  • 2 points, the Orange costs about 1/3 of the Marshall. Being a budget amp, they also come with some pretty crappy tubes. When I retubed mine, it was like a whole new amp. And at the price point, an amazing value. Plenty of mods out there for it as well.

Both sound great. Different sounds though. The Orange sounds... like an Orange. People who like that will dig the tone. People who like a Marshall sound will prefer the Marshall.

Thanks for playing them side by side.

  • nice!!! i like Orange sound!!!!! great!

  • like em both ...

  • The Orange sounds much more nasally to me. The Marshall cuts through the mix much better in a band situation in my opinion.

  • They both sound pretty damn good! Thanks for sharing

  • very cool idea to do this video. thanx. Now I know why I love my 1986 Jcm 800 50w so much.

  • my ideal tone would be somwhere between those 2 amps. can the orange get any more high end than that?

  • the TT consistently sounds darker but isn't that how an orange is supposed to be?

  • ty for this video!!! damn this rocks

  • joe bonamassa plays a way amazing version of just got paid

  • Orange all the way

  • 0:42 name of song please

  • @Casteanguitar "Just Got Paid" by ZZTop

  • the marshall sounds so much better

  • Both are totally valid tones! They would sound great in a band with two guitarists playing those rigs together!

  • marchall the best!!!

  • Only Marshall!

  • is your 2204 modded in any way?

  • @youtubbin24 All original! wanna buy it?

  • @BigDaddyDishrags possibly?? depends on price.... would rather have the combo, i've gotten tired of lugging around halfstacks lol... doesn't mean i'm not interested though, allways interested....

  • @BigDaddyDishrags how much??

  • Marshalls eat Oranges for breakfast. I've had two Orange heads in the past, as well as a Matamp and my JCM800 is far more reliable AND sounds better! Just my opinion...

  • @capmkrob i don't agree, my AD30 absolutely demolishes every stock marshall ive ever played.

  • ORANGE GOBLIN!!!

  • i gotta say, its a tough call. ever split the signal and play both amps simultaneously? my buddy does that with his tiny terror and his fender twin, blending the american and british sounds makes quite a unique sound, i'd be interested to hear the two best (imho) british amps on the market blended up through that PRS.

  • A Marshall will squeeze a cleavland steamer on an orange.

  • @NickDiNunzio unless you dial it in right... or, ya know, have a different opinion....

  • The orange is more middy, and less sharp and clear, more vintage, but the marshall has vintage tone and clarity

  • @Disco234jockey Really? So the Orange is more vintage but the marsh has vintage? WTF GUY!

  • Both sound good, it sounds as I'd expect. I've had amps with el84's and amps with octal tubes EL34's/6550's etc The main difference to my ear is the mids, they sound a little more damped in the Marshall (which I like), but I'd gig either easily. Marshalls all the way fo me, but thats what I played out when I was gigging.

  • Curti mais o som do Orange!!

    abs!

  • throw away that prs and get a GIBSON

  • @holyass242 yeah, lets pay twice as much because a dead man's name is on the headstock! woo! fuck the little guy, that's what rock and roll's all about!

  • I like the highs and presence of the Marshall, but the lower mids and sag of the Orange.

  • @nuttocks1 I agree 100%. I would gig both simutaneously! Something about the orange that has more of a "live" sound, yet the articulation of the Marshall ca't be ignored. I am curious of the sound of both units clean. That's where the rubber meets the road.

  • Cool demo. Not sure these two should be compared but since they were I much prefer the "tone" of the Marshall.

  • the orange sounds better until at 155 you adjust it? whatever you did muddyd it up a bit-- but both really sound great--hard to believe thats the tiny terror--it seems to me the Orange 50 rockerverb played through 4-12s is vastly superior than its 50 combo with one 12, even at low volumes-- anyone agree ?

  • What are the settings on the amps?

  • It's always like...

    "ok, the orange sounds nice"

then you plug in the JCM800...

    "WOOOOOW THAT'S IT!!"

    :D

  • i think its amazing that they compare! the marshall is a $2000 head and the TT is about $860.. AND the orange has 15 watts vs the marshalls 100 watts. i think i may be an orange man...

