  • @bakulbharadwaj, you're wrong! That's supersonic. Sound barrier travels faster than transoniic and that F-18 fighter jet wasn't flying at Panasonic speed. It's a supersonic jet.

  • did yall hear chris griffin yeeeaaaahhhhh

  • legal

  • I Know Its Awsome , But I Want To See The Pilot His Face :D

  • JONES BEACH AND NO IT WASNT SUPERSONIC UGHHH OK PEOPLE BEFORE YOU POST VIDEOS DO YOUR HOMEWORK ITS SUBSONIC THEY EVEN SAY IT AT AIR SHOWS THE HIGH SPEED PASS IS JUST BELOW SUPERSONIC THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER SO ITS .99!!

  • yaaay

  • What the sound barrier being broken REALLY SOUNDS LIKE

    Rookies

    watch?v=jqdbCGzmCfg

  • that is not a sonic boom you ignorant.

  • I don't think those spectators would handle that boom too good.

  • he didnt break the sound barrier, just messing with it

  • he was flirting with the sound barrier what a legend!

  • I think I just jizzed

  • great sound and great plane!

  • Ronaldo !!

  • Comment removed

  • whoop de doo they want you to think he broke the sound barrier it was subsonic, he was pretty close though its always fun to see a high speed pass

  • the guy in the damn video even say he didnt break it lol

  • FAG

  • BTW....That was not a sonic boom, and not faster than the S.O.S.

  • I wish i could fly in that f-18

  • if you put your mind to it, that can be you one day. Im determined to become a pilot. Im 17 and am taking flying lessons soon.

  • they shoudbe had goku do that

  • goku can do that and better

  • i agree with mmbz, at last sum1 who knows what theyre talking about

  • That was transonic, but definitely did not break the sound barrier

  • just to clear something up, a vapor cloud has nothing to do with breaking the sound barrier, it happens when theres a sudden drop in air pressure around the jet, this guy was flirting with mach 1

  • wait you can only pull 10g's right? just a question..

  • Depends on the duration. The average human can usually survive G loads in excess of 20 Gs, but that is just instantaneous Gs. Its about the limit at which your internal organs begin to tear away from their internal attachment points. Sustained Gs, however, the average Joe can usually only maintain consciousness up to just under 4 Gs. Beyond that, without proper physical conditioning and muscular techniques, blood no longer feeds oxygen to your brain and you lose consciousness.

  • Thanks :D

  • the record is only 11.5 Gs

  • actually no...the record is offically happened in June 1951 where John Paul Stapp survived a 46 g deceleration. Look it up on some historical military sites.

  • That pass was prolly .97 or .98 mach. He didnt break it but it was about as close as you get. I just saw one do a pass similar to that at the Kansas City Air Expo.

  • Nope, not even that high. Military jets doing demonstrations in the US rarely exceed 450 knots. ;)

  • Really? Now that I compare enough vids I see your point...the only thing I question is that the pilot of the Super Hornet at the KC Air Expo told me himself that it was the closest pass he had ever done nearing the speed of sound. He told me that they were flying at about .99 or .98 mach. That was where I was led to believe that he was doing the same. Thanks for the response though.

  • yea, didnt break sound barrier, they arent legally able to do it inless over oceans, or above i belive 30,000 feet, because once it does, it can cause windows to explode

  • Yep....ive heard a sonic boom twice...once in nevada over the desert and once in colorado. The pilot at the kc air expo told me that he came about as close as you can get to booming the airport. Anyway I know that guy who left the comment saying that he wasnt going over 450 kts dosent know much about what he is talking about.

  • one word amazing i wish i could try that expereince

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THE:

98 POINT 98 Mach. That is very seeable. As in just below mach 1

  • As a naval aviation specialist, I know that this F/A-18 Hornet DID NOT break the sound barrier! If it would have, a distinct sonic "boom" would have been audible as it flew by. It came close though, travelling at "transonic" speeds probably about mach 0.8. The vapor cloud that you see is technically known as "Prandtl-Glauert singularity", the point at which a sudden drop in air pressure occurs causing a visible condensation cloud also known as a "vapor cone", "shock-collar" or "shock egg".

