  • @uberape. Agreed all Hondas and toyotas are notoriously reliable, maintained half as well as they should be they are invincible

  • is this the mk2 or mk3? and nice was bout 6 seconds =]

  • THAT THING GOT A TURBO IN IT!?!?!?!

    lol..

  • its not his mr2 its a video game you guys i have a mr2 and mine has over 300k miles on it and still runs extremly stong definetly a very reliable car

  • morre like 0-120

  • @crf250rider14 Agreed. All the way around is 140. You have a turbo faceplate on it.

  • Sorry to burst your bubble...

  • unless it is the 3sge they might have made the tack reach 160.....

  • I was gonna get a newly listed 2002 MR2 with only 29k miles for 12k. I had been saving my money cuz I needed a new car and saw that bad boy on KBB at a dealership only 60 miles from me. Alas, I live in NE Ohio where it can snow 3 ft in one day. And the salt is bad. I heard these do alright with some snow tires, but since the economy has gone to shit they only plow during business hours and this would have had to have been my primary transportation. Oh well. Some other lucky bastard snagged it.

  • is this with a beams 3S?

  • Mine blew up head gasket went but its started first time and run well lol r.i.p my j.spec mr2 buying one in couple of months so its all good!! :-)

  • N/A MR2's will do 140? thats pretty impressive, considering supras will only do 160 stock.

  • Strange no boost gauge but a turbo tach; redline is too high for n/a.

  • Or because there's no boost gauge, just battery indicator. Same as my SW20 :)

  • any one who know anything can tell its n/a the turbos are a whole difrent story

  • why are you debating about it being NA, if you wanted to know...between the tach and the speedo...BATTERY GAGUE, not boost, theres your proof now just shut up

  • @Jesieke I'm just finishing up swapping a 3rd gen into my 93 NA. It still has a voltage gauge in the middle. Obviously I'll be remedying this when I get some cash from parting out the 5sfe, but the presence or lack of a voltage gauge proves nothing, especially with how popular the swaps are, how many different places an aftermarket boost gauge can be mounted, and how easy it is to wire a voltage gauge.

  • slow as fuck starts struggling after 100.... i bet even a french car can easily out accellerate that E.G. citreon saxo VTS...

  • Prepare to wrap up some bloody knuckles if you have to work on it. Absolutely worth it though. Drove my 85 from Dallas to Manhattan and back. Got to play with a Jag in Kentucky on a long straight stretch 20 miles or so. Back and forth without any radar detection. Best $3500.00 I ever spent. It had 98,000 when I bought it.

  • dude mr2 a factory turbo

  • im only 18 and i got an mr2 :) it aint a turbo tho.. sadly lol i wouldnt be able to insure it

  • @jack001122 You do not have to believe me at all, just dont go mad and swear etc. (and everybody else). But i own an MR2, a 1990 3S-GE, I have the car because I just wanted something to tinker with for my birthday(i dont drive it) (were looking for a small car i.e. a fiesta of something) but with some luck, i found my car up for £350 non runner, so i had it for my birthday, had a new alternator fitted, and it runs absolutely amazing!

  • @alexevo1111 AND I AM 14

  • nice stock, lmk when you can jump from 60 -140 in 7 seconds.

  • whats a better car to get, mr2 or celica? (2001+)

    im still deciding...hard choice

  • @Detrucci celice gts? go for it specially with a 6speed

  • @Detrucci If you need some form of practicality, the Celica. If you need it strictly to transport yourself, minimum cargo, and another passenger, and want the ride of your life, MR2.

  • mr2s are the worst car ever takes all day to get up the clock dirtbox

  • It seems like the 2nd generation (Early 1990's) MR2's are more popular for pumping lots of Horsepower.... But they weigh up to 600 lbs more than the 1985-88 version. I like the first generation the best. They weigh only 2200 lbs and handle like a skateboard. Few cars can match it in the corners, um a Mazda Miata is also excellent.

