  • the old dr_5 is better than that .... BOo BOo!!!

  • This must be when it first came out because there is NO LIGHT for the screen! You really cant see what your doing. Because mine has a very bright light to light up the screen. Most likely a lot of complaints.

  • Great video....not impressed with the 880.......still shopping

  • It's just a DR-670 with some extra bullshit you don't really need.

  • why are they soooo ugly looking???

  • 'again, sometimes doesn't quite do what you want it to do' ??? fuck that, i'll but something else then.

  • @PineHills518 hell yeah Akai is better. I had this machine take my word 4 it, it sucks ass. don't waste ur money.

  • are these good.??....akais are better right?

  • I HATE this machine. Most annoying is that you cannot set the patterns to play without a MASTER tempo, so if you want to change from one pattern to another in the middle of a song, it will only work if the pattern you are changing to has the same tempo. Manual says you can use the loop button in SONG mode and that you can write it to remember that loop, but it does not work. Also hate that you cannot dial in a tempo or pattern with a keypad and have to use a knob. Not quick enough on a gig.

  • this didn't teach me shit

  • Does this have like a heavy metal type drum setting by any chance

  • Hi, how do you program the bass notes to be what you want? For example I play a G and it plays whatever I want?

  • @ViolationFixation there is a function that lets you assign any pitch to any key , instrument

  • @Zaidmolina how do you do it though?

  • @ViolationFixation , select the bank A or B .. i use bank A only for the drum category instruments and bank B for the bass .. i assign the bass to every pad from 1 to 16 on the bank B a using the "PAD" function i browse for "pitch" then i set it from 1 to 16 .. per say if am playing my guitar in D then pad 1 is assigned the note that would correspond to the sixth string on the guitar .. ( it is displayed as a +/ - numeric value not the actual note or letter )

  • @ViolationFixation . ( it is displayed as a +/ - numeric value not the actual note or letter ) and after that i just go -100's ( in the numeric value -100's or + 100's equals one full note or key change

  • can you tune the drums and set the decay and stuff like that

  • no thanks

  • No post recording quantize on this machine.

  • No offense to the dude doing the demo, but there is no wonder he's having trouble with the machine, he is just "fingering" the damn thing to death...take it easy man, mine works fine when you hit the correct key at the correct time. Yes, you are going to have trouble when you just randomly start hitting keys...It's a computer, duh!

  • Sounds like Crash Bandicoot.

  • @andy92811 lol no

  • hi.. im not speak english good, so i would like to know, how to make my own rythms... and record it... i appreciate your answer in spanish

  • back when makin a beat actually required a lil bit of skill...

  • @sazkwatch which it seems whomever is demonstrating this doesn't seem to have.

  • what, no bass??? please.....I'll rather mess with the TR-808 or the Slim Phatty!

  • Free hint: Read (and understand) the instruction manual before posting a video where you're fumbling around trying to make the machine do what you want.

  • Looks like you don't know what you're doing, not that the machine is faulty.

  • it's not JUST a drum machine. You should have showed us the other functions as well.

  • "Sometimes it doesn't do what you want it to" Yeah, that pretty much sums up the DR-880, except I'd make that "most of the time". Worst user interface I've ever used. You're constantly having to hit extra buttons to do stuff taken for granted with earlier Boss drum machines. No numeric keypad...oh, and do you enjoy waiting for progress bars like with a computer? Change a simple setting...WRITING......WRITING...WRITING....like you're copying megabytes of data or something. Ridiculous.

  • How much is this drum machine?

  • @ladylovelipgloss usually around 350

  • When I was looking for drum machines over a year ago @ GC.One of the drum machines I played around with was the Boss DR-880.There was an Alesis, forgot the exact model. Then there was the Akai XR-20.I picked the XR-20,glad I did.It has more options than the DR-880.Seems easier to use too.Overall it just sounds better.

  • oh yeah

  • i have this and like it and this video kills the quality it has. you have to dig deep in the settings for the sounds you want. no the basic stuff that he played.

  • Its a machine. Why should it do what you want it to do?

  • can you load up sounds to this? is it portable?

  • how do you like the little brother to this, the dr 770? I want a drum machine and not software...or would you recommend software?

  • this machine seems to suck bad, I actually really like the xr 20 akai machine, or just go software with a controller.

  • nooby question, but can you record your own beats onto a memory card of somesort?

  • Could you program this Drum machine on a song type? like Intro-verse-break-verse2-chorus-fill-end etc.....

  • Yes, cause if you couldn't, it'd be a completely useless machine.

  • This is a MPC knockoff...... MPC: pads , rec func. DR-880: pads , rec func.

