  • Loved the interview but man oh man do you need a new camera man!! Either that or he had better learn how to do a zoom at least before he does any more interviews. I used to do a lot of video and I would never put a scenes like some of his (zooms) into a video of mine.

  • Guess what: I first discovered about Gene Autry in the comics about sixty years ago, And I am Brazilian. This is the American power of publicizing.

  • well im good friends with jack allen who was gene body gaurd

  • as a kid I watched Gene Autry a lot. He was my hero.

  • watchin this kinda reminds me of my pap.....im not sure what i'll do when he leaves to go to his place in heaven.......but watchin his makes me want to do more resaerch on Gene even more he seems like a real nice guy

  • If you"re such a Gene Autry fan, you have to know that he was never known as the "King of the Cowboys." That title was given to Roy Rogers in 1943 when Republic released a film with that title. Gene was known as "Public Cowboy No. 1" in the Thirties with a film of the same name. On his radio show, he was "America's Favorite Cowboy." In his Columbia series, his billing was "World's Greatest Cowboy."

  • @TheFrontrowkid haha stick it to 'em =)....wish i had this kinda knowledge cause thats pretty cool to be able to fire bsck with facts .... i truely am in aw (not sarcasticly)

  • did he smoke? just wondering because his cowboy code says that we all must have clean personal habits.

  • @ConfusedSponge No, but he used to enjoy a drink or two when he was on tour. For a detailed look at his personal habits, check his biography, "Gene Autry: Public Cowboy No. 1."

  • @TheFrontrowkid Wow. Kinda rare back in the days for someone who was a non-smoker.

  • God bless Gene, The essence of wonderfull man!!!

  • omg! Ty for this! I'm crying right now!

  • What a wonderful man he was...I was on interstate 5 a couple of months ago and past by the Angels Stadium. I couldn't help be think of him and how the world was a more wonderful place because he had been a part of it. RIP, Mr. Gene.

  • I used to visit Mr. Autry's office often in the late 1980s and early 1990s at KMPC. He was my hero for many reasons. I was visiting Cliffie Stone who managed Gene Autry's music publishing at that time. I have a three or four part interview with Cliffie Stone here at YouTube. Gene Autry had a very fun sense of humor. When he and Cliffie and Pat Buttram got together I wished I had my video camera. Very nice interview.

  • @Featureman KMPC - The home of the California Angels.

  • Good interview, but remember and try not to cut off who your interviewing. I've seen interviews where it seemed that the interview was more about the interviewer and not the person he/she is interviewing.

  • The good lord should let people like Gene Autry live forever and bring his goodwill to everone on earth. I just hope that someday I will meet Gene in Heaven...

  • My name is jessica Autry and my Grandma Helen Autry And my grandpa was Dewayne Autry from Twenty-nine palms,Ca. My grandpa used to tell storys of bar hopping when Gene and him was younger. It is a honor to be apart of Gene's life..Maybe even Family

    not sure tho

  • this was my hero growin up.i helped make his boots at justin boot co. in texas!!

  • my grandpa had almost the same singing voice as Gene autry.........

  • Here, in Palm Springs, CA Gene Autry is highly revered. One of the main streets in the village is named after him, as is the stadium where minor league baseball and the highschool sports are played as well as a new shopping plaza. His home is just around the corner from where I live and is now a 5-star resort hotel.

  • gene autry take a great part in western movie and also in western musics field,he was one of my best singer,i got the pleasure to meet gene autry at the montreal forum around 1953-54, check my youtube posting under the name of texlavallee

  • Graduated college 6 years ago. Own my own home, happily married. I am a hillbilly, you got one correct. My life is fine thanks again for caring. Ive already said Im not stalking you, merely trying to get you to accept that I, just like you are related to Gene. When you get a text, dont you text back? Im just repeating what my granny told me. I cant help but think that you are mistaken. If she cant find William Autry, your family tree must not be very complete.

  • You say "Ah the sad life of a hillbilly"

    Gene was a hillbilly!

  • Gene was Everyman.

The humanity that the Waynes to Eastwoods lack, the geuine response of the spririt.they lack will be seen - by a less hate-trained public.

    An original.

    Often copied and often failed.

A man that followed his own path and thankfully it bore fruit.

    Thanks Will Rogers.

    Thanks Woody Guthrie.

Thanks Gene and the ghosts you represent

    No hate No anger No

  • Thanks for posting this! He was my great great uncle by blood! These other ppl claim it on youtube but i have written documents! I was just at the Machen-Autry family reunion! Ill play this at the next family reunion coming up! Thanks!

  • This man could ride a horse. My mother and I watch him everday. She is 90 years old. What a great man. He was a smart man also...

  • He talks about Christmas songs, but I've never come across a recording of his--and I'm a fan--that was truly religious in nature. His was the commercial, 100%, I think. I'd appreciate anyone's comment.

  • very cool, thanks for sharing this.

  • Great to see, thanks!

  • Thanks for posting the video. What is the date of the interview?

  • not exactly sure...but in the mid 80's

  • @askjimmycarter Had to be 1988 or 1989. Those were the only two times Oakland was in the World Series in the 80's and he refers to it in the piece.

  • @whooven It was in 1989, just before Gene Autry's award from NARAS.

Mr. Autry is the only person to have five stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one each for movies, television, radio, recording/records, and live/theater.

  • Comment removed

  • @whooven my guess is September, 89.

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • I'm a great Gene Autry Fan. I watched his Television Programs on "Encore Westerns" every other day. I like to hear Gene Autry sing "Back in The Saddle Again". Gene Autry had a Famous Horse named "Champion".

  • Gene Autry is my 3rd cousin. Cool guy. Wish I could have met him.

  • Doubt it.

  • My grandparents last name is obviously Autry from Tioga Texas. My mom was born in Tioga. I was born in Texas as well. He used to own the Angels baseball team. Believe it or not, makes me no difference. Are you related?

  • Comment removed

  • Im not quite sure why you are being so snotty. You really shouldnt be such a bitch to your distant relatives. I know other people with the same last name that are not related. Thats why I was asking you if you were related. Im not questioning wether you are or arent. I believe you, not sure why you "doubt it"

  • Gene is my grandfathers first cousin. My grandfathers dad practically raised Gene from about 12 years old since Gene's dad was always gone.

And what about your videos? Sticking your tongue on a straight iron?? D'oh!

  • Comment removed

  • I am certainly not stalking you. And yes I have friends, thanks for caring. I told you the only family history that I can remember hearing from my grandfather William E. Autry and if you dont believe it thats fine. I dont know why you are in such disbelief that someone else in this huge world is related to Gene?

  • Which sister, Veda or Wilma?

  • Veda or Wilma?

  • Comment removed

  • Im not saying any of this in any way to get to know you or to "stalk" you. Lets see you get a text, dont you text back? Duh, come on dont feel so special that someone would stalk you.

  • My father loved Gene Autry!

He met Gene in 1938 when Gene had a concert there in the Princess Theatre in Texarkana. My father was 6 years old then and got to sit on Gene's lap and get an autographed picture of him...My father gave me that picture when I was 12 years old. I got it hanging in my living room...I love Gene's music too. There's no country stars like that anymore.

God bless Gene, Roy, Tex, Ernest, and Hank...

  • I really like your interview with Gene Autry. He was a great actor and singer. Thanks,RiflemanRay

  • thanks a great man!