  • ehhh they are both good legendary amps but orange is the way to go!!

  • Great video BigdaddyDishrags,,, I have to side with the Marshall but in saying this, it's like comparing apples and oranges,no pun intended. There two different animals. Yes that orange cab is fantastic but the t.t. is not a jcm 800 by any means. Bigdaddy i'm not telling you this, you know already. Just explaining to some of the younger crowd that may not be familiar with the inner working of both amps. I would love to hear the jcm 800 throught the orange cab, that would be cool. Nice vid

  • @glassbottleblues

look for my video "JCM800 2204 vs. Amplitube 3" you can hear the marshall thru the orange cab

  • have tinny terror power for gigs or practice with drums and other guitars? sorry, I cant speak english well :D

  • @gumolit666

    ya it's loud enough!

  • The OTT sounds beatifull on a 4x12

  • Darker Warmer and with heaps of cream on top, go the orange! And that's just the little tiny terror. My English ad30 head on that insane cab would be a better comparison against that delicious Marshall. Nice playing too:-)

  • are those bullets holes in the orange cab!!!!

  • Would be interesting to try the Marshall with the orange Cab... I bet it will sound awesome...

  • Thanks

  • Thanks

  • Is that a Heritage guitar?

  • @ckg1965 it's a PRS SE

  • marshall sounds best at least on you tube

  • Judging by what he's playing id say he prefers the orange.

  • Love It

  • just got paid!!!!

  • Marshall is better...no way !

  • that orange cab is awesome!

  • @Blazinnn89

ya we've been thru some shit together, I was thinking of getting a tattoo of it

  • @BigDaddyDishrags You soooo need to get that cab tattoo. That would be awesomeness +1. The only tattoo I regret, I got because it looked cool. Family/friend tats you'll never tire of. To hell with fashion/aesthetics, have something you love made permanent. And that cab looks like it's been a very good friend. If I had a cab that had been through the wars with me like that, I'd regret NOT getting it made permanent.

Oh, and that Tiny Terror kicks the Marshalls arse. I need to start saving.

  • can i have em both lol???

  • I think people fail to realize that 15 class-a watts will blow the hell out of any club I play in state capitol here for example. Take a Tine Terror and plug it into a Marshall 1960A 4x12 cabinet... holy crap, if that isn't enough volume mic it through the PA like you should anyway. Shoot, a single twelve or 2x12 cab sounds bad-ass too. Jimmy page taught us to run small tube amps and crank the shit out of it to to get some of the most bad-ass guitar sounds in recorded history.

  • both sound great! orange is smoother and JCM 800 is more mid scoop. good playin'

  • both sound great! orange is smoother and JCM 800 is more mid scoop.

  • hi, is the chinese version of the orange? or the hard wired?

  • @fransavoy

chinese tiny terror with better preamp tubes than the shitty stock ones. one went microphonic when the amp was 3 weeks old

  • @fransavoy

chinese tiny terror with better preamp tubes than the shitty stock ones. one went microphonic when the amp was 3 weeks old

  • The bassman started this whole mess. Marshall amps made most all the sounds heard in rock history. Myself I like the mid 70s master volume head JMP. I tried to like a few JCM 800 back in the day but they reminded me of ACDC and playing Cult songs. The mid seventies Marshalls sound great and I liked playing Aerosmith on them. Subjective. Tiny Terrors are good they could of added some more presence to its tone but I find but I forget about that once I play old Black Sabbath on them hah.

  • This isn't a fair comparison. Whether the TT was a head or combo (or even still through a cab) you can't compare. A 15 watt boutique amp versus a 100 watt half stack? That's like comparing the strenght of a three year old to a twenty-five year old man.

  • I love Orange, I want a Thunderverb 200, but... Few things compare to the classic punched-in-the-gut raw 80s power of a JCM 800. The 800 sounds great.

  • Get a ABY switch lol

  • which do u prefer orange or marshall

  • @YourNameHere136

I find that the Orange sounds better recorded, the Marshall sounds awesome live and it is of course a whole lot louder than the TT. The Marshall has some overtones and nuances that are hard to record

  • @BigDaddyDishrags Well of course dumbass, the TT is 15 fucking watts and a JCM is how much? Oh, yeah ONE HUNDRED.

