  • I'm so jelly

  • Actually Cenk forgot the biggest problem with California's direct democracy.

The idea is actually decent, but the it is abused by special interests all the time. Money is still speech, and it is easy to pay for signatures. In the end real problem with California is actually corruption undermining actual democracy that is suppose to be for the people, not corporations and businesses.

  • damn this highschool looks about a hundred times better than the college i go to ;C

  • The kids will still graduate with retard level performance.

  • 578 million daughters?

  • i hate how the girl always agrees with that guy in every video clip.

  • That shits gonna get tagged

  • you think the la school system is broke try the ohio school system only cetral ohio schools have good funding

  • I would love to known what neighborhoods are in that school district. Actually my first bet was that it was with the homes of the super rich, but they send their kids to private school.

  • That school is way nicer than the private school I go to now.

  • "I look at the classrooms, and they're state of the art, and it's what children should have."

What about high quality education material? Great teachers? Improved educational equality and more future opportunities?

  • damn i wish i was in that school

  • @muntasir20 so does the teachers that was fired

  • @longfootbuddy rob people? you sir are a moron, I'm not surprised that people marked your comment as spam, rob people? So I guess you would feel more comfortable if 95% of society would be uneducated and robbed your house. I guess you want increased crime on our streets, again, you sir are a moron.

  • @DJBuckCallYo you sir, are the moron, obviously...a total dipshit...sir...the reason my comment is marked as spam, is because people like you will stoop to any level to further your agenda...you want to shut up anyone that speaks the truth

  • @longfootbuddy hahahaha you speak the truth? Right, perhaps because people like you are a bunch of psychotic ingrates that are incapable of processing proper human logic.

  • @longfootbuddy So, how did you get through school?

  • sheeeeeeeee bad olanbooooo

  • I do not know Cenk, I like voting on the props. I think it is nice that us citizens get a voice.

  • My friend goes to this school and everyone there smokes and do drugs. Is a waste of Money to build this school for people that takes it for granted.

  • @BobTheChosenOne Following your logic, no school would be built for young kids. Kids, generally speaking, do not appreciate the schools they attend.

  • this is ridiculous.

  • Kids in Africa manage to get educations and even go onto University in more stable countries. Is all this really needed to educate people?

  • Kids don't need this shit.

How about investing in things actually relevant to fostering learning and growth?

  • holy SIHT i wanna go to this skool

  • no wonder why the SF mayor thinks he is god, and has more power there then any other mayor in any other city.

  • so thats why califonia is in trouble, why they are broke and losing companies, why that gorvernor election in 2004 was so crazy, and btw the govornator didn't fix the things he said he would and was awful susprise susprise, and why in 2010 it looks like whats her name is just gonna come in and buy the governorship. Jeez Califonia is messed up like Switzland is kinda... too bad I like Califonia, I'm just gald Canada and Australia have better goverments.

  • kids are gonna trash that school. It'd be one thing if this was a college but is a high school. there is gonna be trash and grafitti all over the place. The theater is cool though. Every section will probably appreciate their own facilities but theres no way the school can stay that nice.

  • if your not enrolled in lausd, or at least from l.a. let alone california. your opinion is based solely on speculation and word of mouth making it invalid and useless. im 17 in lausd, WE want it we dont care what you want. our schools are falling apart now that they are building an expensive state of the art LEARNING INSTITUTION and you people are mad? im happy that my little brother will actually be able to go to a decent school thats bound to become a los angeles landmark and asset to the city

  • @LesediLoFi your poor spelling, grammar, and punctuation are fine examples of why this is a great waste of money.

  • @LesediLoFi You know nothing of state of the art learning institutions. Your own education is severely lacking. I hope your brother eclipses you; wouldn't be difficult.

  • @Aphradonis ??? typos's happen, and my education is not lacking im in my senior year with all my credits. if your not from cali you do not have an opinion.

  • @LesediLoFi Being a senior with all your credits doesn't make one intelligent. Graduating from high school as valedictorian doesn't make one intelligent. The modern education system is a machine, and to pass through it is to be simply a cog. True intelligence is something you probably don't even realize exists.

  • @Aphradonis Oh ok, so in other words your sole purpose in life is to tell high school kids commenting on videos pertaining to highschool that, they are un-intelligent and unable to even fathom true intellect? you really have said very little about the actual subject, " awesome school in L.A.".