  • ah i want this gauge set up =]

  • yes theyre very reliable cars.

my 88 has over 270k on it

    and still running strong

  • erm. get friends?

  • k dont get upset

  • 60 mph in first? What is it, an auto? The manuals are speed limited to 138mph.

  • yes RX7FD, lol i wouldnt say rx7s are the handle type cars, mines uncontrolable, i would say its a straight line car, does 120mph in 3rd gear and sometimes is still wheelspinning, its got big turbo lag so its quite slow in lower revs but once that turbo kicks in its like a rocket.

  • FD's are well known for their handling, if yours doesn't handle there's gotta be something wrong with the suspension.

  • it wheelspins too much, its gt 500hp, i got a T51R on it and its got long turbo lag, turbo kiks in bout 4000rpm, but once it kiks in wheelspin everywhere, sometimes i can get it to wheelspin in third on dry, trust me uncontrolable

  • runnin a little hot

  • Are Mr2s very reliable? and do they cost a lot to fix?

  • @ty538 i have a mr2 turbo that has been my daily for 2 years its a blast to drive and has not costed me too much....yes very reliable...check out my vids of my car

  • @ty538 i think my MR2 (the one in the vid) had done almost 160k miles and was still going very strong! brilliant little cars and would def own one again :)

  • @T180985 is yours stock and what was the 0-60 it looked like it was in the 6 second range?

  • The engines in these cars are really quite unbelievable...... id say bullet proof but you'll get some freak on here shooting at 1 in a video reply.

  • @ty538 mines done 160k miles and shes sound

  • @ty538 they are extremely reliable, i have one right now, and it's got a ton of miles on it. but it still pulls just as hard. They're extremely fun to drive too. Just make sure you don't have to replace the alternator lol. it'll set you back like 300+ if you do it yourself, and like 500 if you get someone else to do it :s

  • @ty538 Well they're built by toyota and share the same engine as a few other small toyotas, so they're as bullet proof as a sports car is going to get.

I've got an N/A 92 Mr2 its done 280,000km's and it starts great, runs great, and nice and quick. Hasn't been rebuilt. Only thing thats wrong with it is the suspension is on the way out. Not bad for 280,000km though.

  • @ty538 They're as reliable as sports cars get, its a toyota afterall so its near bullet proof.

Most parts aren't too expensive, as they share much in comon with Celicas and other Toyota cars.

Mine has almost 300,000km on the clock and it starts first time every time and after -10 nights. However, the suspension does need an upgrade, still got stocks on it.

  • @ty538 They are very reliable but they are a pain to service and fix.

Also they eat tyres like crazy if you drive the car with any enthusiasm.

That said the ownership experience is the best I've had.

I have another car as my daily drive now after 70,000+ miles in the MR2 but I can't bring myself to sell the MR2.

Mine's at 148K miles and is still bulletproof reliable.

    Highly recommended.

  • @ty538 If it's got a Toyota or Honda badge on the front. It will never break down.

  • @UberApe until you swap motors from an n/a to a turbo...

  • @UberApe ill agree with the Toyota part but honda, meh

  • @UberApe My Toyota has made it to 390km. Hard, sideways, tire smoking kilometers. Never a break down, only needed superficial parts and expendables. The problem is, now I am spoiled and expect nothing less. F*cking Toyota has spoiled me for life: )

  • @UberApe I disagree, I know of a lot of MK2 MR2s that had the big ends go (including mine). Engine swap to repair worked out cheaper at the best part of £1500 (2004/2005ish). Apart from that and the few problems the new engine had with it's cracked thermostat housing (that required the engine to be removed to be replaced!) and the clutch being replaced (wear & tear, £600), then the tyres it used to eat on the insides only... other than that it was reliable and a great car.

