  • both parents have a really wild look in their eyes..........

  • I thought they were really going to living in the bush but they have a house.

  • dude has those crazy eyes

  • no man is an island

  • Look at his painting he's working on at 09:23, what a talent he has!

  • The children say they can go whenever they want. But how do they know what are they missing?Making friends, first love, love making, being accepted by others etc.

Human is a social animal.Okey, the parents choose this. But the children after 5 should have been raised in a community and educated like everyone. Later on they can still choose to live with their parents in castaway.

  • Fantastic vid.

  • Well he needed somebody to tell him to brush his teeth

  • I hope the wealthy Grandfather has enough kindness to ensure that both his grandchildren have financial means to attend Uni or some other Educational facility SHOULD the children wish to attend one. Its a given, the children will wander and as NZ is only a small country, at any given time they wont be too far from home, I am also sure they would have a family network (aunt uncles etc) to help keep them safe. These kids will do well in life I am sure. They have been privileged to have lived there

  • sexy girl.

  • Millions of people live like this all over the world. This is only news to white people.

  • Without other people around? They live in communities, not alone.

  • Isolation makes sense for an individual, or maybe even a couple (if they're devoted enough), but not for children. I think it would be paradise for the children if it were a small village.

  • This is an interesting video. I don't see why people are raggin' on what they're missing. Internet isn't a neccesity in life really. It might be convenient but people have lived without the internet in the millenia before now.

  • and as far as i'm concerned this guy IS a success - anyone who measure's success by money is a fool. I too have a university education, in computer science, yet I don't seek employment in this area, and am instead preparing myself for a life in the wilderness. he has good kids, a wife, what more does a man need (other than some good dogs!) the kids aren't missing out on anything at all. that kid can skin possum quick! wow!

  • that report is a real snotty little bit**. always condescending. these ppl are living a far healthier, purer life than that whor*. "what about luxury items for the kids" wtf?!! typical brainless bit** who doesn't know what kids truly need. good on these ppl - i'm doing the same myself here in australia. "modern" western society has lost the plot

  • Awesome

  • TEST

  • aye aye captain, raise the mast n set sail tward the mainland son, its the day yee make yee wenches walk yer plank n soil yer royal oats! only 7 possum skins a piece me matey!!

  • And this was the normal basic life of all Native Americans in the states. Its a simple life, dependent on the land for survival.. but they did have a community to help sustain this way of life. If I could go back to those days of the Lakota Sioux I would truly be happy.

  • robyn didnt even care about university. The reporter asked her, "if there was anything you wanted to do in the primary culture...what would it be." I hate how new twists stuff. and strategically places questions and butchers their film reels. its ridiculous.

  • i believe their christians. i believe the news cameras prevented them from speaking openly about it. and/or edited it out. 9:37 When the mother was speaking of her son, she was speaking of his endeavors for Christ. But quickly digressed toward possum skins. 9:22 look at the fathers ridiculous skill. Conventional learning? All learning and science spawns from observations of the world around you. This family is in a prime position for that.

  • he knows that he is a pilgrim. and foreigner on this earth. That american culture. schooling and government...works toward the undoing of mankinds spirituality. and fellowship with God. You can dismiss a man who never succeeded in the culture as, incapable and ignorant. But explain a man who exceedingly succeeding in every educational and cultural endeavor he pursued. Explanation. God. Take it from a man who knows. This man knows. Turn to Christ.

  • What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul? This man is wise. Its in the habitat he has chosen which breeds true wisdom and thought.

  • This is the life.. I've lived in the most remote parts of the world and I have survival training, but this is fun. not everyone can unplug from civilazation and live in the wild, but once you overcome the disconnect and the upheavel that comes with it; like a drug addict in rehab you'll find a peace that passes all understanding.

  • These kids are definitely connected to the Earth in ways conventional "civilized" people will never know. They seem to be wise beyond their years and extremely well adjusted. While the interviewer seemed to be trying to pull some semblance of unhappiness or loneliness out of them at times, I feel they were fairly content; though the daughter seemed like she would like to get away to further her education. Quite an amazing family!

  • i would love to live like that

  • who cares? he's from New Zealand for cryin out loud.

  • @tejaspics wats wrong with being from nz? jerk!

  • How amazing, to be able to raise your children away from cell phones, internet, t.v. and gun shots... I would do this in an instant. NZ would be the place to do this. And Books? to read books rather than look it up in seconds on the web. I like this.

  • @izzybeangreen Not all guns are bad. They own guns.