  • @LesediLoFi You continue to prove your lack of true intelligence by assuming that because I've made a few comments calling you unintelligent, that's my "sole purpose in life." But here's what I have to say about the school: It's an extravagant expense likely to be wasted on the uncultured, unappreciative underclass. That is all.

  • Christ thats higher than the education budget for the whole of Wales (a country in the UK)

  • Cenk is very right about this! Damn lots of fucken money going to shit thats not even needed. Its possible it couldve been made into a College better.

  • could they spend it anywhere else?

  • Does it ever seem like the government there is much like some laughable dictatorship that flaunt its ability to make grand structures and quirky celebrity buildings?

  • face palm

  • I believe that better education comes from QUALIFIED teachers. Not expensive seats and carpeting. This might make some people upset. But.... many education majors are not qualified enough to teach certain grades. Many of my friends are education majors and grads and my husband and I do not fully trust those friends of ours to teach our kids. We need to hire more subject specific grads and pay more. An Ed. major can't lay a finger on a Math, biology or physics major. Subject that truley matter.

  • The Architects were told they had a blank check and went insane. No one with anything regarding form vs function had a voice. Spend a 1/4 of this in the school and the rest of the money on pay for performance packages for this school system. People have no clue...get the pay package for teachers like the pay packages for bankers..and our nation will be able to shine once again academically in the next 5-10 yrs.

  • you don't need an amazing looking school to learn

    you just need good teachers

570 million gets lots of good teachers right?

  • That's what I'm talking about. This should be in every school. Also this should be the type of house people should build.

  • Wow a great school, but 1. they use the money for the wrong things and 2. just one school gets that much money? How many other schools desperately need just a small amount of all this money for much more useful stuff?

  • Congrads on your 7000'nd video!

  • First overpaid sheriffs and now overpaid school...GOD BLESS CALIFORNIA! HOME OF THE SHIT-HOLE!

  • And chances are many kills we behave bad, a terrible idea, many won't even want to go to school, it's a fact.

  • what the fuck???????!!!!1

  • Its not broken IF ITS SERVING ITS REAL PURPOSE.......... that of course being indoctrination and not education. Its designed to create more food for the machine... make the kids into; Robotic workers, common soldiers, or criminals (in which case they help to feed the prison industrial complex).

So its not broken Cenk, its doing what its meant to do.

  • Only in America, would people complain about spending "too much" on public education, instead of on an already obesely-bloated military.

  • such a waste of money.

  • @hughster41

    right back at ya asshole

  • psshhh those kids are going to fuck that school up sooooo bad.

  • My public school in Kelowna, BC, Canada is worth about $30,000,000. Its pretty state of the art with plasma tv's in everyroom, crazy wood shop, black box theatre, amazing architecture (just a beautiful building) they got a great field and lots of great equipment. Now imagine a $528,000,000 building, unnecessary for suck anexpensive school.

  • @jaspreetsekhon

Don't tell me that you were idiotic enough to just give out the name of not only your town, but also your high-school, to a complete stranger on the internet, that you'd just met a minute ago, and make that knowlege also available to millions of other users.

  • @hughster41

I live in Canada now, I was born in Michegan but found better work and was able to marry the man I loved up here in 2004 long before gay marriage was possible in my own country, you moron!

  • @Scarpsad ur gay?

  • @darkness5060

    and proud of it

  • @hughster41

and everything was fine till the Republicans came into power 10 years ago, and had the majority of power, collapsing the economy, ergo you're argument is false.

  • @Scarpsad

Actually Bill Clinton created a boom, Bush was responsible for the bust but didnt let it happen, pushing the recession off to a later date.

Dems are just as responsible for the economic collapse, especially when you consider the fact Obama is now doing EXACTLY what Bush did to cause the current crisis.

  • @treysparker

I don't agree that the Dems are just as responsible, but I do see the point you are making, and I too am dissapointed with the Obama administration almost as much as I was dissapointed with the Star Wars Prequels.

  • @hughster41

I thought Schwartzenegger was the head of the Government of California?

  • Riders need to be removed... that or stop the bullshit of "you must say yes to EVERY piece of bullshit in a bill" . I'm sorry, but that's one of the very reasons why shit like this happens and why the politicians are so corrupt - riders give then more power t o politicians than they are honest enough to handle!

  • Well, we know only rich kids will attend this school. All middle class or lower kids would never have a chance to have such an ... extravagant education experience. Maybe spend however many millions the school costs to help afford books, teachers, get rid of pests (cockroaches, rats) and fund more nutritional foods for children...