  • @ty538 unlikely it'll break down but anything like a clutch, timing belt, drive shafts, down pipe are all VERY expensive to replace with new parts at a main dealer and even specialists. Great little cars, but I'd go for one after you've done some serious research as to what's needing doing at what mileage

  • @ty538 toyota mr2s are definetly worth a buy my mr2 has over 300k miles on it and it still runs strong im starting to notice a few things now but nothing that new tires oil change and maybe a tire rotation wont fix

  • LOL you clearly have no idea what you're talking about... But I guess you're one of those asses that goes around trying to get a rise out of people. So to you I say, get a life!

  • i like MR2's, their quick but not rapid. and i do no what im talkin bout i have driven them many times and raced em many times

  • Well, I would by no means would call them slow.. for a car that came out in 1991 with a stock (mr2 turbo) 0-60 time of 5.9 sec and top end of 150.. My old mr2 turb0 had just a few bolt-ons and a boost control and I waxed vettes, 911's and other fast cars all day.. Mr2's may not be super fast like a supra, but they are very quick. You must have been driving some bone stock N/A's, that needed a tune up, to think they are slow.

  • i suppose that is pretty fast, i have an RX7 now with 500bhp and so most cars feel quite slow to me now, the MR2 i drove had bout 300bhp

  • 500hp gen 3 rx7?? Man those are sweet!! easily one of the best looking cars to ever come from japan, and you gotta love that unique rotary.. But yeah, my mr2 was making roughly 300 Whp, so it was a bit faster than the one you drove (did 0-60 in about 4 flat).. but not quite 500 hp LOL... Still, Mr2's and Rx7's are more about the handling anyways, so 300 hp was enough for me.

  • downforce*

  • put a more aerodynamic spoiler so u can have more down first ^^

  • I took my little mk1 to 135 once and it just breezed up to that no problem with two people in. didnt want to blow anything and we were riding redline so i backed off a bit!

  • i agree with XXRichieXXrichXX . you can feel almost every bump when your going that fast

  • i have only a 2.0 Gti Mine hits 68 in 1st sounds like its gonna pop though do u think summits been done 2 it? its seems afully quick for a Gt.....only just got it.and XXRichieXXrichXX i know wat u mean i get to about 125 and its so bumpy and feel like i gna flick out so dunno bout top speed yet.

  • i was to afraid to get mine past 110 mph it just feels to light at them higher speeds

  • Yes its right hand drive but the speedometer is in MPH as they are sold in the UK

  • Yea this is a n\a but this is also KmPH not MPH.... The gas gauge is on the left so this is a RHD car therefor KmPH not MPH

  • This IS in MPH...he shifts 3 times and takes 18 seconds to break into the triple digits (100mph/kph) unless your car is WAY messed up or you're going REALLY slow it shouldn't take 3 shifts or 18 seconds to hit 62 MPH (or 100 kph) Now seeing as the redline is just over 7k he COULD have swapped out the N/A gauge faces with the Turbo gauge faces (which would require a recalibration of the needles) to make it look like he hit 140...turbo gauges read up to 160 N/A gauges read up to 140ish? I think...

  • Or it could be a Beams, which might read up to 160 and have a higher redline...AND it's Naturally asspirated too...so that could be it as well.

  • @mr21993

Can you not see the great big letters "MPH" in the middle of the clock?

  • @horseburger ROFL!

  • wrong its in MPH you idiot

  • Nvm I see you're in UK... Wanna sell that instrument cluster? =D

  • I love the white face gauges is this an Aussie G-limited with the 3sge? Since it reads MPH it can't be JDM.

  • holy shit. That is fast and cheap price on market 2. I want one. What year and how much you bought your?

  • its said 1992 ;) !

i have the exact same one :D

  • The engine kinda loud. If you driving at night, it might concern about neighbor going rampage.