  • Since when does cloud stick to stuff? As a hairdresser I would say this phenomenon is obviously plasma as the plane is going like 1000+

  • Knighthis, Where did you see an F-18F up here two weeks ago??? I was just at the Mcchord Airshow and the F-18 got the cloud to form and it was awsome!!! Missed the picture by a split second. Was it at olympia? Cuz that was a F-18C and I didnt see a cloud form. So just when and where did you see an F-18F up here get cleared to do a high speed pass?

  • .98 POINT 98 Mach. That is very seeable. As in just below mach 1

  • 98 mach?...kidding right??if its speed is 98 mach it wouldnt even shown at the camera..:D

  • Guys Guys Guys!

They are not allowed to break the sound barrier at shows like this. It would break windows and ear drums.

The jets is going about .98 mach. The pressure wave is building up as the air is compressed by the speed and can't get out of the way fast enough. This high pressure are causes the condensation so you can see it.

I just saw this yesterday in Tacoma Washington when an F/A-18F did a high speed pass just like this.

Trust me, I know this stuff!

    Steve

  • Yup. No sonic booms over the continental United States unless in restricted military zones.

And morons who say "you wouldn't be able to catch it on camera," just try faster then. And a cloud doesn't necessarily form during a sonic boom. It can form whenever the airciraft and surrounding air heat up to a certain point to form a vapor cloud.

  • It doesn't always blow ear drums, I was at RAAF Tindal when an F-111 went supersonic down the runway for a camera crew, just sounded like a giant blanket being ripped then a big bang, no louder though then firing a shotgun from your shoulder.

  • Then it wasn't supersonic. ;)

  • it go boom

  • No sir, that is the sound barrier being broken. Notice how you can't hear the plane until it's already gone by a bit? Yeah... Out running it's own sound.

  • that is a bullet

  • white stuff is air condensation. Where was the teltale "BOOM"?

  • The guy said he never broke it, he was flirtin with it. Yeah right. The telltale sign you broke the sound barrier is the noise and smokey white disfigurement coming off the back of the plane.

  • Ok no sonic boomm, anyway excellent shot, very suggestive.

  • It takes a lot of thrust to break the sound barrier. I dont think this was breaking the barrier. Can someone evaluate.

  • ya there was no sonic boom

    not fast enough, but close

  • No sonic boom, so it's pretty obviously not. Even the guy in the background on the video realizes that. The condensation cloud happens when humid air is rapidly decompressed behind the high pressure nose-wake of the plane. It doesn't require transonic flight. Supersonic condensation clouds usually appear *entirely* behind the plane. Search for "F-18 goes supersonic" to see one.

  • unbelaivible :P

  • If you watch "Breaking the sound barrier" posted by "angryhoboz" you can clearly hear the double boom.

  • I suggest you research the sound barrier, and get a better source for aircraft ID. This FA-18C built by Boeing, did not break the sound barrier. It did reach transonic speed, at which the Prandtl- Glauert Singularity occurs, under the correct atmospheric conditions. No boom boom, no sound barrier end.

  • +1 my friend. You are correct. It amazes my how stupid some people are.... lol!

  • I think its strange that some define a visual event, with an audio interpretation. What the hell this is youtube, and I enjoy some of the theories. Its like, physics taught by Cheech & Chong.

    peace

    Sundog

  • The camera mic cannot capture the real sound. Its just too damn loud.

  • i love it this is wo i call coolll

  • He passes the barrier exactly as he passes the tower and this is prob' why the sound cuts out there. Super cool.

  • no boem?

  • there is no boom because the jet never truly broke the barrier, just matched it it seems

  • i want to touch the pilot ;]

  • imgine, breaking the light barrier! that would be weird to look at...

  • actually you wouldn't even see it because its going faster than the speed of light.

  • hes breaking the sound barrier moron, not the light barrier.

  • I'm responding to the guy above me MORON so check your sources before you confront people.

  • you still can hear the jet after it hit the sound barrier no?

  • pretty soon they are going to have trains breaking the sound barrier! lol if its possible

  • They are used for high seep testing and pieces tend to disintegrate from shockwaes.

  • LoL so why are you here posting stupid things?

  • LoL so why are you here posting stupid things?