My bet is this school closes within 5 years.

  • It's hard to believe that California can be is such bad shape with thier history of Govenors. The main problem in California is that there is no true form of government just a hodgepodge of props on what would you like to do today I know lets have a vote on it. With no money long term planning just becomes more and more important.

  • I like what drinkingwithbob said about this mindless school build. It redefines frivolous spending where dollars could of been put to more relevant use.

  • Waste of money for luxury looks, sacrificing teachers and cutting school programs. PERIOD!!

  • Man I wish that was my high school! Your right it should of been a University with top notch students.

  • The California system, especially the 2/3 vote, is DEFINITELY broken, but I think that the school looks a bit too extravagant. Waste of taxpayer money.

  • It's obvious that this school is going to be monoethnic.

  • @mikedamat Yeah most students will NOT be from South Central or East LA.

  • lol @ american historic integrity :D 1968... *rofl*

  • I have mixed feelings about this, really. While I do think that more money needs to be spent on public education, this is kind of a bad time. A ton of people will totally take this the wrong way.

As for architecture, I also think that an engaging learning environment can certainly effect the way a kid learns. I know that a better working environment really helps me out, I don't know about everyone else.

  • Bravo!! I loved the school, all schools should be like this one. Perfect.

  • Wouldn't all the fancy decor and architecture distract the kids even more from learning?

  • who gives a shit about stuff like this. Just get more teachers and better material.

  • All public schools should be like that one, sad that only 1 school get this kind of treatment while teachers and public schools everywhere else are underfunded.

  • lemme guess. this is ok

  • *Facepalm* IMPOVE EDUCATION not improve buildings.

  • man just fucking kill americans and save the countless lives -__- Britain FTW

  • Add some Dorms, make it a quasi private college, use the money to help fund the education system.

  • when we talka bout making education better, we're not talking about buying fancy buildings, we're talking about helping the children's educational development.

It's like a vicious circle, now they're too stupid to know how to improve education.

  • Okay, instead of having super fancy architecture, couldn't they have worked actually improving the education aspect??? I mean, seriously, when we talk about spending more money on education, we are talking about educating kids better, not making super fancy buildings for the schools they will be educated in.

  • @annpetasupporter

I mean, they are using gold leaf for a mural for god's sake. How the hell is that helping educate kids??? Whoever is making the decisions about this needs to be fired. That money used for gold leaf on that mural could be put to good use to help fix up other schools (that probably desperately need it) and to hire more and better teachers like they pointed out here.

  • Watch most people from this school will be from high class family

  • Back when i went to school there was only 1 computer and 1 gym. there was no cafeteria, you ate in class. This shit is ridiculous, you need 4 walls 1 roof and a shit ton of textbooks.

  • this was all of our tax money to buy a school for some white kids to have a good ass school smh...

  • All schools should be state of the art and first class. If you really want students to succeed you have to show them that they mean something.

  • @WhiteFlowerLei76 but not all schools can afford that, and you dont need state of the art schools, you dont even need rugs, tile floors will do, easier to clean, cheaper to acquire and clean and most importantly, its not a waste of money!

  • @WhiteFlowerLei76

Which would be great if we could afford something like that. The reality is that we can't and that money needs to be better spent and spread around to help other schools and hire more teachers, not for putting gold leaf on murals, etc.

  • wow what a nice library, i bet 98% of students that go to that school never check out a book.

  • wtf is this shit?!

  • soo true!!!! man it always happens this way, The Money is bunched up in one place instead of spread rationally! and if you say that out loud the morons will start yelling communist and continue bunch up the money just to screw with you!

  • Im all for the school its cool. just because all of you guys are from poor shitty ass schools dont hate. Im from seattle and uncle Bill hooks and the impoverished school up all the time lol. move to a city where all the the rich douche-bags give back.

  • That should be a university...and expensive university and not a public school!!!!!!!

  • And watch most of those kids end up as drop outs.

  • I want to punch LA in the face.

  • these kids are lucky as fuck. i went to a school built in 1930. it looked like a prison... a year after i left they tore it down and are rebuilding a nice school, but nothing this nice, i think its a little over the top.

  • A rich school for the rich, and poor schools for the poor ... Very American.

  • @PlayT0E welcome to a glutenous society running on a system of covetous greed and lustful want.

  • @PlayT0E isnt it a public school though?

  • @MirorsAndObfuscation A public school? Sure.

But you don't even have to look up the neighborhood to know this money-pit is in an upper rich area, and not in any danger of having low income students.