  • haha

you know you got the AIR FILTER right behind you , thats realy cool :)

  • You can hear *my* MR2 about a half mile away, lol. I have occasionally purposefully used it to disturb the peace. ;D heheh

  • When driving, there no "PEACE" lol hehehe. You know what I mean! Anything can happen. "72 years old woman driving on highway for 20 miles an hour" SWEET ISN'T IT? Does she get home safely, or what happen to her? ehehhe

  • @StarryStarify LMFAO over & over. Its gotta be done mate. Same here I love setting the car alarms on a narrow road near me but its getting a bit risky as gettin spotted down there too much :)

  • I've owned both N/A and now i got the gts turbo and it blows the N/A away! I compaired my turbo to this and it takes this car 16 secs to get to 100mph with a 20mph rolling start, mine takes under 12 from launch! The turbo is the same money and their just as reliable. Im not knocking the N/A though im just giving my views of them both! The turbo is so underestermated by other sports car owners it shocks them when the get dusted by a k-reg tyota!

  • nice complete info!!

'cause i've been wanting to get an mr2 but i don't know which one and since i live in cali people keeps telling me to get the N/A it's more reliable.. but know i got this info coming from you which is an ex N/A driver i think ima get the turboed one :)

  • No prob mate! Get the turbo cos you'll pay around the same money for one and its such a great performance car for the money! I've had mine 4 years and only burnt the clutch out in it (my ault for cocking around) its such a realiable engine! Dont over boost it though just stick to sensible mods that are done properly or it will fuck up on you! Good luck fella!

  • it's not like ima race with it i'm just so fascinated the way it looks like...only if i have the info you gave me back when i picked up my first car i would've pick mr2 but i have no regrets with me sentra.. now no one is stopping me from getting one of my dream car :D

and i'm not a boost freak 7lbs is good for me :D

  • mines runnin 16.2 psi all day every day. so cool

  • Please taze me for a long time

  • I also own an na like this and they truly are beautiful and amazing cars indeed. I wonder in awe on a daily basis and currenrly have my mr2 spread around in hundreds of pieces :S! Great inspiration! Take care.

  • what kid of fuel are you runing ?

  • would have been 97ron unleaded i think

  • i had a mr2 g limited and lookin at the gear changes id say thats right 70 in second is spot on for that car mine was a 1993 btw. they are awesome

  • I wouldn't know i've never drove one, i'll take your word for it.

  • Mine has the 5sfe 2.2 by the way and I'd like to make it a 5sfte

  • I've owned both the turbo and N/a versions of the mk2 and the turbo is a beast even if it's stock and the n/a I have now is still pretty quick without turbo, just has exhaust and cold air but still good eselleration without the turbo.

  • i have n/a and it tops out at 130

  • Judging from the redline on the tach it's a 3gse and yes they are that fast without a turbo.

  • So this is N/A what does N/A mean? Just standard?

  • naturally aspirated, so yes standard, no supercharger or turbocharger

  • im too scared to go that fast! : S

  • i think some of the problem is, anyone who has not driven one of these, dont know how well they go, so are having throuble believing its not an NA.

  • So you're telling me it's supercharged?

  • I cant believe after 3 years people are still debating if this is a NA. this is the score simply

This is a UK rev2 3S GE with 158 bhp

    rev 1 and 2 3S GE 158bhp

    rev 3 and 4 3S GE 173-8 bhp

    rev 5 3S GE (JDM only) 197bhp

ALL 3SGE redline at 7200 rpm same as a turbo

    USDM

    5s FE 130-5 BHP redlines at 6rpm

There should be no more question about this now, but i bet there will be -_-

  • @odin5

    Your figures are wrong pal

    Rev1-2s the earlys were 120bhp

    Rev3-4 158bhp

    Rev5->173bhp

Rev 5 Beams engine 197bhp(extremely rare)

    This a N/a I agree

  • @richandnik

Um no i think you are not quite right

The engine you are talking about with 120bhp is the 3S-FE one, they were sold in small numbers in Rev 1 form it had no rear spoiler or fog lights.