  • You stupid ignorant bitch!!! You dont know what the fuck you're talking about!!!!

  • thats just about as close as you can get without breaking the barrier

  • thats deff not ah sonic boom..thats just ah cone formed from the moisture in the air u cant break the sound barrier over land! unless other wise told to

  • i don't get you idiots on youtube it's more of an intelect war with you M.I.T wannabees do you guys just look at videos and anylize the physics all day and argue like a bunch of yancie school girls all day.....GET A FUCKING GIRL! MATE you will have all the arguing your little over achieving heart desires trust me

  • Wow! You join YouTube 17 days ago and suddenly you know everything there is to know about people on YouTube?! We are discussing videos, numbnuts! If you lack the mental capacity to keep up, then...don't go away mad...just go away. Clear enough for you?

  • Did you just quote a 90 hair band song in your come back to my momment jesus man I can fucking google a better comment than that you prick

  • Ummm...no. It was a common saying long before any hair band used it in a song. It took you 5 months to come up with that response. Honestly, there is nothing funnier to watch than someone making a post just to tell others to stop posting because what we are saying somehow got his panties in a wad.

  • hahahahah ur definately one of the stupid people u speak of everything u said is false except for the aircraft ur referring to F-18 i dont know were u got ur information from but whoever gave it to u should kill themselves and there family friends and pets u should never post a comment on youtube again there should be penalties u get for stupid comments like your sentenced to 1 month of no comments u should just get the electric chair... MORON!

  • u said there was no sound barrier.. what kind of aviation degree do u have?? the statements u made were dumb and i believe ur lying about ur so called aviation degree. i like how everybody is giving u a thumbs down on ur last comment lol and i think 21 is pretty far from a little kid so go fuck urself assassyn douche

  • well, the sound barrier isn't exactly a MYTH, but it's kind of more like an imaginary thing used to describe moving faster than sound easier. This guy was flying at transonic speed, which is at the speed of sound. when you say "time would cease to exist" that was when they were talking about the speed of LIGHT.

  • Ignorant people eh? I know what your talking about.

  • These American fighter planes definitely have something erotic about them, haven`t they ?

  • 40. The answer you're looking for is 40.

  • nothing compared 2 a UFO

  • ok enjoy "MAC and ME"

  • he was actually right on the verge of breaking it

  • thats insain, Shit.

  • if u break the sound barrier then everyhting under or around the plane would be blown away. Discovery channel people

  • Exactly right. The shock wave at that distance would cause pretty substantial injuries to the spectators.

  • then it would be cheaper to use than JDAM's.

  • Oh ok. I must have read the TITLE wrong above the video. DUDE! Grow up.

  • Hey everyone. I am the one who filmed this F-18 in Sept. 2004 at the Oceana NAS airshow.

I just stumbled across this and laughed at the ignorance of this poster of my vid. Get this as I'll only write it once.....

HE DID NOT BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER! It was only a high speed pass at the airshow. Even the person who I caught on audio standing next to me said, "he never broke it, but he was flirtin' with it." What more needed to be said?

    Ed Langworthy

  • how are you gonna call me ignorant. I never said that the plane broke the sound barrier dude so get lost and go home.

  • Nope, it isn't. ;) I don't want to start a fight or anything with you though. Its still a cool video. Thanks for posting it. :D

  • im just gonna tell you to check wikipedia. capabilities to reach mach 1.8

  • I know what its capabilities are, dude. I'm just saying that the F-18 in this particular video is not flying at supersonic speed. I've heard lots of sonic booms in my career, and that's not one of them. ;)

  • well i forone never said it was a sonic boom. lol. ;)

  • No, but you do say in the description something about it breaking the sound barrier. ;) Maybe you should say something like "Look at the wake turbulence cloud being formed around this F-18 as it passes at subsonic speed." Heh...I guess it doesn't have the same ring to it...kinda boring. Its cool though, man, its just a video. :D

  • i just copied down the title of the original video where i got it from. i guess i should have changed the name a while back.

  • Nah, its really not a problem, Andre. Just wanted to keep you from being totally misled. There are lots of these kinds of vids on the internet. There is one real one though, I'll see if I can dig up the link so you can see and hear what it really looks like.