  • In other words you REALLY don't like the California system because it allowed people to put a ban on Gay Marriage.

All that aside, this is an extreme waste of money in an already extremely broke state.

  • Να πώς τη μεταφέρει ο γενικός γραμματέας της Εθνικής Ομοσπονδίας

  • So let me get this straight... California is bankrupt. On the verge of being bailed out by the IMF and they spend $500 million on a school?!?!?!?!

  • anyone else fellin ill by this story?

    urp!

  • @TheRay789 Exactly. It isn't the hardware so much as the attitude of the students.

  • i want to go to that school.

  • Why dont they fix up the other schools with all that money!

  • I thought cali was poor as hell, what a bunch of idiots

  • I support the school project.

    -California Citizen near the area.

ps - he bitched about the Californian vote-system, he should come live in California and learn about what he is talking about. Those votes could single-handedly change the lives of millions of people. For example, the proposed vote on whether to re-instate the Los Angeles Subway system. this could save millions of dollars and get cars off the freeways.

I fully support the current system. No non-Californian should have a say.

  • @smartwarlord Uhm, the Young Turks are based in L.A.

  • @smartwarlord

So why are y'all so deep in debt? Will the rest of the country & the world have to give you guys a bail out when you guys default?(and inevitable you will, if Gov Schwarzenegger is hampered in his reform efforts.)

Building that school was irresponsible. There will most likely not be a dedication of consistent funds to keep up with the maintenance & this school will fall apart in no time as per "The Tragedy of the Commons."

Face it: California is a broken political system.

  • @willia3r

With the legalization and taxation of Marijuana by Proposition 19. Our debt will be annihilated.

  • @smartwarlord

And it may forestall any true attempts at changing the system that created this monstrous debt. How would we know if these potential new tax funds will be spent in an appropriate way?

What about the social implications? I just don't want to create a huge generation of drug addicts & burden the social worker system when child-neglect comes into the picture.

I just don't want the legalization of marijuana to be a majic bullet. But nonetheless, I am open to the concept.

  • Maybe they should've built a university instead and have the kids compete for admission?

  • @Vamavid That would have been a better idea. Upkeep would have been top priority since the school would take tuition if it were a college. High Schoolers have a tendency to wreck things...I know! i WAS ONE! LOL!

  • You think senators and other influential people are going to give public schools proper funding when they know their kids will never go there anyway?

As long as we allow private schools, the rich will get a great education while the poor keep being held down.

  • Did anyone else think John Bunnell from World's Wildest Police Videos was the commentator on that video ?

  • It's no wonder how Obama could accumulate a 1.5 TRILLION DOLLAR debt in less than TWO YEARS! This is why it is so important to elect Republicans and fiscal conservatives; whenever Dems drive the economy into the ground with high spending and high taxes, every American suffers.

  • @tehant1liberal That's like saying the victim of a stab wound is responsible for bleeding too much. It's Bush and Cheney that wielded the knife, Obama just received the wound and is now being held responsible for it by conservative bullshit artists like you ;)

  • @tehant1liberal Like those 12m slaves 4m of which died, taken from Africa to save them from their 'heathen ways' and teach them about the lord.

Or what about Pizarro destroying the Incas because Althuapa would not read the bible? Or lets expand that to the general emptying of N. America all justified at the time to people through scripture....

I dunno if you are that badly educated or you're a FUCKING BASKET CASE.

Whatever the case, as usual I will mark your nonsense as spam.

  • @tehant1liberal Is your head up your ass for the warmth?

  • @TheDrpretorious That was today's best comment.

  • @tehant1liberal So, Bush increased the debt by 4 trillion and he didn't have a financial crises to fix. Plus, the debt was worse under Bush Sr. and Reagan than Clinton, so electing Republicans doesn't guarantee anything.

  • more $ does not equal a better education

  • @HeadbangingGlory yes it does.

  • @hollaboutit

    No it doesn't.

Countries like Japan and Australia, when adjusting for population and GDP spend about the same as the lowest spending state like Mississippi for public school per pupil and gets dramatically better results.

It's about cultural dedication, and unfortunately that cultural dedication in the United States has never truly been there, at least not across the ethnic & financial class spectrum anyways...

  • @willia3r so there is no correlation between better funded schools, and the quality of education? i beg to differ. all you have to do is look at the schools with more $, and their success rates. furthermore, you know black get $1000 less per student than whites? you don't think that plays into my argument? have you noticed the difference in education between suburban kids, and urban children? its obvious!