Most rev 1-2 came with the 158bhp engine

and you are wrong again about the rev 3-4 (JDM) engine it came with 178bhp or 180ps

Uk rev 4-5 came with 168bhp because of emisions

Look it up matey, I had a JDM rev 3 NA before i got my rev 3 turbo so i speak from experience.

  • @odin5

Those figures differ from what you quoted up there lol........hmm

You said 4-5 are 168 but up there your saying 5 is 197?

  • @richandnik -.- Lets just clear this up once and for all

UK Rev 4-5 had 168 JDM rev 3-4 had 178bhp because they didnt have to worry about getting round the emissions

JDM rev 5 Beams redtop came with the 197 bhp. If you know the SW20 you will know i am right or maybe you are just joking around either way happy motoring.

  • I see its clearly an N/A but whats with the 7000 redline?? I thought a beams redtop 3S revved harder? Or is that JDM model only?

  • Its obvious its an N/A. Look at the middle of the clocks. It shows a battery meter.

The turbo has a turbo boost guage.

Those who no nothing about mr2's should keep their mouths shut.

I have owned 3 mr2's and no more than enough to say this video is of a N/A car.

  • Turbo 0-60 6.2 secs

    N/A 0-60 7.7 secs

Taken from the official toyota specification.

Its plain to see whats faster.

  • good video man, bit slow for a turbo,,,,lol,,,,only jokin, i love those mid engined rockets

  • Those 3sge go well don't they? It certainly isn't turbo.

  • this is deffo an n/a. i have an n/a and mine is exactly the same,. turbo will be alot quicker than this.

  • its gt a turbo he just tock it out to replace it

  • oh ffs i give up with the rtards on here look im telling you its an n/a!!!!!!! if it was a turbo it would be alot faster

  • haha this was my car lol not a mate of a mate of a mate of some random i met in a park once lol i owned the damn thing so i think i know exactly what the car was and as ive said countless times the car in the video is a 2.0 n/a mr2

  • I thought that n/a's were 2.2 & turbos were 2.0...?

  • FAIL

  • Not the 5s cars, the 3s N/A cars will.....fuel cut before 6k on the 5s....it's a Camry motor, literally.

  • no, 7 grand

  • Video updated with a note as despite the fact ive said several times that this IS a n/a some people are still convinced its a turbo. Hope this helps guys will be posting up some new videos soon

  • not bad

  • if it was a turbo the middle gauge would be a boost gauge not a volt meter. a turbo is faster then that. this one is probably a modded 5sfe? or maybe out of country 3sge.

  • This guys is right. It is a N/A. All N/A's have a battery guage in the middle, the turbo's have a boost guage.

Without a doubt its an N/A.

  • So I guess mr2's don't have a speed/rev limiter, or did the owner just disable it? I don't know much about toyota vehicles. I'm more of a nissan guy, but I love how the mr2 looks and the fact that it's a mid engine rwd car for a decent price.

  • i hope to buy one soon for all of those reasons.

  • correct me if im wrong but dont n/a mr2's redline at 6250? and this shown here is redlining at 7k.

    soo it's really a turbo'd mr2?

  • No. My N/A redlines at 7k.

If that was a turbo the gear changes would have to come in a lot quicker than this driver is doing.

  • No, NA's are geared shorter than the turbos to make up for the lack of power. If it was a turbo, the gear changes would have come later.

  • I don't see how that works. If it was a turbo it would have been a lot faster reaching the changes of gear, meaning the 0-140 would have been a lot quicker and he would have had to change gears faster.

I owned a n/a and have driven the turbo and the difference is huge. This is defo an n/a.You can tell just by the fact it don't have a boost guage. It has a battery guage in the middle.Turbos are all inports and have boost guages in where the battery guage lives.

