  • @JuanMacready Once again, your persistence is matched by your immaturity. "BBB" is a classic American musical. It won a slew of Tony Awards (including one for Dick Van Dyke, the man you love to hate), was turned into a classic motion picture musical (1963), was turned into a television movie (1995), is one of the most performed shows by high schools and is a staple of community theatre. It gave the world "Put On A Happy Face". Once again, your lack of knowledge astounds.

  • scott 6263 i completely agree with you. this person is effing stupid. dick van dyke is a true legend of classic film. whoever the stupid ass person is that ur arguing with can stfu cuz they obviously dk what in the hell they're talking about.

  • @Samantha21071 Van Dyke is a talentless prick and I'm amazed he didn't get lung cancer.

  • @JuanMacready who would you consider as a talented actor, say for Robert Petri role?

  • @Samantha21071 Thanks! He is obviously alone in his way of thinking. I don't know why he persists in this. I have a strong feeling he is very much a loner and has no one in his life. Why else consistently pick on people/movies beloved the world over? He needs severe counseling.

  • Dick Van Dyke will be remembered by 3 things and THREE things ONLY. The Dick Van Dyke show, Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and that's it. He should consider himself damn lucky.

  • @oldschoolbrawlers He was only famous in the 1960s. Although I thought he was quite good as the murderer in Columbo.

  • @oldschoolbrawlers He'll also be remembered for "Bye Bye Birdie". He won the Tony Award and starred in the subsequent movie version. He certainly is one-of-a kind - actor/singer/dancer. Simply amazing! He is legendary and beloved the world over.

  • @Scott6263 Bye Bye Birdie is long forgotten.

  • @JuanMacready Forgotten? By whom? By YOU? You are far from the majority of thinkers.

  • @oldschoolbrawlers, your comment is kind of odd. You really emphasize "ONLY" as if that's a big indictment on his career. Most actors never get known for anything. The fact that he was instrumental in 3 things that are considered entertainment legend makes for a fantastic career. It would be like putting down Julie Andrews by saying, "She will ONLY be remembered by two things and two things ONLY, Mary Poppins and Sound of Music. Big whoop!"

  • There is no way in Hell he was 72!!!

  • @ElijahsImpact I know, he looked so much older! That's because he smoked sixty cigarettes a day for fifty years, and was an alcoholic.

  • @ElijahsImpact He looks great for his age! And he's still as charming as ever. It's a shame he had an alcohol problem. However, that certainly didn't affect his performances. His movies and the characters he played in them are all legendary. He makes us all smile! And that's something to be proud of! :-)

  • thats the guy who did it, step in time!!

  • rofl.....they said dick....hehe

  • He is such a lovable guy!

  • Could NOT stop smiling through this whole video.

  • Dick Van Dyke is one of my favorites, funniestest thing is my last name is also Van Dyke.

  • best celebrity alive he is a god

  • Rosie is talking about CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG and he's answering like it's MARY POPPINS questions

  • He probably wishes to forget Chitty.

  • @JuanMacready Chitty has proven itself to have every bit if not more longevity as Mary Poppins. The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are his biggest successes and what he'll be best remembered for.

  • Chitty was an overlong crapfest which flopped and ended his film career.

  • @JuanMacready Chitty was the 10th biggest moneymaker of 1969 in the United States and the 3rd highest in Britain. Contrary to rumor, it did not flop. It also has proven itself to have staying power.

  • Chitty was an overlong badly acted piece of crap which lost a lot of money. Van Dyke couldn't sing for shit and all the songs were forgettable.

  • @JuanMacready you're just a nasty bitter hater who can't get his facts straight and feeds on disinformation. How you must irritate and tire those around you who have to put up with your crap.

  • The budget of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ballooned to over $15 million. It received terrible reviews and took only $10 million at the box office. So while it may not have been a huge flop, it did lose a lot of money and ended Van Dyke's film career.

  • @JuanMacready Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ended up being a moderate success. Not a hit like his previous "Mary Poppins", but a hit none-the-less. It received mixed reviews (like most films). It did not end his film career. Most importantly: "The Wizard of Oz", "It's A Wonderful Life", "Pinocchio", "Fantasia". These 4 films flopped at the box office. Today, they are considered classics. You cannot judge a film by it's box office power. "Transformers 2" made millions. Is that a classic?