  • @hollaboutit

What about white kids in rural areas? What about white kids who live in the Appalachian region?

This problem I have when this education debate comes up: The perspective is always from the urban/suburban perspective simply because most of the media is concentrated in those areas & most of the intelligentsia who comment on this stuff is there.

There plenty of folks who get a good education on par or better than suburban areas & do not live in areas with high tax-bases.

  • @hollaboutit

That is not to denounce the importance spending money on education as you pointed out. I am simply saying that it is too simplistic to say that money alone is key determinant of whether or not a person receives a high quality education.

  • @hollaboutit

I would also challenge you to study Finland and Japan's education system. They have a cost efficiency on par with many of America's lowest spending per pupil districts and YET have results lightyears greater than our own.

  • @willia3r ok, but you seem to be ignoring that those white children in economically depressed areas are not doing well in school either. those schools in japan and finland do better with less, no question. i used to live in okinawa, and i seen that there was less inequality in regards to that. we have much inequality over here, and we pay for school differently. i would like to know if there is any schools in those countries that have more than the average, based on my theory, they would do

  • @hollaboutit

Schools in Utah and Iowa peform pretty well against the natinal average and they fund less per pupil than a school district like in Atlanta, Georgia. And of course I know that white children in many rural districts especially in the south do not perform well.

I brought up that example to prove the point that looking at public school funding per pupil as a purely black vs.white urban vs. suburban dynamic is way too simplistic.

  • @hollaboutit

Also to add: White children in wealthy districts often have a disproportionate amount of college-educated parents. Parents with that type of education will naturally have better performing children because they take the time to watch their child's progress.

Also, yeah it's nice that these wealthy white districts have shiny baubles like soccer teams, violin clubs, Libraries with big flat screen T.V.'s & Apple computers but are these things REALLY necessary for a good education?

  • @willia3r better with more resources than the average japanese school. but, actually, you don't even have to see it to know that it exist. they do have children that are more affluent, and end up with more. its kind of hard to argue that. just like the white kids in , say, west virginia. we argree that they don't do as well in school as their economically advantaged counterparts. its the money lebowski!

  • @hollaboutit

You can funnel millions upon millions of dollars extra into a poorly performing district & it will still produce a distinct amount of sub par students. The Atlanta School District is proof of that.

What produces quality students is: Parents who take time to make sure their kids learn the material, teachers who have the flexibility to decide what teaching methods are appropriate; school systems that can decide what lessons for children(trade school vs. academics).

  • @hollaboutit

In other words: It's HOW the money is spent, Lebowski!!!

  • @hollaboutit That school is built in compton... 578 million in an area with a 50% drop out rate.... what a waste of money.

  • @thehotshirtguy2008 hey! this conversation was for reasonable folks, not knee jerking idiots. peace.

  • @hollaboutit My school was in the top 1300 in the nation(newsweek). Half our classrooms were falling apart and the other half were portable trailers. We still had about 40 kids per teacher so why do the kids in south central LA need flat screen TV's?

  • @thehotshirtguy2008 let's just make the exception the rule. you're right.

  • @hollaboutit So it was just chance? You're acting like the teachers, students and parents had nothing to do with the results. Education doesn't start with the school, it starts at home. The example I described proves that. There are no exceptions with people. If a public school in Northern CA can have good results on a shoe string budget why shouldn't that be the standard?

  • @hollaboutit

Another problem I often see with these education debates is that too many black folks often focus on the baubles that white suburban districts have rather focus on the real costs of an education & what schools acually NEED.

Yeah it would be nice if the school could afford a field trip every year to Hawaii, but maybe it would be better simply keep the school stocked with up-to-date books & encouraged teachers to think outside the box. Keeping class sizes small helps too.

  • @willia3r you're right, and they don't do that. also, have college educated parents is key. better schools produce that. but, i agree with you for the most part.

  • @hollaboutit

I don't think that the parents need to be college-educated to have great kids per se. They just have to care about their kid's education and make a reasonable effort to show up at PTA meetings and make sure that their kids are doing the work.

  • @willia3r your parents went to college, didn't they? you seem to think that ppl who work like slaves have that ability.

  • @hollaboutit

???? I thought we were having a good conversation. Why would you bring the "slave" innuendo into this? I've know plenty of people who AREN'T working at all & who AREN'T making a basic effort to care for their children...I should know, my dad is one of those people.