  • The turbo doesn't have enough power to make up for the longer gearing, not enough to make a significant difference against the N/A car. You'll see the gains in the upper rev band on the turbo car (especially when compared to the 5sfe) and in higher speeds, but in lower revs and speeds, the low end torque of the N/A combined with short gears will match the turbo car.

  • My SW21 (NA) 5SFE redlines at 6300, however the 3SGE engines do redline at 7K just like the 3SGTE, plus a 5SFE which redlines at 6250 can't get up to 140MPH, the top speed for a 5SFE (in stock form) is about 122-128MPH depending on temperature and altitude, and options in the car. My car has basically no options except power windows, door locks and antenna. Which puts my cars weight at 2460lb according to the inside door panel.

  • Thats quick as hell for an n/a!!!

  • not but you have alot of fuel in the tank..

  • at what rpm does it start to pull ???

  • szit good:))

  • nice

  • wow it really ran out of power in 5th

  • Not bad at all for an n/a. Nice bro :)

  • So you can keep it redline or near redline and still increase in speed? MY speedometer gauge on my Celica goes up to 150 and once I get to 110 it looks as if about to redline so I stop. I tried to chase a Honda down for cutting me off on an open highway for no reason, but since he was in front of me 3 car lengths, I couldn't catch up (Stock 6th gen at the time, go figure) I just maintained the same distance until 110 and I just let off the gas by then.

  • hmmm. took a while didnt it?

  • not really for a 2litre n/a car it didnt

  • No.

My UK NA reads to 160mph

    EdShift

  • If that is an N/A than the speedo should only read up to 140.

  • yes its an N/A and from what i remember the US models were slightly different to the Euro ones

  • Check out the clip of my little 1988. It is twenty years old, non-turbo, completely factory, with 286,000 miles and will still do 109MPH. I have put it up for sale this week because I cannot complete the restoration while I am in school.

  • Whats the BHP? ~170?

  • no i think its 155Bhp Standard? i think rev3 onwards was 170bhp but also slightly heavier

  • i had a std rev2 with 173hp on the dyno

  • bhp means brake horse power, hp from the crank shaft (engine itself) usually 10-15% less than whp (wheel horse power)the true power

  • Horsepower at the wheels is less than power at the crank. The drivetrain causes power loss...not a miraculous gain in power.

  • Sounds lovely. How do the N/A MR2s compare with todays hothatches like the Type R & Clio sport>

  • with some fairly light mods i can image the top end will be similer around 140mph but tbh i doubt it would keep up with the CTR! the MR2 turbo would walk all over any of the hot hatches about today though

  • I managed 154 out of my 3sge but goosed the water pump. Got a 3sgte now but not managed to break this one yet

  • im hard.

  • top speed in mr2 is 245km/hr this is good if u dont wanna fuck ur engine lol.

  • SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • its a 2Litre N/A engine with just an induction kit

  • 140 mp/h =225km/h

how big engine do you got?

  • NICEEEEEEEE

  • lol...took a while but got there in the end....well done ;)

  • Well I have a na G-Limited with the 112mph speed limiter still fitted...guess how fast it will go? lol

  • ive a 330 bhp two but it will also only do 112-120 mph....:(

  • it will be close, lol

  • lol, im running 330 bhp, not great but the limiter is still on....lets have a race from 112mph...;)

  • i have a JDM Rev 3 with 173-5 bhp i had mine at 60 in under 7sec top speed around 145mph.

If u can avoid 5sfe and the 3sfe it will be sweet as they are sheep in wolves clothing :D

  • how fast is a rev3 173 bhp mr2 i think about 7.0 0-60 and 140mph max is this right?

  • Its not a 5sfe engine hes talking about retard! Its the 3sge in his car which I also own and it will go 140mph I have had it up gps verified 135 and there was more left. I just ran out of road. The 5sfe engine is crap full stop.

  • ok i have a mr2 2.2 rebuild engine and i wanted to know if my mr2 will keep up with a acura vtec can any on tell me please i need to noe as soon as posible tnk you