  • In a sense, its kinda reassuring drum machines still sound completely wooden, devoid of expression and generally crap, even with all the technology now available. Certainly want one of these though gotta be the best of the crop, even if japs are obsessed with making all their music equipment sound like the 1980's

  • ur video sux i cant figure out how to do it i keep exiting and it wont start to record im gonna try and fin d a better video

  • i like my DR but this video makes it seem like its faulty or sum ish

  • just buy an APC. this is throwing your money away. I'm just saying, find like 3 or 4 good torrents, and you'll have more drums samples than in like every Boss drum machine put together. Stupid.

  • Sweet! I just bought this along with a Boss Digital Studio!

  • I've had some damn good fun with this unit after syncing it up my studio. This video doesn't do it justice, but awsome sounding via Genelic monitors. Good for Electronica, so I'm happy. I finally ditched computer music for Harware, although more expensive, It has been more technnically rewarding, being 'hand on' again is just the bizz. The DR 880 now sits along side my Rolands XV 5080 wt dance extreme, Fantom, JX 8P, SH-101 Kurzweils / Korg Triton Extreme & microkorg. Ah the joy! ...

  • haha this is a piece of shit. garage band has better kits. Fucking Garage Band

  • THIS!! is the one that sucks most.

  • luckylukhasj you say it suck cause you are too fucking stupid to read the manual.

  • man... And yes I even prefer the 808/909 over this bossanova crackassed little music hating outdated sample using cheap interface utilising futile attempt of revenge on the market kinda hoaks!

  • lucky firstly even though you made an ignorant comment, I didn't give you a thumbs down, and the fact that you gave me a thumbs down shows it's you who has some kind of mental problem. I mean can't you read a fucking manual? Do you ever read a manual. Btw, I can tell that by saying the things you have, you can't write songs. You are just untalented and you don't know how to write songs and you are looking for a machine that requires no talent and no skills. Its you thats wrong, not the machine

  • У него ведь даже слуха нет, а он тут хочет то-то ещё там показать, ещё ритм какой-то тупой получился

  • this guy blows

  • Who buys this shit anymore?

  • idk lol....a big drum machine for some damn drums lol.....their free all over the net

  • don't talk. just make beats

  • i do it much better

  • hes a stupid shit

  • Man, if I were interested in buying this machine based on his demo, I would move on. Fortunately I have purchased one and am learning each day. This machine is AWESOME!

  • I can say the same. This dude has NO idea what he's doing. C'mon Gearwire, at least grab someone with expertise to represent this fine piece of machinery

  • This guy doesn't know what he's doing. I've had this machine for years and it still runs flawlessly. I've never had a problem. Great piece of equipment.

  • Check out aretz28's amature demo. Gives ya a better idea.

  • Don't go by this review. He doesn't really know what he's doing. It's not "finicky." When go to erase, stop.... and a lot of other things, you have to hold the button longer than 1/4 of a second. :) He's just in a hurry, that's all. This thing can do just about anything you want. Check out the Boss website. It's very versatile. Do it right and it sounds very convincing. If I saw this video first..... I wouldn't want it either.

  • Does this work with great quality while recording in a studio?

  • It might not be the style of music you're looking for, but the new music by the band Sikfuk uses one of these and it sounds great. And I'm assuming that if one setting sounds good in the studio they all will.

  • Great machine, much better assortment of drum sounds than my DR770. my only complaint is setting the velocity. You should be able to set it to where just touching the pad give the full sound. Even at the most sensitive setting you really have to hit it.

  • "sometimes it'll be finnicky like this you'll see i'm having problems right now"

"doesn't do quite what you want it to do"

wouldn't mind hearing more reviews as honest as this one from this channel lol, that's all i needed to know about this thing

  • Just read the manual. I've had Booss Drum Machines for years. Trust me, they're good!

  • no thank-you, after all.

  • can you pretty much create a song with fills and pattern changes and then save it

  • I was not impressed to say the least!

  • bad demo

  • how does the sound work do you plug it in to an amp or what??

  • After viewing this overview I decided not to buy one!

  • dosnt look so good lol

  • Was thinking about getting one of these for my home studio. I think this video has talked me out of that :-)

  • David Wills DVD Users Manual does a good job of showing how useful this machine is.

  • sakın fişi takılıyken manyetik alanda tutmayın yazdığınız tüm ritmler siliniyor, fabrika ayarlarına dönüyor.. bu aleti Türkiye de ilk alan kullananlardan biriyim.

  • This is most difficult way to make a beat.I use step by step recording.Your way for record is 10 times longer than mine !

  • Ummm... Well then, instead of just saying you have an easier way...why not post it?...

  • "Real time" write is for people with a sense of rhythm. "Step write" is simply another option.

  • im confused. don't they have power supplies. My Dr-880 does.

  • yes, they do. I should have show that.

  • I used to make hits with the DR-660! Now the battery is dead. I'll never buy another BOSS drum...even though I loved my DR-660.

  • Why won't you buy another if you liked it?

  • you can buy a Boss dr-670 for $150 on ebay.

  • The DR660 is an old unit. Maybe that's why it died on you??