My mom didn't go to college, & my previous statement shows my mindset that it doesn't take college educated to have great kids. I hope you are not trying to create a negative tone for the sake of saving your ego.

  • @willia3r ego? what good what that do me, bro? i am having a nice convo with you here. i'm only pointing out that ppl who have to work 2-3 jobs to feed those kids, may not be able to make a pta meeting. they are absolutely relying on the schools. sad but true. and i was giving you credit for your education. i extend friendship to you.

  • @hollaboutit

I never said that attending PTA was mandatory. I only said that a "reasonable" effort should be made, among other factors.

It's always a good idea to peruse comments in their entirety before jumping to conclusions. Many potentially harmful arguments can be avoided that way.

Also, I understand that there are people who work hard who can't spend a lot of time with their kids, just as there are people who choose not to work at all & won't spend ANY time with their kids.

  • @willia3r point noted. i see what you're trying to say. what do you study, btw?

  • @willia3r PTA isn't even necessary, just instill good values in your children.

  • @NeccoWecco

I mentioned 3 factors, and one of whom I qualified with the word "reasonable". Seems like you are disagreeing for disagreement's sake, sir or ma'am.

Situations like that is why it's hard for our country to have a serious conversation on reforming and/or improving our education system.

  • Imagine, a world where people didn't bitch about the expensiveness of proper education.

  • @CapitalistOverlord Come On. We all know they spent way too much on this. Its not about it being expensive, its about what they spent it on. We all know all of that nice stuff they have will be looking like its been there for a decade by the time the school year is done. Harvard doesnt even look that nice. And on top of that they laid off teacher programs to build this. You gotta be crazy to justify this.

  • Give me a break. Who is this building for because like Cenk said it isn't child friendly. The best schools have the best TEACHERS not state of the art flat screens showing the history of a former building. A great teacher can teach in a regular class room with no computer and have at least 85+ percent of their students passing and doing well. A mediocre teacher needs bells and whistles to make it seem like they are doing their jobs.

  • i went to private school my entire life and 95% if the students got into college and all my friends and i have graduated from a 4 year university. I can guarantee you 70% of the students at that school will drop out of school and those 30% left wont even graduate from university and end up at a community college and drop out of that. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY - public school kids are a waste of money and time.

  • @elpicos8091 Not everyone can afford to go to private schools.

  • @elpicos8091 okay smartass do you think in this economy evryone can afford to send their kids to private school?

  • @elpicos8091 the majority of public school student are a waste of money becuase statistcally the kids are getting stupider from the gangbanger peices of shit and other retards ruining almost everything for the kids that have potential, instead of making that school they should of made a labor camp for the idiots who drop out and the idiots who go to juvy, they dont want to learn ect ect, then they can work for below minimun wage for 14 hours a day 6-7 days a week,

  • @minipancho94 Hey don't forget these are kids you are talking about. Don't be so cynical. Try showing them some love and compassion. God knows they need it.

  • @cherrytothecola i have to go to school with hundreds of kids like that, they cuase any potentaily good learning experience to be ruined by their ignorance and idiocy, the only thing that bothers me more is creatonist that constantly throw fits anounceing their beliefs and denieing evolution, (their welcomed to their beliefs as long as they dont try to force them on others) if L.A. wants this school make it an honors/advanced only school to keep the idiots from ruining it.

  • @minipancho94 so true 100% of the people making my orders, washing my cars, cutting my grass are the idiots that dropped out lol; which are going to be 80%+ of the students that are going to attend that school.

  • @minipancho94

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I went to two different high schools. The first one I went to had such a budget shortfall, yet they spent SO much money on the students who we all knew were going to drop out no matter what while cutting out all sorts of AP classes, science lab equipment, basic technology and the arts programs. Of course, they didn't touch the athletic program, because even if all else failed, THAT had to stay. So glad I left and went to another school.

The second school was also a public school. But it was in a commercial district, so we had a lot more money. I was able to take what I wanted. Unfortunately, it was in Texas. It was one of the few school districts in Texas that was really good (because most of the students parents worked for tech corporations located in the area). But the district had to give away its money (under the law) to the failing schools in Texas (of which there are many) and they'll never change. Fail.

  • @elpicos8091 i went to public school. graduated from tx state university with honors. i also received my master's. i'm also black. that knee jerk bullshit is a waste of any reasonable person's time.

    GET OVER YOURSELF.

  • I'm really glad I just graduated from my high school this June. I'm from California and now I know what our state's education budget went to hell.
