it still boggles my mind that this film never won an Oscar. I mean everything about it was perfect, from the acting, screenplay, dialogue to the original score and music. Most underrated film of the century.
wow I cried a bit near the end when everyone including the army was silenced by the baby, so moving.... best movie I've seen since the butterfly effect
I just snapped my dvd of this and threw it in the fire place because for like 15 minutes straight they played sounds of the baby crying and it just totally ruined it for us all.
Children Of Men is by far 'the' most underrated film of the 2000's. I saw this when it was first released in theaters. There were only a handful of people in the screening room, which was a shame. When this film was first released on DVD, I bought a copy and added it to my collection. That same DVD is still there.
Roger Ebert placed this film as 'third' on his Top Ten list. I wish it had gotten more acclaim. Clive Owen, Clare-Hope Ashitey, and Michael Caine were wonderful. Great film.
@Federalism24 In my opinion, I disagree. I have seen a lot of films which have flown under the radar that were simply breathtaking. I do not think this film had a good enough story line.
@Federalism24 I would recommend "It's kind of a funny story" if it is to your taste. I have many others but I thought you may like it because it has that guy from due date and the hangover. (I don't like him but he seems pretty popular)
@Federalism24 "Seven Pounds" by will smith didn't get the popularity it deserved. "Green Hornet" was quite a good comedy with Seth Rogan. "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" was good and its not that popular and its one of those films that makes you think about life after.
@alexpounder Hmm... I've never seen those. The reviews of 'Seven Pounds' were good. The reviews of 'The Green Hornet' were bad. 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' is easily the most critically acclaimed film of those you just named. Regardless of the reviews, I'll check them out. But I think Children of Men is just masterful. :)
@Federalism24 Yeah but not many people have seen Seven Pounds. Green Hornet was bad because it was probably rated by people who like non-original comedies. You should watch the trailer. ESotSM was very clever in the way it was set out and it wasn't your usual romantic film it was rather enlightening though.
@alexpounder what would have to happen in this movie in order for it to have a "good enough" storyline for you. im curious. what would alexpounder add to this movie to make it worthwhile
@urasalmongirlright Oh maybe some worthwhile reason for the whole storyline. Oh suddenly all the women in the world stop being able to make babies. It just has so many problems.
@alexpounder right and im asking you what YOU would make the plot, in order to make it interesting. Since worldwide infertility and the disgusting actions of men without hope, or a future, as well as the basic storyline of what happens when all hope is gone, and what can happen when hope is returned.... is not enough of a plot to you.
@urasalmongirlright No, that is NOT a good plot to me. If I were making a movie, which I aren't, I would make a better plot. I would scrap the whole plot of this movie and start again.
I saw this movie last night in my film class. It really hit me ,It just didn't seem like movie at all . I felt like i was watching the world news or something maybe because the world is already in chaos and there is no way to stop it society is unraveling. The next few years are going to be quite interesting.
My friend told me this movie was shit, and from the trailer and evident plot line I didn't give it a second glance until now. Honest to God, one of the best films I've seen. Don't trust the trailer!
@TheWhiskeyZone I just read an article today about this. There are actually reports, that the infertility rates are rising, in both North America and Western Europe. Talk about unsettling. Not sure how valid these claims are though.
@TheWhiskeyZone it is not sure the world is going through some tough times well at least for the middle and lower class but theirs still 7 billion and counting people on this planet.Thats not just gonna collapse.Reform possibly but I doubt collapse.
@zneekiii There are, especially in the last few bits of the movie where Theo tries to save the baby from the Fishers you can see alot of Asians all living in the ghetto.
**Trailer spoiler alert** Man, this trailer spoils the big surprises of the film. I can't believe they actually showed the girl. That was the big reveal! They could have just made a trailer about the world going to shit and a man trying to find hope in doing something righteous and decent for once. Instead they just made it cheesy as hell. If you haven't seen this spectacular film, ignore the trailer and see it for yourself.
"I watched that movie, Children of Men the other day! Great movie!
But a bit sad, cause at first I thought there was no Hope for mankind, with everyone being sterile and everythin :s. But then there WAS hope when they found out there was a Baby :D But then they found out the baby was black and, everyone lost hope again... :(