  • wow shes so gorgeous :)

  • When you don't earn an "in come" then you don't pay your levy to the masters, being a "tax" which is really another word for "theft" since that is what it is when somebody takes something from you against your wishes, literally eventually at the point of a gun. In doing so, he has instinctively probably done one of the best things he COULD do. He has not supplied the criminal masters of the slave herd with the funds they need for their murderous criminal empire He has helped by not participating

  • I can understand why he would want to live there to a point but the sad thing is he had the chance to get an education and do all sorts of things but his children don't have that chance. What will happen to his kids with out an education or social skills? I think his dad is right, he is only benefiting himself, no one else.

  • @shavaughn1980 R u joking? id rather be taught by those 2 amazingly smart people than the jerks that work in the public schooling system, they both seemed pretty smart and cultured 2 me. id say they have a better chance at a good education where they are, and as for social skills... im sure once they had a taste of how disturbing people are theyd probably regret even leaving.

  • @kevin45271

It certainly would. Get people away from the cause and then all you have to deal with is the effect.

Every day brings me closer to doing this myself.

Not long now, maybe a year or two at most.

    :)

  • His dad is dumb. Mankind is doing well? lol, what a fool.

I wouldn't mind living with that family.

  • He is adorable

  • i wonder what will happen to these kids when the have to confront themselves with real life...a life of deceit, back-stabbing and pressure...i reckon, in the end, these parents have done more harm to these kids than they had imagined...

  • @aucklandcricket

Blimey, it sounds like you've had a rough ride.

  • @asubjectiveopinion sorry,mate... but life´s like living in the outback...if you want to survive, you´ve got to learn survival skills...otherwise, predators will have a go at you!!!...

  • Beautyfull short documentary! Very well made...

  • i don't disagree with robert jr's decision to get away from civilisation, but i think it's rather selfish of him to force this mentality on his children. they are not given chances to experience the world for themselves. what's going to happen when his daughter leaves for university or when his son's going to live out in town? they are not going to adapt well with people because they have had no opportunities to do so growing up.

  • "What was your proudest moment?" ...."I think the proudest moment, if there is such a thing.."

What a lousy father, he should be proud of his son no matter what. What a dick!

  • @WBHkungfu exactly bloody right! shows what a fool the father really is!

  • 2.31,the radio[the outside world]is broken ...and so is he's inner word [the mind]

and the difference is that his mind stop working decades ago

  • no connections to the real world?Really ...soo what the fuck is the camera crew doing there?the answer ,:to connect him to the World

The real world ?what is that? Here in Romania we live like him ,with minimum

of facilities,sooo...what ,real world ...aaaaa the rich world?yea

Sooo he does not identify with the people ,just the rich people

Look he has solar panels ,so ...he has electricity

the atitude of an rebel, not explain the facts

i wonder if he knows how self-centred,he really is

  • how i love all those idiot6s ho have something to say positive about those crazy people

  • It would be nice to live like this. Most of humanity has lost its connection to the earth and their appreciation for life because we no longer live like this.

  • Wish I had the fn balls. I fn hate American society and their bs civilization.

  • Boy to be able to do what you want, and put up your middle finger to "SOCIETY". Because he was sick of people telling him what to do.........TOTAL RESPECT TO YOU AND YOURS SIR.

  • Kinda sad, the kids are missing so many opportunities. Hope they dont grow up to be social morons.

  • @akjunkie You are an idiot.

  • @akjunkie you mean like you?

  • A year back into so-called civilization, they'd want to be back. Hell, I wish I could get away from the psychopathic Americans.

  • then get away from them, the door is open. go and do what this guy does in the woods. don't let the door hit you on the way out.

  • Uhhh! Who cares. If this guy were not white, there would not be a show about a guy with bad teeth in the woods.

  • the most astonishing person i have seeen since Ghandhi a man of passion and intrigue great dedication.....if god will come on earth he'll first come to him

  • I'd like to be out there for (I feel like I need to bbe out there) for some weeks to find myself, find some peace, breathe... so on. But I think then I'd feel the need to turn back.

  • how sad listening to his father talking about broken contracts... his irony, being half patronizing half contempt, so sad!

  • omg their eyes are all so prettty!!!!!!

  • Intriguing, I can relate!

  • its difficult to live like this... but m glad he did what he wanted to...he atleast made a little effort to save his planet

  • this guy has it right, you dont need anything but your the bare essentials and happyness to survive, big respect mate.

