  • simple good

  • hogan and nicklaus had very fine control of the ball.Tiger just grips it and rips it without a clue where it's going. It didn't matter though because tiger ushered in the era of the power game.I just hope he snaps his knee and we never hear from him again.

  • @rw5791 That's how he's won so many majors. You ever see tiger hit a draw? its incredible.

  • @1019079 with huge galleries of knuckleheads like you freezing out the competition, that's how he got 14 majors. But now the folks are rooting for the other players and tiger can't win shit.

  • @rw5791 i never rooted for a tiger. I've always been a phil and jack fan, so i really don't know what the hell you're talking about.

  • @rw5791 you have no idea what you're even talking about....tiger is one of the few people who shapes each and every shot. whereas most pga tour pros almost always play one shot- a right to left, or a left to right

  • @rw5791 tiger woods doesn't shape shit.He has no idea from the tee whether he'll be in the right rough or the left rough.

  • @rw5791 he does shape it. he has 9 different types of shots he can hit. i dont care where the ball ends up - he still shaped the ball

  • @MrRobeezy29 yeah,tiger has 9 types of shots he can hit.......................except straight.

  • its funny cause hogan wasn't a fifth of the player tiger is today, and yet he gets credit like he was the greatest ever. I can't wait for the day when tiger is gone, and everybody finally realizes how lucky they were to live in the same age as the absolute without a doubt greatest golfer of all time. respect it.

  • @mattyco1234 matty oh little matty, you are a bad litttle poser. tiger is done , gone, forgotten, why dont you just start jockin charl now. punky brewster

  • @mattyco1234 You sure do like to ruffle feathers, don't you? If you ever accomplish what Ben did and go beyond it, maybe then your opinion will count. Right now, though, you just sound like a child. Disrespecting greats of the game is a really lame thing to do. You know, it's the guys who play more like Hogan who beat Tiger all day. Guys who hit fairways and greens...which Tiger can't seem to do anymore.

  • I knew Ben Hogan. He was a friend of mine.....and son....

    just kidding......swing looks great.....many similarities.

    Nice Video.

  • hhhhhhh

  • Martinez you are swinging well however the reason your swing does'nt have the overall Hogan look is due to too much effort being focused on the upper body.Your focus has enabled you to drop and attack the ball shallow, this is good. However Hogans drop is controlled by his lower body this gave him his tremendous power and balanced control.Your swing does not have the strength in the lower body to control your right leg half way down, the pressures are wrong. It has to come from the leftside.

  • @AlexCzervic

Nothing can spoil my journey....but thanks for caring. I'll take my 'sight' over anyone else's I have seen to this point. :)

  • great video and work to get your swing so welled groove.I have been doing some Hogan work, what would you say your key changes were?

    Thanks

  • Check out my clinic videos on here to get a general idea of what I work on. Cheers.

  • perfect on plane if you draw line of club all the way up the club shaft stays on that line just like hogan. well plus all the other hogan info like transition from top. GREAT JOB one day i might post my video.... peace

  • ancient Korean proverb, "empty can makes most noise". after spending a couple days with Martin, I assure you he never hangs back. I can only imagine the bitching you do on Woods, Nicklaus, and Hogans swing

  • Its called impulsion...like a beach volleyball player thrusting upward to block a shot. Your left knee will begin straightening through the ball helping the hips and upper body continue its rotation without hanging back. Once you can get the backswing in order this can all take care of itself and the only thing you will need to resist (in terms of feel) is hanging back. Get the sense of moving toward the target or getting right on top of the ball at impact rather than trying to stay behind it.

  • I appreciate that your comments must have taken you some time to put down there. The problem is most of your analysis seems to assume quite a lot wrt camera angle. That tree for example is not a real good reference point for my backside. Nor is my shoulder plane..... with the camera directly behind the ball like this going to remain constant, to be fair since I shot this vid I have been working on keeping my upper spine out more......but I certainly don't want more hip 'turn'.

  • I'm assuming you're a golf professional (maybe a teaching professional). I don't mean to come across as presumptuous however I think we'll end up agreeing to disagree.

I don't know why you would think anything in the background could not serve as a reference as long as the camera is stationary on a tripod regardless of where the camera is placed.

  • I put my work up here by choice so scrutiny is fair enough. But to say that I should have a certain part of my anatomy hold a reference point in the background requires you to know the location of the camera relative to me and my target. If I held that tree with my right hip or backside I would not be moving my weight forward. Take a look at the tree in the background in a similar position to Mr. Hogan. My point being you can use it as a reference if you like to come to a conclusion for you.

  • I don't want to seem like I'm disagreeing with you for the sake of it.....I do 'try' and I also teach my students to get on top of the ball and forward, so in that sense, let me say I think you know what you're talking about, and my disagreement has more to do with the assumptions made as opposed to what you see 'overall'. Cheers.