  • v=L7At5Jfc3LM

There's the video link, just paste it into your address bar after the question mark.

  • why would it go supersonic near land thouhg? that can deaf poeple.

  • That was not over land in the video I linked, it was over the ocean. Aircraft travel at supersonic speeds all the time over land though, just in restricted areas. The Space Shuttle reentry was my "alarm clock" on several occasions at Edwards AFB.

  • ohok, because it looked near to the shore.

  • That was a US Navy ship that the video was taken from. ;)

  • That was an airshow over land you obviously didn't hear the commentator talking. Turn up your volume.

  • This Hornet is not Supersonic. That is NOT a sonic boom.

  • It's illegal to The airforce in holland to break a sound barrier. Last night we had one. I'd never heard it before. Half the city called the emergency number they thought it was an explosion.

  • The guy behind the controls inside the jet has BALLS.

  • Can a F-4 do that easily??

  • very easily just needs a long run

  • flying fast because R-73 and R-77 is gonna get him..

  • Oh boy, loookeee here, another Sukhoi worshiper. Too bad they didn't get to launch their R-73s or 77s 'cause we'd have taken out their crappy carriers and decrepit airfields.

  • you've taken out a Russian plane and in Russian airspace/carrier? are you still dreaming?

all america can bomb and shoot down are the military of an ill financed and trained military.

did the american's stood up against a formidable opponent?

  • Okay dumbnuts, find one "formidable opponent" who has launched R-73s/77s at us "and have lived to tell about it" then post a video about it. That's right, there's none, even the trash flown by the Russians.

No, I'm not "dreaming". Learn more English before running your mouth. I said "We'd have" for "We would have", in prepositional tense. Hasn't happened yet, but we could have if we needed to.

  • hey idiot its a sarcasm dipshit, i gues your brain can't think that much, isn't it huh?

yeah those opponents never got the chance to fire because they lack training. and thats what i'm saying you can shoot only those ill trained pilots.

  • "Sarcasm" my ass. You really believe Russian-made systems and even training are worth anything, which is pathetic, but go ahead and fool yourself.

And no, dumbass, saying "we'd + have" turns "we had" from 'past tense' into 'future prepositional'; not a "prediction" but a "statement of possibility".

I wasn't born in the USA and even I learned that much.

As for my "brain can't think" question, it's not "isn't it huh" but "can it, huh".

Go back to your tutor; your English still sucks.

  • you'e very confused idiot. you are the one who used "we'd" and meant "we would have"

if my english sucks? how can i call your english? is that monkey english?

  • LOL! Once again you ignored the "have". Okay let me word it out, okay, "we had have" is how it comes out.

It's called "American English" confined by YouTube limits, which is better than your broken attempt. Say it fast enough & it comes out as "we'd have"; a perfectly acceptable use for conversation.

But, I doubt Русский fans like you can work at that level, no?

  • had and have are different. you don't get that, do you?

  • LOL! Apparently you don't understand colloquialisms. Still stuck?

What do you think someone means when he says, "I'd help you if I could, but I can't."

"Had" is not the only use for an "apostrophe d". I guess they didn't discuss that beyond your grade school.

  • boneheads just don't understand that had and would are different.

    you used "i and would/ i'd" instead of "i will/i'll"

good luck with your english, you're a waste of time.

  • LOL good luck too, finding a new tutor! Your old teachers indeed wasted your time.

Of course had and would are different. One is regular past tense and the other is irregular future prepositional. Meanwhile you're still stuck on regular tenses.

Nobody says, "I'll help you if I could", Would is to Could while Will is to Can. It's not a question of Can vs Cannot.

Go back to reading Russian aircraft data sheets and similar trash.

  • A small poem especially for you:

    Roses are red,

    Tulips are blue.

    When God was giving brains,

    Where the hell were you...

  • Hahah! Cute. Did you come up with that all on your own? Probably not. We could ask the same of you. Apparently "You were absent too", seeing as tulips are NOT Blue.

Your hatred of America has apparently impaired your ability to properly learn, quote and steal even such a basic wisecrack. At that pace, your english will never rise above a child's level.

And: It's "Violets are blue", dipshit!