  • those people scared me

  • he takes food ,from the state, with the plane

  • Interesting family, they seem like lovely people - but the reporter and style of this documentary was pure cheese, Pretty weak journalism.

Send Louis Theroux out to stay with them... I wanted more depth.

  • @BenjaminNBS cheese! downright condescening bit**! trying to bend the tone of the interview to say they're missing out on stuff and denying their kids 'proper' things. would have been good if done by a decent reporter

  • there are too many fucking people on this earth; this good-looking family has the right idea.

  • Interesting to see so many point out that even though the lifestyle is cool, the kids have (not had) no choice. Why the ambivalence? Kids in cities have no choice either. The "sacrifice" is either worth it, or not worth it. Guess the isolation is the issue here and what complicate things; the kids not having any friends their own age, especially considering their puberty. I agree, I'd want them to at least have the opportunity to enjoy love, sex and friendship. Some of you should join them!

  • @Bysheon they can leave when they're older you know...they're not prisoners

  • I'm from Sweden and don't understand every word. What did the daughter said she wanted for her birthday, a trampoline?

  • yep

  • @Bysheon yes. but the gift she got was had far more love and sentiment in it than a trampoline. a wonderful moment. btw i own a swedish army jacket and use it constantly here in tasmania - really love it! BIG pockets!

  • If you paste this into google maps, you can see where they live: 44° 0'23.00"S 168° 29'6.26"E

  • @planet9 you got pretty close. But you are still wrong. It is next to the Gorge River and Gorge Islands.

  • i can understand the "living in the bush" thing but not giving the kids any education seems a bit insane...it kinda restricts them from having options of thier own

  • I think he has been quite successful.

  • @prettybones8 exactly my thoughts!

  • i think they are lucky and i would live like that if i could..u will not be seeing her missing on the news and dumped some where like trash i think its wrong and a big mess the way we are all living now..they are living a true dream and the way i think god wanted us to..

  • But their eyes! Look at their eyes! They are like zombies

  • @aertin you said it ,brother

i am glad that some one else has seein that

  • @aertin i have to agree - HIS eyes in particular are strange, but the others are ok. at the end of the day, who really gives a damn about their eyes?!

  • This is the life that we all should be living....Stop falling prey to the concrete world of uncivilization!....The modern world is not so civilized when you treat your fellow man like they are less than human based on your own philosophical views of man being and less than self for choosing to live this lifestyle....Man is so greedy!

  • amen

  • Would it be greedy to say, this is how i'd like to live lol

  • @Blackbeltbty1

Says the guy watching movies on youtube.. practice what you preach you hypocrite..

  • @Blackbeltbty1 Agreed. That is why I am a Libertarian. Let live!

  • @Blackbeltbty1 if modern life is so bad, why don't more people choose a less sophisticated lifestyle?

  • @Blackbeltbty1 ... AMEN!

  • @Blackbeltbty1 true!. but that is the essence of our problems.. we are greedy by nature.. .. :(

  • Looks like paradise.

  • 10:47 her eyes r red. does she wanna cry? i wonder why :(

  • @azazel102 maybe she's not getting enough sex?!

  • I spent much of my childhood (5 years) out in the bush with very few people. All I can say is it isnt as bad as people think.

  • Its fine if he and his wife like to live this way, but the children need social skills, I totally understand his emotions about people/world ,I do not relish people/world either, but if he loves his kids he would see through his own selfish need/wants and let his kids live with grandpa for a while to see what its like out there.

  • What a lovely family.

  • I want to go off the grid, but since most Americans are a bunch of whack jobs, I don't feel safe doing it. All i need is some toothless hicks coming around.

    What a lovely girl.

  • Living off the grid will most likely have you around left wing lousy country neighbors who are too drunk/stoned on pot/dope etc.

    Toothless hicks ?

It takes hard continious work to live rat/mouse and garden.

Enemy aliens hate rural folk, but most are really leftist misfist who would never help any one or share labor.

Happy to this family and I hope them happyness

  • @SUPERPHANTAZM ..let me know if you want to team up to go off of the grid. Strength is better in numbers against a bunch of whack jobs.

  • @Calistria520 oooh can i come?? im from new zealand and have hitchhiked most of the country. ive been wanting to do the whole into the wild thing, im so over corperate globalist bastards... but ur right strength in numbers, lol dont think il get any aussies into the idea tho. if ur serious message me :)

  • @julzeerox what do u mean? i'm an aussie and am right into the idea...trying to find like-minded intelligent, skilfull, appreciative, good-humoured non-hippy ppl...do you know of dick pronecke?

