Brilliant close racing, never knew about it. The monza '71 gp is very well known for its close finish, but that was on a slipstream event so not as special as this one! Amazing....
The most recent win I can remember where 'the driver' won head and shoulders above everyone, regardless what car they were driving was the one at Spain 1996, also in a dog of a Ferrari. (;-)
Few drivers out there who could've done what Gilles did in Jarama, back in 1981. Gordon Murray said that Gilles Jarama win back in 1981 was the finest victory he'd ever seen and still is. We'll never see this type of thing again, as the cars arent 'driver friendly' anymore and too dependant on aerodynamics
English translation: Villeneuve is the driver I respect the most. What's special about him is that he's tough and agressive, but also thoughtfull and responsible. He thinks. Its all part of his competitive spirit. Very few drivers could have won in Spain at the wheel of that car, regardless of horsepower.
the french comment is a litle difficult for me to understand but i could do it a litle bit. gilles was awesome , i think too , more faster than his car , hug from brasil
« Villeneuve est le pilote que je respecte le plus. Ce qu'il a de particulier, c'est qu'il est agressif et dur, mais également sensé et responsable, ce qui ajoute encore à son esprit compétitif. Il réfléchit. Très peu de pilotes auraient pu gagner dans cette Ferrari en Espagne, avec ou sans davantage de puissance »

Not a single mistake by Gilles, under enormous pressure. Hey, and he does not push people aside. He did not need to.....

In my humble opinion, the most remarkable grand prix win ever along with Senna at Donnington Park in 1993. Thank you Gilles.
