I live in Phoenix AZ, I request this song on the oldie station, the first thing that comes out of there mouth is, never heard of it. And I thought my little hometown in FL (Pensacola) was behind. My apologies !
am i really 50 now ??? i was just a teen when this hit the airwaves. can you imagine simply turning on the radio & something like this coming on? that was over 30 years ago...i dare you to turn on the box NOWADAYS & hear what comes on...some crazy, synthed-out, autotuned, drum-machined noise with some no-singin' heffa who couldn't carry a tune in a Kroger sack... Bwaa, hand me my cane so i can knock the radio off da table...
Don't let me get started with my blend of The Whispers "And The Beat Goes On mixed with Stephanie Mills "Put Your Body In It" Then Arpeggio's " Love and Desire" mixed with Stephanie Mills "You Can Get Over"
As a amature club DJ I would open the intro chant with a slower tempo in a haunting echo reverb than at the 50 sec spot hit the tempo at the original groove and it was HOT! I wish I could remix it that way again. I kept it consistent with the style repeating the slow down at all the "Love, sweet love" bridge section. Then again at the 4:30 breakdown would again slow down and reverb..and back to the bridge again.
I was never into girl singers (at that time)...you know, "Men rule thing" but then I heard this song and went to the record and brought the album just because of this song. I didn't let the fellows know I brought a girly singer's album. I had clout at the rink so I told the DJ to play this cut but........."Say one of the girls requested it." PS. Don't yall tell the fellows either. It was 1979, Skate U. Roller Rink on Lisbon Milwaukee WI. Holler if you were there.
Yea! A couple years before this hit she had an album called "Experience Gloria Gaynor" and I had a (redneck) coworker in a retail store who thought it was Gloria Gay who was apparenly some drag queen performer.......those were the days.
I just remember droppin' the drink anywhere and grabbin' anybody to get to the dance floor when Miss Gaynor asked: Anybody wanna party? Such great memories! Thanks for the post.
get down...get down....boy, i wish i could snap my finger, open my eyes and find myself at the attic again cuttin to this....i wouldn't miss a beat! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MUSIC....BRING IT BACK!...get down.... get down...
i hve been looking for this track for ages. i have the original whis is a bit slower with a different intro but still a fantastic track .. thank you manuel salazar in albuquerque new mexico for giving me the album
This is the only Gloria Gaynor song they would play in the black clubs in Pensacola Fl. It also happens to be my favorite Gloria Gaynor song. Requested this on one of AZ oldies station, their reply: Are you sure you have the right artis. Talk about being slow. Have not heard this in about 13 years. Much love to whomever post this.
During disco you couldn't touch Gloria Gaynor, Carol Douglas, Donna Summer, Vickie Sue Robinson, Loleeta Holloway,First Choice, Thelma Houston,Cheryl Lynn, & Linda Clifford. Those ladies were queens of the dance floor for sure.
Yes! I do! Love the long version!

The first time I heard this record, was when Gloria sang this song on Dick Clark's "American Bandsand" in 1979. The dancers could not stop screaming.