  • Basically check your shoulder plane halfway back and then at top. They should be similar and certainly not flatter. Don't let your knees and pelvis get closer to the ball (ever!!). Keep your right glute glued to that tree. This will increase your hip turn and help you maintain a better posture. The deeper look and feel in Hogan's hips that you mention is what you should be trying to do. On the way through the ball the feeling will be somewhat like popping up. Like Hogan, like Tiger...

  • Sub-conscious corrections (hanging back)occur through the impact zone because you are a good player. This will always cause problems under pressure. If you didn't make this correction you'd pull everything. The second half of the backswing is where you need to begin working. I hate to teach feel because I may not feel it the same way you do however you may want to feel as if the upper body is moving downward during second half of the backswing.

  • @hogansking He would pull everything but he ain't the only guy who adds tilt in the downswing...if you want him to do nothing but take that move OUT you are talking silly if you ask me.

  • Check your shoulder plane when shaft is parallel to ground in takeaway and then check it at top. Much flatter at top. Why? Halfway back your lower spine (hips)stopped turning. Look at how your knees and pelvis (your right glute moves off that little tree in the background) move closer to the ball as you finish your backswing. The upper spine then lifts a little causing a shallow shoulder plane and a change in posture.

  • You definitely have stability issues in your backswing causing posture changes. This of course causes you to hang back through the ball in order to square it up. This move puts the clubhead's final approach to the ball too far from the inside. As a result your arms aren't in sequence with your body rotation through the ball. Plainly visible as you are not on plane post impact. When you're off you no doubt fight a block and curvature to the left...at least under pressure.

  • See this is where you lost me LOL....stability issues? Really?

  • I may well be out of position in this swing I grant that, but I am very stable......there are a lot of forces to contend with in a swing and I don't see any part of this swing that I haven't dealt with those forces.

  • @hogansking He ain't the only good player with those misses...

  • You have a good swing and obviously are a good player. For increased control you know you have to take your hands out of the swing which you are not doing in a consistent manner.

  • Hogan turns in deeper with his right hip and more aggressive in the hitting area. He had some wicked core rotation. The closed stance helps with the deep turn and with the core rotation.

  • Juansky, I agree he is more aggressive in his rotation...but I believe it's more 'above' the stable core....my hips rotate....his seem to shift more in and out which is the deeper look you rightly see. Watch it again and see if you think the same. In other words his hips stay pretty stable over his legs....it's the torso as a whole that rotates aggressively.

  • Great stuff. I note only one difference: at impact Mr. Hogan's right elbow still appears "locked" to his right hip (perhaps a way of making the downswing path identical every time). Yours has some space going into and through impact. Is this something you've considered?

  • Yes, there is a difference in that area. I would look at it as his body is in position to allow that to happen as opposed to he was moving his arm closer to his body. My body is still 'backing up' so the arms must flee the body.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @martinez19696... you'll hit the occasional wild hook with your move. Hogan might have hit one at this stage in his development if he had eaten a bad egg salad... maybe. Or if he had wanted to hit one.

  • I'd rather you didn't take my footage and put it into this... particularly using the frame you did previewing it...

  • 'Im curious jp, I see you uploaded this video some 7 months ago. I first saw this footage at least 10 years ago, so whom did you take this from?

  • @arniepga,

Where did you see this footage of Hogan in all gray?

I've asked jp but he doesn't answer.

    Thanks!

  • the first time was in Florida I believe it may have been at McClean's studio. I then say this and some other cool clips when I was in Dallas, and one of the members had an awesome collection of footage

  • NICE MOVE...

  • I'd venture that your left hip action may be faster than his but his right side has moved further through at impact.

  • I would say the reason for the right leg differential is that my left leg is still more in the way.

  • I see, I noticed the timing of the right shoulder passing under the chin. What you're working on will make more of a difference. Right now, I can only see a marginal possibility that an attempted fade won't fade. I'd really like to see your trajectory, does the ball level off some at its peak or is the parabola steeper?

  • I hit a lot of different flights and while I do work the ball side to side, with the modern ball you are pretty limited in what you can do.

Recently my irons have been running out of spin and dropping very softly, almost straight down. If I hit a knockdown it tends to be hitting the green spinning still.

  • Glad you made this one, a touch more to go on it. Has your pinseeking maintained? Typically there is a backslide, not to worry though there is more growth to come.

  • Mr.Hogan would be proud..The only thing I see different is how Hogan controls the flail at the end :)

  • The more I watch the Hogan footage, the more I see him "skipping rocks" like he says in his book. Very right side dominated there IMO.

  • Hogan's image was an infielder throwing to first base. "Skipping rocks" was I think a saying by Sam Snead.

  • Wow..Looks like a powerfade to me

  • Classic in all respects Ben, Martin and MJ "Ben the two of us need look no more We both found what we were looking for" Your Bow to Crossbow validation stamp in the mail.....thanks you and play well!!!!!!

  • Cheers Junior...hows the game coming along?

  • You could drive a truck between that right arm and right hip.

Funny how that is............. Very, very nice Martin.