  • I was going for the TT but now im getting a JTM 45 reissue. You cant compromise that marshall growl. Do you think 1464 us dollars is a good price for a jtm with an AX 1960 cab?

  • Comment removed

  • What speakers are in the Orange 4x12 Cab?

  • @qwertyofasdf

    celestion greenbacks G12M

  • wow, the TT doesn't have to be ashamed of the tougher guy (even more so in the moments when treble and upper mids aren't blocked by a pair of legs :)) - especially considering it's price, size, power in comparison to the 800. Too bad the cleans on the TT are amongst the worst i've ever heard from a tube amp (for my taste at least). But the drive is fantastic for such a small fella. Thanks for the great vid!

  • Tiny Terror sounds best!

  • The voicing on the orange is sooo much crunchier.. WAY better

  • there both amazing, but i like the tiny terror beter

  • The Marshall kills that thing.

  • JCM800! NO DOUBT!

  • i bet the orange cab has v30's which makes the comparison useless.

    TT with greenbacks rulez

  • Marshall and Gibson are one only Heart. Now, you must to try with a Fender Stratocaster. That would be great.

    Thank you for the demostration.

  • both sound fantastic

  • jcm800 has the soul

  • oranges the best

  • @keano12 Thanks! I agree they would sound good together panned. The speakers in the marshall are celestion G12M's (greenbacks) and I can't remember the exact settings but usually I have the gain, bass and mid up full and the treble and presence are backed off - the TT has more gain but the 800 has way more headroom.

  • Orange Wins

  • Hello, what is your eq setting on the JCM800?

    Sorry for my bad english.

  • JCM800 sounds better!

  • It's like the difference between the stones and Steve vai in my oppinion (even though Keith uses fender twins and vai uses charvin combos). The Marshall just sounds too bright and jangly too have tone to rival the Orange.

  • I vote for the marshall...

  • to me marshalls sound over trebly and thin. the orange has more body-midrange which is where its at for guitarists i reckon.

still eq can be tinkered with

  • @BRADHblackdragon The Marshall will be much more defined and cut through a band mix much better. Based on the tones in this video I'd pick the Orange for playing by myself but the Marshall for recording or gigging.

  • Try it with these 4x12 cabs vitage 30

  • nice vid thx - the marshall has more depth they both sound good - i have a tt also i'm waiting for a chance to get one of those jcm's or a vintage modern

  • im going to get a stack. now for the head im thinking of a Vox AD100VTH (any other sugestions would be nice), then either a Marshall or an Orange cabinet. what would you recomend.

PS: Ive used the tiny terror and didnt like it =(. im looking for something that does very heavy distortion. but not a randall

  • Yey it all about the pussy juice!

  • @remotecontrol1324

It's more corrosive than you'd think

  • I actually dig the Tiny Terror more. Sounds smoother

  • The review was excellent except for that problem. I have to ask though, does it really sound similar when cranked up? I'd love to purchase an Orange Tiny Terror if it could do a searing lead tone like Glenn Tipton or Matthius Jabs of the late 70's early 80's.

  • you were blocking the speaker!! redo

  • Watch at 9:03 ... The guy's leg was in front of the speakers the entire time, blocking the tone. Excellent observation jryan123, this review she be done over. And possibly through the same cab, different cabs and cab placement to the mic will effect the tone of each amp. REVIEW AGAIN!

  • which speaker are in the Marshall cab? Thanks for info.... :-)

  • @HeikoEwald Celestion G12M

  • Notice the end riff, the OTT speakers become harsher like the JCM800 once he moves away from the speakers. his legs were blocking the tone of the speaker from the video microphone. I say review again! lol

  • @jryan123 At 5:39 too. Right on man, good years you got. The Orange was dudded in this comparo I reckon. Mindy you, they both sound pretty damn good... I'm wondering how the volume levels compare???

  • @shearn666 Well you have to keep the Marshall down low, the TT is 15 watts and is no where near as loud, tried to keep them similar for this vid

  • @JayArpeggios

That's what your gear looks like when it has been on the road for many years getting played through in hundreds of bars, clubs, Hells Angels tent parties and outdoor festivals and was splattered with sweat, piss, blood, whiskey, beer and pussy juice. If had just stayed in Mama's basement or garage making youtube vids and stroking myself my equipment would still be in pristine condition.