  • you're really an idiot, it was edited dumbass.

and it really shows you're a birdbrain, there's a blue tulip asslicking twit!

  • Hahaha, finchie you crack me up! This is better than seats at the comedy club! I thought I was "a waste of your time"?

First it's "sarcasm" for your lame attempt at promoting Russian tech. Now your mistake was an "edited" piece?

Violets are predominantly blue, hence their name and use in that old poem. Tulips are predominantly pink, so who in their right mind would use them as an example?

Oh yeah, the Russian pilot whose cock you're too busy sucking. Same one teaching you English?

  • BTW "we'd" is short for "we had"

"we would have" is different dumbass.

"we had" is past tense while "we would have" if future tense.

  • Im sure there is a grammer and spelling website out there for You QUEERS. Get a fukin life

  • grammer? my ass..

  • No, finchie, if English was actually your first language (which it clearly isn't), you would know that RingSight is correct. The contraction "We'd" is exactly as he said it was. It is short for "We would". So, RingSight saying "We'd have", is the same as saying "We would have". There! I hope that clears it up for you.

  • yes, and that is not the point. "we would have" and "we can" has different meaning.

i didn't say it was my first language but you don't have to be an english to know how to speak english.

don't you know that even in america there are some 10milion mericans that can't read? thats the proof that even you're first languge is english it doesn't mean they know how to write it.

can you find america in the world map? alot of americans can't.

  • C-L-O-S-E.

  • He didn't break it. Very very very close, but their was no sonic boom following the cloud. Several times the air cloud formed but it wasn't getting fully out of it.

  • for the people who said the fa 18 can't break the sound barrier type in F-18 BREAKING SOUND BARRIER click the 4th one, the one that has a guy in the little box.

  • not at low lvl when it have ordenance or much fuel

  • Who cares. It was loud, it sounded cool, it looked cool, fast looking and it still had all of that fluttery white cloud behind it. Didn't it? Good enough for me to be called breaking the sound barrier. Anyone else?

  • what does it meant to break sound berrier

  • the jet is going so fast the it is moving fast then the speed of sound

  • and to be even more exact the speed of sound in other speed measurements is:

    1,116.4 feet per second

    340.3 meters per second

    761.2 mph

    1,225.1 kilometers per hour

    661.5 knots

  • thnxs dude... i neede that info

  • i've seen the argument earlier in these postings in which one person said the f-18 is going 760mph and someone said thats wrong because the sound barrier is broken at 750mph. that person is incorrect...to break the sound barrier at sea level, (which the f-18 is slightly above in the video) you would have to be going 761.207051 mph. thats the sound barrier.

  • He didnt fully break it just caught up to it.

  • THIS JET DIDNT BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER!

    Where was the Sonic Boom?

As the guy said, "He didnt break it, he was only flirting with it"

  • peut-il rivalisé avec un OVNI ???

  • est bonne....

  • Somebody please help! Im confused about how this works!

  • are you stupid? you know they have jets that can go mach 2(2 times the speed of sound) and higher. and also space shuttles smash the speed of sound before they leave the atmosphere

  • i know! fitih13489 what the hell is wrong with you. are you retarded or something?

  • The words of a fool...

  • ofcourse u can break a sound barrier, are u a freshmen or what?

  • no its not dumbass. read a book for christ's sake.

  • THANK YOU gosnold1..u know how this works...apperantly some one doesnt

  • Uhm, are you slow? I mean explain the video. Explain the whole jets MADE to go mach 2. DUMBASS.

  • wow your smart

  • you suck

  • tu suçe

  • yes :) subsonic...

  • Excellent fly by and vertical climb. Love that vapor trail!

  • nah, subsonic speed here

  • Where is the boom ?

No boom , No supersonic flight !

  • It's called transonic flight and usually occurs in the neighborhood of Mach 1 (0.8 to 1.2 to be exact) depending on the air density. This is a result of some of the airflow over the craft being supersonic, while some is not. These differences can further be explained using Bernoulli's principle.

  • That shit rattled my windows..

  • He didn't break the sound barrier, but still a sweet high-sub sonic run. Vexle hit it spot on. The moisture is condensed into fog at the boundaries of different air densities. It's called "angel dust."