In response to AimForMyHead81, yes the main guy does die in the boat at the end. If you watch closely when he's trying to get in the building to the baby, he is shot by the tanks machine gun. Its just when he is next to the door.
in response to AimForMyHead81, yes the main guy does die in the boat at the end. If you watch closely when he's trying to get in the building to the baby, he is shot by the tanks machine gun. Its just when he is next to the door.
By far the greatest British Film i've ever seen, its just quite incredible that Us, Britain, with no major big industries has be able to create a piece of Art so exelent, Its not just a string of special effects, the special effects push the story along, its exelent, just exelent!
This movie really broke my heart, it was so sad. All the tragic happenings, and the whole film just hurt my heart, and made me pray that our world NEVER becomes like that, or if it does, I want to be dead by the time it happens.
It's ironic that it was an illegal immigrant that got pregnant, and was the future yet she wasn't wanted in that country. This director decided to take on immigration in this way.
its kinda funny that this movie is about women being infertile. we're now facing a problem that is the TOTAL opposite of that. Overpopulation. it might actually do some good for people not to have SO many children.
What an excellent film. I was deeply moved by it. I don't understand how anyone could think this film was bad. It was one of the most innovative films I have seen.
@hattalah 1) no he was the only 18 year old on the planet 2) how do you know? The only thing you just saw was a trailer 3) again how do you know 4) well if she is the only pregnant woman on earth you can find out why and every women can get babies. Well got anything left to say?
what if it was called Children of Pizza and instead of women losing the ability to give birth, everyone forgot how to make pizza. then in the long shot where the baby is born, and everyone hears the crying baby and the fighting stops, some guy justs pulls out the first freshly baked pizza in like 25 years. the fighting then momentarily stops when everyone starts to smell the pizza as they walk through the warzone holding the pizza.
@shak99 omg. You stole this quote from King of Queens of Arthur Spooner when he explains the war in Italy and a random guy opened a shop and baked pizza pies. And its all all war had disappeared.
Saw this last night and I thought it was excellent. The battle in the refugee camp at the end was completely mental. Really good believable sci-fi. There was a lot more humour in it than the trailer suggests too.
I liked it. It was really original and well executed. Though the story took place in the future, there wasn't any over the top techology like we've seen in other sci-fi movies. I also loved the fact it took place in Britain and we got to see Clive Owen and Micheal Cane (2 of the biggest british dudes in my opinion) in one movie. It kinda reminded me of 28 Days Later, what really sucks you in is the atmosphere.
1) why did they even care so much about the joungest person in the world? obviously someone else was gona take his place with just minutes if not seconds in time difference. just made me mad.
2) nothing really happened in the whole movie. they were just driving around, getting shot at for no reason.
3) characters making idioticly stupid decisions = annoying
4) why would everyone else be able to get kids cuz that nigger did?
now it's your turn. tell me why it was so god damn good
@lozimia see, everyone just rage at me because i didn't like the movie, but you can't tell me WHY it was good. I can see why it might have moved some people, but I myself thought it was slow, boring and unrealistic.
@hattalah Well, It had an immense sense of realism and plausibility, though set in the future, it reflected the world of today in so many ways and yet; remained original. It's cinematography was fresh and pleasing, some scenes lasting 5 minutes without cuts (this is rarely done in mainstream film). Performances, even from extras, are astounding. It's theme of hope was also extremely enlightening for audiences and were more emotionally invested in it as a result of it's theme and plot.

what if it was called Children of Pizza and instead of women losing the ability to give birth, everyone forgot how to make pizza. then in the long shot where the baby is born, and everyone hears the crying baby and the fighting stops, some guy justs pulls out the first freshly baked pizza in like 25 years. the fighting then momentarily stops when everyone starts to smell the pizza as they walk through the warzone holding the pizza.

@shak99 omg. You stole this quote from King of Queens of Arthur Spooner when he explains the war in Italy and a random guy opened a shop and baked pizza pies. And its all all war had disappeared.
Its sooo obvious!!

When I read the book i thought that, if done right, this would make one hell of a movie. Boy did they EVER do it right. Instant classic.

It kinda reminded me of 28 Days Later, what really sucks you in is the atmosphere.

this movie sucked so much, it's unbelievable that so many like it. unrealistic and just plain bad.
hattalah 4 months ago
@hattalah To be taken seriously, do you have any real criticisms of the movie? Because it is a masterpiece in my, and many other people's opinions.

@BlandAnimal
4) why would everyone else be able to get kids cuz that nigger did?
now it's your turn. tell me why it was so god damn good
hattalah 4 months ago
@hattalah i disagree w/ all of your points, so I personally think you're too dumb to relish the film.

@facecheek well if you are so clever, tell me WHY you think this shitty movie is so god damn good.

@hattalah I honestly think you didn't understand the concepts of the film. Try something like 'Big Momma's House'?
lozimia 4 months ago
@lozimia No, please tell me if you do, cuz im interested in hearing. I just understand that it sucked.
hattalah 3 months ago
@hattalah Cuz?, if you're not going to use actual spelling I won't bother arguing.
lozimia 3 months ago
@lozimia see, everyone just rage at me because i didn't like the movie, but you can't tell me WHY it was good. I can see why it might have moved some people, but I myself thought it was slow, boring and unrealistic.
hattalah 3 months ago
@hattalah Well, It had an immense sense of realism and plausibility, though set in the future, it reflected the world of today in so many ways and yet; remained original. It's cinematography was fresh and pleasing, some scenes lasting 5 minutes without cuts (this is rarely done in mainstream film). Performances, even from extras, are astounding. It's theme of hope was also extremely enlightening for audiences and were more emotionally invested in it as a result of it's theme and plot.
lozimia 3 months ago
@lozimia well all of those things combined might be the reason why i didn't like the movie :p thanks for answering.