  • Comment removed

  • @JayArpeggios shut up u little faggot.. music is all about the beer, whiskey, and pussy juice.. your a fag.

  • @fixxxer602 amg yuur so kool

  • @JayArpeggios hey bro the shits 40 years old! a lot of shit happens in 40 years. I think that trashed look says a lot about where those cabs and there owner have been. its called living... go do some more arpeggios in your moms basement while this guy shreds on stage.

  • Comment removed

  • @JayArpeggios he said the cabs were from 71... i'm no mathmatician but.... and speakers season and the older they get the better. he could sell those beat up cabs for 5000 each. sorry for the insults but i've never been good at comforting the lame..

  • Comment removed

  • @JayArpeggios its not that your that lame, its just that you havent lived long enough to realize the beauty of beat up shit. even though 22 isnt that young... you do realize that your a dino to the high school girls right? and thirty is just around the corner!! by he way... hold on to that gear you have. it does get better, and more valuable with age!

  • @BigDaddyDishrags Hells Angels tent parties, huh? Ever had any scary experiences?

  • @DisasterBlaster500

Here's a story I share periodically. The band was setting up in this bar in Hull, Quebec in 1986. It's 5 in the afternoon and the only 2 people in there are these two large HA bikers, drinking at the bar. Being as it was the 80's our singer was wearing this pastel yellow shirt, and one of the bikers comes up to him and says "I don't like yellow." so he went and changed his shirt. Now whenever someone wears a yellow shirt at work, I always say that.

  • Hey, thanx a lot for this review, seriously. The jcm800 has been my dream for the past ten yrs or so now, but the lack of sufficient money and venue that require 100w of power have kept this beast from my paws. I would have to say that between the two of them, the Marshall is brighter and opens up way more, but again, we're comparing 15w with 100w, that is to be expected. I really think that the Tiny Terror is exactly what I am looking for. Peace.

  • The tiny terror sounded great on the ZZ top's' just got paid'.

  • They're both great amps but not exactly two that you would want to compare. The Orange is completely British-voiced and lower wattage, not to mention that they're running through different cabs.

Yeah, the Marshall does seem to have more of a bite and deeper bass, but the Orange is more responsive to dynamics and has better sustain. That JCM sounds wonderful, but i think the Tiny Terror has a lot of potential for the price and for what it's meant to do.

  • im really interested in getting a tiny terror or some similar orange amp but i have a marshall 1960 cab.

is there any chance you could post a video of the tiny terror through the marchall cab?

seeing as you just hapen to have both lol

    cheers!

  • I won't be spending any time in the garage until it warms up (April/May) as I'm in Canada and it's fucking frigid out there. I would recommend a Dual Terror head, 15 watts is not quite loud enough

  • yeh that was another of my worys because i need it to gig with.

i used one with a 1x12 orange cab in the recording studio when we were recording and it sounded great but i was just wondering how it would sound throught the marshall cab.

haha i would say its prity cold here but i live in england so i bearly know the half of it! if you wouldent mind doing a demo when it gets a bit less arctic out there it would be much apriceated!

im not exactly flush for cash so im not upgrading for a while yet!

  • JCM has more of a bitey top end, tighter bass, and crunchy gain. The Orange has more of a "roar" in the midrange and is a bit darker. But notice, he's using two different cabs... I'm sure he could tweak the Orange to be a little closer to the JCM than that but raising the tone knob a bit. Another point is, its a JCM800 vs an Orange TT... Different sounds, different prices, and different wattage.... For the price and tweaked correctly, the TT is a fine amp

  • The JCM 800 def. sounds better but its not really an apples to apples comparison. The 800 is a higher caliber amp and would never be matched against a tiny terror in a normal amp shootout.

  • This is a great video for those who are debating on what they want. I like the orange, but the marshall has such a cleaner sound and love the bass sound!

  • i prefer the marshall, the orange is too dark and muddy. The marshall just has more character.

  • Orange sounds ok but the JCM wins.