  • @Scott6263 CCBB lost $5 million when it was released. Hardly surprising since it was an overlong and boring piece of crap with forgettable songs and Van Dyke couldn't sing for shit.

  • @JuanMacready Wrong again. Your taste is obviously in your mouth. The film has become a cherished classic. The score was terrific - the title song was nominated for an Academy Award. Van Dyke remains one of our supreme entertainers - can act, sing and dance with the best of them.

  • @Scott6263 He never was an actor and the chain smoking alcoholic couldn't sing for shit. CCBB was an overlong badly acted piece of crap with forgettable songs.

  • @JuanMacready Once again, your persistence is matched by your immaturity. "CCBB" is a classic film beloved by many - great performances and great songs. Van Dyke is a performing legend. Howes is magical. These are all FACTS. Do you know what that means? BTW, in case you weren't aware, the YouTube audience is getting a daily dose of your total and complete ignorance and vulgarity. Have a wonderful day!

  • @Scott6263 Van Dyke was just a mediocre TV comedian who never was an actor, by his own admission. Howes was far too old to play Truly and she couldn't act worth a damn. In fact, her complete non-performance was one of the worst things about the overlong and boring flop movie with its forgettable songs and awful back projection.

  • @JuanMacready if Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had forgettable songs how come I can still remember all the lyrics and I'm 25.

  • @Classicsatdusk Completely true.

  • @JuanMacready Totally untrue.

  • @ScrapNfight Completely true! All classics. Let's not forget "Bye Bye Birdie"!

  • Thanks for this I L-O-V-E dick van dyke-he is the best!!!

  • dick was a cutie in mary poppins

  • Gosh ,thanks for posting - Dick Van Dyke is one of the most talented guys to ever grace the screen, and one of my favorites ever !

  • Dick Van Dyke is like, my idol!

And oh my god, his intitials are DVD! That's terrific!

  • You just have to love Dick Van Dyke!

    I know I do!

  • "dick" van dyke

  • I LOVE Dick Van Dyke!!!!!!!! ty for posting this musical!

  • a great treat. Thank You For putting it here!

  • No but people change. People learn from they're mistakes. I used to be a terrible person and wouldn't go thru a day without getting mad. Now i think i'm a better person. If we had this conversation a few years ago i'd ignore your opinion and call you names, But i respect your opinion.

I'm not trying to be preachy BTW.

  • You do realise that Dick Van Dyke isn't Dr Mark Sloan?

  • I don't know who he is but if he is a man that was bad that became good then i guess he could be.

  • He should be president. He is such a great father figure and truly gifted in every way.

  • Yeah but he's got too many skeletons in the closet.

  • Yeah, so did Kennedy and i think he was one of the better presidents.

That's the thing that makes someone a better person...experience. How would a 3 year old know fire burns if he doesn't touch it?

  • What do you think he was doing with her?

  • Yes she did.

  • Dick's longtime companion has died of lung cancer.

  • Dick is a good liberal Democrat.

  • He is the only liberal I will ever forgive

  • Will you forgive his support for President Obama?

  • 1) Gd bless the USA and Dick Van Dyke

    2) absolutely - but between you and me I am from Canada - your northern left wing freak cousin - so I am not an American so I have no right to criticize ( although I did my CPA in Illinois )but putting all those Dems ( franks, schumer, boxer, moran, I best stop now )in power is something else!

FYI: I wish I had 5% of the talent that Dick Van Dyke still has

  • He didn't start dancing until his 30s???!!! Amazing!

  • Oh man! Dick did such a good job as Bert. I wish I could do what he did, you know, dance that rooftop sequence!

  • i like da movie he plays in "Cold Turkey" LOL

  • She asked him about the dance number in Chitty and he talks about Mary Poppins. Both films are wonderful but Mary Poppins is so set bound. Chitty was opened up in the outdoors.

  • That's my only regret about Mary Poppins, it does look so studio bound.

  • Aww, Dick. *loves*

  • Ever since I was a little girl I was in love with Mr. Van Dyke! He is such a sweet and lovable person. God bless him.