  • @Calistria520 i'm interested in finding like-minded ppl (small group) to do this properly...i have *very* extensive survival training and xp, and am currently building some various huts and cabins in tasmania to 'escape'

  • just click on "Rape Club Japan" to the right there and watch the product of modernity.

  • @Nicholasrex86 you saw it too?! what a contrast b/w this vid and the others made by journeymanpictures. and get this, ppl are commenting that THESE parents are being selfish! no wonder the world is going to shit. ppl are truly stupid.

  • With the global economic downturn and the people's greed for fame and money, this FAMILY is lucky, very lucky. I will soon do the same thing-GO BACK to NATURE, free of chemical additives and other poison the new world has created. After all the closer we are to nature, the closer we are to GOD. Living like this will make you APPRECIATE LIFE with closeness to your family.Who needs high tech. gadgets that RUINED relationships anyways?

  • the documentary is objektiv at all

  • I would of wanted to live like that but at the same time not. No proper bathroom clothes or other contact than ur family, but. if ur used to is our lives probably seem abit taking the easy way of life instead of truly living it

  • Come on ,he has solar panels,he didn't rejected

technology ,he just made it more easy for himself,

he rejected society ,and now ,on tv,he boasts hymself that ....how wonder full he and his life style is...bla bla.he's an idiotThe need for social prestige is a numan thing ,and it manifest itself at this guy, just think a bit,he has gone in to the wild at 24 ,not an almost old man ,he needs social status from a society he rejected...stupid ,is he not

  • i don't understand,what is this?

  • This is the life I want. I'll trade them any day.

  • Were is this ,beautiful ,place?

i what to find it on GooGLE EARTH,OK

kIDS NEED OTHER KIDS,TO DEVELOPE PROPELY ,and he has solar panels ,on the roof,

soo... i don't think he is a rebel ,just had a bad ass dad, like in INTO the WILD,MOVIE HE IS A Parasite ,HO LIVES FROM AID ,from the guvernament ,aid that should go to Haiti,no?

Those solar panels ,must be made ,and this thing involves industrys ,the thing he regected

sooo he may be an idiot or an hypocrite, you decide, please don't send me comments

  • @georgel19841 Dude, you seriously need some writing skills. No one will take you seriously if you can't express yourself properly.

  • those ho gaved -1,-s are the sick ones ,

  • too bad, comments you will get!

As a New Zealander who pays their taxes every year, I would be happy to support these people financially. But I very much doubt that they take one cent from our government... they have what they need mostly, and they can sell possum skins at $14 each to buy the few items they need from stores - like the solar panels.

I don't think HE is the idiot...

  • @lskiwi soo you live in a tree?

  • @lskiwi agreed, though i wonder how they might pay for aircraft fuel which is bloody expensive. laughed when the kid said 'if i had matches...' shows they still have alot to learn about survival skills, but typical kids comment!

  • ,please ,everyone ,put----,-ses to those say that he is OK

  • I'm sorry, I had to stop right in the middle of that 84 year old fart to say that yeah he's right, he "can't see"...he can't see how much good his son is doing for mankind...it's called inspiration through action. He can't see "that new brand of slavery" completely encapsulating our existence, almost to the point of suffocation...if civilization continues on it's modern path...the entire Westernized world will become emotionless, monotonous robots.

  • They seem to welcome visitors. :)

  • So the solution to fixing the worlds problems is to live in stone age conditions???

  • @frednoname1 yes

  • Standing OVATION !!!!!

    He is ABSOLUTELY right.

No need for money and the enslavement to the World Bank.

We live our pathetic enslaved lives enriching the Banking Elite while these folks are truly free.

  • what awesome children

  • Wow, they're really getting persistent with THESE MOTHERFUCKING GODDAMN STUPID ASS ADVERTISEMENTS!

  • its jerks like u and your silly comments that make people like him wanna liv in places where they dont have 2 deal with people like u

  • 6:12

    Holy shit, he was hot!

  • hmm i don't think that much of isolation is gd for kids. Eventually they'll want to meet other ppl since they barely growing up. Parents already had theirs lifes live to fullest, but why put kids into this?

  • you are right

  • isolated their whole lives but still rocking Converse

  • 1 question how do they pay for everything

  • Possum skins at $14 a time... and sadly our bush is swarming with these destructive imports from Australai. So they're also doing the rest of New Zealand a favor in trapping these...

  • @lskiwi ease up! we have to put up with your so-called 'fruit' - i'd rather a possum anyday than those little green snotballs!

  • what a fool his father is.hes a fuckwit.he is saving it by not living the white mans way and living the true way of life so in the end he is saving the planet in a way by not adding to the things that are fucking our planet up people go to the land now respest mother nature and the earth by giving back to it. his father is a fool for laughing at his son.

  • @jahjah801

Or he could have used his wealth, influence and intelligence to change things. Not by hiding from the world.

    The father is a waste.

  • I feel sorry for the children.

  • I agree with what this family is doing. Their arent many people like this.

What they mean by helping humanity is the CHOICE they have decided to make.

If everyone made this simple choice, the planet would be under less pressure.

Sure technology is attractive, but the price you pay for it, is the loss of freedom. Instead of operating on animal instincts and your brains chemical reactions, you are on your way to living life with clarity and true freedom. Unreliant on trivial pursuits.

  • ugh they're such inspiration to me.

technology WILL be be our biggest downfall. I can only hope that others start to see this as well.

  • Cut your internet first, then Ipod, Iphone, burn your computer, break the electric lights, torch the car... keep going till there's NOTHING with a chip in it... then call us....

  • Its a beautiful area and they are a beautiful family. They do have all they need there to survive. I hope they are truly happy and that the father will patch things up with his father one day. I also hope the children will be successful and happy in life.

  • RESPECT!

  • what does the father expect the kids will do to satisfy their sexual urges, of course this intellectual man has thought of the inevitable. Lets just hope he reacts the right waY... nonetheless extremely interesting!!

  • that girl is pretty

  • wow, these teens really look intelligent and Im sure they're both going to do so well that other professors and students are going to say "...wtf? where did they come from?"

  • @ 8:40 Way to twist his words. Robert said he primarily chose to live that way b/c it was true to him; whether he's actually impacting the earth significantly isn't the issue, he just does his small part.

She phrased many statements quite condescendingly; I wanted to stuff a sock in her mouth.

Love the closing statements: Robert speaking of his childrens' wisdom surpassing his "they seem to know more about life than I do". It makes me wonder how I'd see reality w/out societal manipulation.

  • That's exactly what i thought

  • Well why dont you try it... You have the power to make that choice and i think the way you would see reality will change for the better, if you let it.

  • So a 2-day walk north means they can see other people, I take it? To me that means they're not all that isolated. To know basic survival skills is cool, nothing wrong with that. But I bet you the kids will eventually want to leave and I frankly, who would blame them?

  • I would have to say, don't know if i could do it, but god bless him and his family. gives a new meaning to the term "green living"

  • i wouldnt say humans were designed to live like this, they're in total isolation the homosapien has long been a very socail being

  • thats what u called free people, no longer slaves to society and the money i love so much

  • All native people throughout the world live close to nature. However they live with other natives and not alone far from social interaction with others. Sex for the boy and girl is something that has to be addressed and the interviewer avoided that major question. The children should not be subject to the so called dreams of the parents.

  • I think that's really cool. Can't say it would be easy by any means(can't imagine eating possum). My children are home-schooled and you always have people talking about "socialization". Don't know if I could just pick up and move to the mountains. Anyway. Great Documentary

  • Ah..the bush...I remember what it was like being out in the bush. Actually loved it growing up out there. But the kids will be fine. They will adapt and get what they want from society. Yes a plane flies in perishables, yes the clothing are hand me downs or purchased but for them it's a luxury. If they chose to, they could live without the stuff brought in from outside. Trouble about people living in gilded cages is that wants become needs and we "simply cannot live without it all.

  • Very true about wants becoming needs. It's crazy how we have become a society of material things. I'm speaking as an American but I'm sure it can be seen in other countries too.

  • i agree with you there, the best times of my life was growing up in the forest.

Yes they will be fine. By far.

  • Did he get hit in the head?

  • ha - surprised to see this place again on youtube. Its a good spot except for the flys.

  • lol gud question

  • guess you wanna watch huh? why don't you travel there and find out?

  • its really hard to live alone.this boy & girls need company.they are learning every thing from his parents, in diffarant way.

  • It just seems sad to subject the kids to the isolation of the lifestyle. Afterall, the parents have lived their lives but the kids were thrown into it.

  • It's green living until they say "we have an aeroplane come once a month" to bring food.

  • I think they are fab and to do what they are doing is in someway helping or earth. I would consider doing it if i was 10 years younger. very good film. i wish them all the luck.
